Mark Millar is credited with several comic book triumphs such as "Superman: Red Son" and "The Ultimates," but it's his creator-owned works such as "Wanted" and "Kick-Ass" that are getting the most attention in Hollywood, the latter of which is currently in post-production.
In fact, the Scottish comics writer's upcoming Nicolas Cage-starrer has already received so much early buzz that a sequel is currently in the works. Millar told SCI FI Wire that "Kick-Ass 2" will be underway a lot sooner than some fans might expect -- within the next two years, even.
"'Kick-Ass 2' is already being plotted out," said Millar. "We're planning it, because all the actors are quite young and we have to make it relatively quickly. So we'll definitely do that inside the next 18 to 24 months."
Truly, "Kick-Ass" is an unusual Hollywood story. Not only is the movie's official release date still unannounced -- even if that's not the case for the book tie-in -- but the comic book series on which the film is based has not even finished yet.
With that in mind, the knee-jerk reaction is that sequel talk sounds a tad premature -- but hey, if "Kick-Ass" truly does kick ass, we won't mind seeing another installment as soon as it's ready. And if you ask Millar, he certainly seems to think it'll catch on with audiences.
Said Millar: "'Wanted' made a fortune. It made a ton of money, and it was a property nobody ever heard of. And I think 'Kick-Ass' is going to be even bigger. Everybody who's seen bits of it were rubbing their hands together with excitement because they think they've stumbled onto something very big. So I can't complain. It's not been a genius plan of mine or anything. It's just been a bunch of happy accidents that led to this."
Do you think that plans for "Kick-Ass 2" are a little hasty, or are you excited at the possibility of getting another film so soon?
