Back in early May, we got our first look at Samuel L. Jackson as S.H.I.E.L.D. Chief Nick Fury on the set of "Iron Man 2," looking every bit the bad-ass in black leather and eyepatch -- or at least, as bad-ass as someone can look when standing next to a giant donut.

Never mind the environment, we said, Nick Fury is sure to be kickin' butt and taking names alongside Tony Stark in the "Iron Man" sequel, right? Not so, according to Jackson. In fact, when we caught up with the actor during an event commemorating the 20th anniversary of Spike Lee's film "Do The Right Thing," Jackson said fans will likely have to wait for "The Avengers" for Fury to see some action.

"Not this time, not yet," Jackson told MTV News of the likelihood we'll see his character become the action hero fans know in "Iron Man 2." "We still haven't moved Nick Fury into the bad-ass zone. He's still just kind of a talker." Read more...

Amber BensonFROM HOLLYWOOD CRUSH: She may be best know as Tara Meers on the series “Buffy the Vampire Slayer,” but Amber Benson (left, with Sarah Michelle Gellar) has since become an accomplished writer. She has written and produced her own films, written several comics and she and co-writer Christopher Golden created the popular BBC series “Albion.” Now, she’s taking her first solo-flight as a novelist with “Death’s Daughter,” which is book one of a trilogy.

During a book signing at Midtown Comics in Times Square, we had the chance to about her new book and its interesting protagonist, a sarcastic young woman named Calliope Reaper-Jones. Amber told Hollywood Crush, “Basically, it’s about a girl who’s father is Death. [Death as a force] is run like a corporation. He’s the president and CEO. And he gets kidnapped and [Calliope] has to come and run the company and find out what happened to her dad. But she’s like a normal girl and she doesn’t want any part of the supernatural world.”

X-MenIt's hard to think of the 1990s "X-Men" animated series that ran from 1992-1997 without hearing the theme song run through your head. However, for quite a few comic fans out there, that might not be a bad thing.

Not only did the cartoon have a cool intro, but it's widely regarded as one of the best animated adaptations of a comic book series thus far -- right up there with "Batman: The Animated Series" (and maybe even "The Maxx," too). Walt Disney Studios Home Entertainment has announced that it will release DVD collections of the third and fourth volumes of the "X-Men" animated series on September 15, and offered the full specs on what you'll find in each volume. WatchmenFROM MOVIES BLOG: I've been feeding you readers a pretty constant stream of overly expensive (or sometimes just questionable) items in my daily eBay Prop-Watch postings. Today I'm veering off in a little bit of a different direction: the selection is affordable and very clearly not a prop. It is a cool, fan-serving little piece of ephemera though.

Zack Snyder's "Watchmen" is not a terrific adaptation of Alan Moore's classic graphic novel. It is far better than a lot of people gave it credit for, but the plot becomes unhinged towards the end thanks to the liberal changes made to the story. It's impressive really, how the alterations maintain a surprising level of narrative accuracy while completely abandoning the tone and themes in Moore's original. That said, "Watchmen" is a beautiful film, and an exceedingly entertaining viewing experience for a spectacle junkie like me.

Office SpaceFor anyone wondering what's next on the schedule for Mike Judge, the writer/director of "Office Space" and creator of the animated series "Beavis and Butthead" and "King of the Hill," the wait is over. Judge will join MTV’s Josh Horowitz at San Diego Comic-Con on July 25 to discuss his new film, “Extract,” starring Jason Bateman, Mila Kunis, Ben Affleck and Kristen Wiig.

Judge will also be screening exclusive footage from the film as part of the panel, but anyone unable to make the trip to San Diego can check out MTV.com for the exclusive premiere of the “Extract” footage. The online premiere will coincide with the Comic-Con panel, but Judge offered MTV.com readers the first look at an exclusive image from "Extract" over on MTV Movies Blog. He also shared some thoughts with Splash Page about the Comic-Con experience. Read more...

ProofWith comic books such as "Human Target" and "Fables" heading to the small screen, it's only a matter of time before television gives movie theaters a run for its money in terms of graphic novel fare. If you need further proof of that claim, look no further than "Proof."

Comics2Film is reporting that Kickstart Entertainment has optioned Image Comics' "Proof" as an animated television series. According to the site's anonymous source, Samuel L. Jackson is attached to the project and could provide the voice of the lead character. Read more...

The AvengersLast week we asked you which of the potential X-Men movies you'd like to see first, and you showed up in big numbers to register your vote for "Deadpool," "X-Men: First Class," "X-Men Origins: Magneto" or the "Wolverine" sequel. Well, we're going with Marvel again for this week's poll, and asking you which of the upcoming Marvel Studios films you're looking forward to the most.

The odds-on favorite is certainly the in-production "Iron Man 2," but could Kenneth Branagh's "Thor" have fans even more excited? And what about "The First Avenger: Captain America" -- could Cap's recent return from the dead spark a bonfire of buzz? And then there's "The Avengers," which begs the question: do more superheroes mean more anticipation? Read more...

[EDITOR'S NOTE: I'm both honored and thrilled to present the following interview with comics legend Grant Morrison, which was conducted by Eisner-nominated writer, musician and producer Percy Carey, a.k.a. MF Grimm ("Sentences: The Life of MF Grimm"). Over the course of the interview, Carey covered a wide range of topics with Morrison that we'll present over the next few days here on Splash Page. But first, a message from Carey...]

I've had my share of run-ins with comic book legends, hall-of-famers even, but I'm a little animated at the moment. Who can blame me? "Animal Man," "The Invisibles," "JLA," "Batman R.I.P"...

Recently, I was given the opportunity to interview Mr. Grant Morrison. Morrison continues to be one of the comic book industry's most revered writers and is currently sitting atop the New York Times best-seller list for his graphic novel efforts. I hope you all enjoy this video interview as Morrison talks in detail about "Batman and Robin," "Final Crisis" and other topics. I know I did!

The AvengersOne way or another, "The Avengers" is coming, even if some involved in the production are skeptical about successfully bringing Marvel's hottest properties together in one film. But there's one member of Marvel Studios that's confident in the film's prospects -- Doug Finberg.

Finberg, the head of marketing for the comic book movie studio, revealed his thoughts on Marvel's movie slate during the recent Saturn Awards ceremony. According to him, the essential ingredient involved in getting superhero team-up film "The Avengers" right is, ironically enough, teamwork. Read more...

Joseph Gordon-LevittThough recent rumors have sounded the death-knell for Warner Bros’ live-action adaptation of Katsuhiro Otomo’s seminal manga, “Akira,” Joseph Gordon-Levitt isn’t ready to say die.

“You never know,” said the “500 Days of Summer” star with a coy smile when asked if the project was truly dead. Though not quite a confirmation of anything, it’s a far-cry from his comments last year which didn’t acknowledge any connection to the project whatsoever. Read more...
