Haven't had enough of the DC Universe animated films? We haven't, either. Luckily for all of us, the PG-13 superhero adventures won't end with "Green Lantern: First Flight" -- the action takes us directly into "Superman/Batman: Public Enemies," a project that was previously rumored but is now officially announced.
The film, which is available for purchase on September 29, 2009, is based on the Jeph Loeb and Ed McGuinness comic book of the same name. In that series, the Man of Steel and the Caped Crusader are framed by United States President Lex Luthor for the arrival of an oncoming Kryptonite asteroid. On the run, the heroes must recruit help from their super-powered allies in order to uncover Luthor's nefarious plot.
"Superman/Batman: Public Enemies" boasts the return of voice actors Tim Daly, Kevin Conroy and Clancy Brown to their respective roles of Superman, Batman and Lex Luthor. Daly provided the voice of Clark Kent during the '90s "Superman" television series, and despite sporadic repeat performances, he did not continue the role in the "Justice League" cartoons. Brown, however, has played Lex Luthor in both of those shows, as well as in the recent "The Batman" series.
Conroy, of course, is the voice most readily identified with the Dark Knight, with some even calling his portrayal of Batman the definitive version. He last provided Bruce Wayne's voice in "Batman: Gotham Knight," another DC Universe animated film. He'll also lend his talents to "Batman: Arkham Asylum," the upcoming video game.
The latest DC Universe animated movie once again features the work of Bruce Timm, the celebrated animator and producer responsible for the previous installments in the series. Despite his return, "Superman/Batman" marks the departure of Lauren Montgomery, who directed both "Wonder Woman" and "Green Lantern: First Flight."
During Montgomery's well-earned and hopefully temporary hiatus, director Sam Liu will step up to the plate for "Superman/Batman." Liu has previously helmed episodes of "The Batman," and recently directed the "Hulk vs. Thor" portion of "Hulk Vs." for Marvel.
