FROM MTV MOVIES: Ever since the first caveman hit the second caveman over the head with a Brontosaurus bone, mankind has been fascinated by a fight. Man vs. man, woman vs. woman, whether it's over a spurned lover, stolen property or a simple "yo' mama" joke, few things are more exciting to watch — and once again, the MTV Movie Awards is here to recognize the most memorable brawls and battles of the past year.

Chances are you've never personally witnessed a battle between a demon and a supernatural prince; a pair of impossibly handsome vampires; a caped crusader and an anarchic clown; or two bridezillas brawling in the aisle. OK — if you went to college, you've probably seen three stoners trashing an apartment.

Be sure to head on over to the Best Fight voting page, where all of the above are currently embroiled in the final days of an even greater battle. The winners will take home the big trophy Sunday evening at 9 p.m. ET — but first, at the risk of angering some obviously hot-tempered talents, we handicap the competition.

Halo: UprisingA comic book based on one of the gaming world's most popular franchises, created by one of the comic book world's most popular writer/artist teams, Marvel Comics' "Halo: Uprising" was as near to a perfect crossover project as we tend to get in the comics and gaming scenes.

Next week, the four-issue series by the award-winning team of Marvel Universe architect Brian Michael Bendis and celebrated artist Alex Maleev ("Daredevil") hits shelves in a special hardcover edition that collects all four issues and features a variety of early art and "making of" content. Marvel has provided MTV News with an exclusive preview of some of that content -- including several inked pages showcasing Maleev's much-praised work in bringing Master Chief, The Covenant and Bendis' "Uprising" tale to life. Cowboys and AliensJust last month, Robert Downey Jr. told MTV News that he might not be starring in a feature film version of "Cowboys and Aliens" after all, despite earlier reports. But "Cowboys and Aliens" producers and screenwriters Roberto Orci and Alex Kurtzman haven't given up on getting the actor to star in the adaptation of a Platinum Studios graphic novel.

The pair told SCI FI Wire that they have been speaking with Downey about starring in the movie.

"We've been talking to him about that," Orci said. "He's one of the busiest men on the face of the Earth. If the schedule can line up, we'd absolutely love it." Read More...

Green Lantern: First FlightAs the Green Lantern of Space Sector 2814, Hal Jordan is responsible for the well-being of everybody and everything on Earth. But with a Machiavellian partner like Sinestro showing him the ropes, Hal Jordan's experience in "Green Lantern: First Flight" promises to be a lot more like the Denzel Washington-starring "Training Day" than any DC Comics adventure before it -- according to the film's writer, that is.

"[Warner Bros. Animation] had been going through some ideas for Green Lantern stories and none of them were quite working out," said screenwriter Alan Burnett. "So, I just pitched it to them in one line, 'Have you ever done Green Lantern as Training Day?' with the idea of the Denzel Washington role being Sinestro. They said, 'That sounds pretty good -- start writing.' And that's how it began." Read More...

NorthstarCalifornia's Supreme Court upheld the state's "Proposition 8" ban on same-sex marriage yesterday, fanning the flames of what's sure to be an ongoing debate in the state and the nation as a whole. In light of this event, we've decided to look at some of superheroes who are out, proud and feel no shame in how they live their lives -- and who'd be most affected by legislation like Proposition 8.

NORTHSTAR: Introduced in 1979, Jean-Paul Beaubier was a mutant born with incredible resistance to injury, the ability to manipulate light, and able to fly several times the speed of sound. Originally a terrorist, he realized the error of his ways and became the Canadian superhero Northstar, serving with the teams Alpha Flight and even the X-Men for a while. Read More...

Aliens #1It's a short week here at Splash Page HQ, but it's a big one for comics with ties to Hollywood hitting shelves. That's why we're kicking off a new, weekly feature that spotlights three comics you should add to your pull list if you're looking to stay current with the ever-growing crossover between comic books and the world of television and movies.

Now that you know what the weekly feature is all about, let's get into this week's picks!

TOP OF THE STACK: "ALIENS" #1 (Dark Horse Comics) -- It's hard to believe it's been three full decades since Ridley Scott first scared the bejeezus out of audiences with the movie "Alien," but it's even more hard to believe the success Dark Horse Comics has had with comics based on the sci-fi/horror franchise. Much like video games based on movies, comics based on movie and television properties rarely find an audience -- but Dark Horse's "Aliens" comics have always been the exception to that rule. It's the scene you're talking about when you leave the theater, the scene you're telling everyone about the next day, the scene that compels you to keep asking yourself and others, "What the f---?!?"

Morbius in 'Spider-Man 4'?"Spider-Man 4" director Sam Raimi doesn't seem certain about Kirsten Dunst's return or exactly what's going to be in the script at this point, but the rumor mill continues to churn about the next chapter in Spidey's big-screen franchise. Way back in January, we reported that Raimi had mentioned "The Living Vampire" Morbius as a potential foe for Marvel's wall-crawler, and it looks like the celebrated director still has a soft spot for the bloodsucker.

During a press event for his new film "Drag Me To Hell," Fear.Net asked Raimi about the vampire rumors for the fourth installment of the "Spider-Man" films. The director's response was, well... of the "neither confirm nor deny" variety. Read More...

Spider-ManLast year, Marvel Comics shocked and angered many fans by negating Spider-Man’s marriage to Mary Jane Watson throughout the various Spider-Man titles. And while Marvel’s mainstream comic book titles are standing by the decision, the daily "Spider-Man" newspaper strip has decided to reunite the famous couple.

In the strip published this weekend, Peter Parker woke up in bed to find himself once again living with his loving wife. The past several months of stories where he was inexplicably single again? Just a long, bizarre dream. Read More...

Buffy the Vampire SlayerFROM MOVIES BLOG: With vampire boyfriends on everyone's wish list, it's not surprising that Hollywood looks to reviving one of its legendary slayers. Not that we would mind of course, as who doesn'twant Buffy to return and save us from the undead? The real question is: does anyone want Buffy without her creator, Joss Whedon?

According to The Hollywood Reporter, there are plans to bring Buffy back to the big screen without Whedon's participation. Instead, it will be a relaunch handled by the director of the 1992 film, Fran Rubel Kuzui, and her husband Kaz Kuzui, along with Roy Lee and Doug Davison of Vertigo Entertainment. It would have no connection to Whedon's legendary television series, or to its comic book continuation, but would instead "reboot" the story from the very beginning in order to not upset the series' diehard fans.
