When the comedy “Whatever Works” hits theaters next Friday, Larry David will join a glamorous line of leading men in Woody Allen films, from Hugh Jackman to Colin Farrell to Leonardo DiCaprio. With Larry beyond a doubt entering the ranks of Hollywood heartthrob-dom, might this be the start of a new movie career for the “Curb Your Enthusiasm” star?

That’s exactly what I wanted to know when I sat down to talk with David recently. Was there any type of project he wanted to pursue, any directors or actors he’d love to work along side? And then, in the middle of our chat, I threw him a loony curveball: what about taking on the role of the Riddler in “Batman 3”?

Why’d I ask? Well, maybe because the idea was in my head following Eddie Murphy’s recent comment about becoming—or not becoming—the Riddler. Maybe because I really, really wanted to make L.D. laugh. Read More...

Amazing Spider-Man 267The remake of "The Taking of Pelham 1 2 3" starring John Travolta and Denzel Washington hits theaters today, and while we've posted lists in the past that tied into the week's premieres, I felt like this was the perfect opportunity to spotlight one comic in particular... or rather, its cover.

While Washington has squared off against a wide variety of villains (and heroes) in his long movie career, his pursuit of train-hijacker Travolta in "Pelham 1 2 3" keeps reminding me of one of my favorite covers from my own collection of "Amazing Spider-Man" issues. Sure, the wall-crawler has been victorious against Doctor Octopus, Venom and any number of other super-powered foes -- but how will he fare when he takes on.... (wait for it)... "THE COMMUTER"?! Joss WhedonIt's a fairly wide consensus in geekdom that nobody wants a new "Buffy The Vampire Slayer" film unless series mastermind Joss Whedon is allowed full creative control (or at least serious consultation privileges). But as it turns out, Whedon himself isn't all that interested.

Whedon spoke with Entertainment Weekly's PopWatch about the hotly-contested "Buffy The Vampire Slayer" film relaunch -- rumored to be an interpretation of the character that not only purports to ignore Whedon's continuity, but is being developed without Whedon's participation. Still, that's not to say that the producers behind the upcoming film didn't reach out to Whedon... eventually. Read More...

America's ArmyThe U.S. Commander-in-Chief Barack Obama already has his own comics, so it stands to reason that his troops in the U.S. Army deserve a piece of the spotlight, too. The same armed forces who originally inspired G.I. Joe and Sgt. Rock will now get their own title published by the U.S. Army.

"America's Army" is the title of the new book, available to read free online at AmericasArmy.com by the people who originally published the video game of the same name. Read More...

Alexander SkarsgardRecently, he came this close to landing one of the most highly-sought-after star-making roles in Hollywood. But don’t feel too bad for stocky Swede Alexander Skarsgard, because he returns next week for the second season of the hit series “True Blood” -- which takes a bit of the sting out of the fact that he won’t be Thor.

“Yeah, I met with [Marvel Studios chief] Kevin [Feige] a few times and the director [Kenneth Branagh],” the affable Skarsgard admitted when asked about rumors that he was one of the last people cut before Chris Hemsworth was chosen to play the Norse god of thunder. “There was definitely some truth in that, yeah.” Read More...

DESC"Bromance." Love the term or hate it, it's become a part of the nation's vernacular -- and apparently, it's become a part of the comics world, too. The follow-up to last year's "Marvel Romance" collection, this August's "Marvel Bromance" will offer up some of the greatest "bromantic" moments from the publisher's long history, featuring Spider-Man, Wolverine, Deadpool and other popular characters engaging in good, old-fashioned male bonding... superhero-style.

Whether it's Tony Stark and Jim Rhodes, Cable and Deadpool or Spidey and the Human Torch, guys-only adventures have yielded some funny -- and occasionally endearing -- moments in Marvel history. Given MTV's history with covering great moments in "Bromance" history, Marvel wanted to give Splash Page readers the first look at the never-before-seen Jorge Molina cover to "Marvel Bromance." ConanLast month, we reported that "X-Men: The Last Stand" filmmaker Brett Ratner had parted ways with the "Conan" franchise, leaving the hard-drinking barbarian without a director -- but with a little luck and a blessing from Crom, a replacement has been found!

The word is in from Variety that Marcus Nispel will direct "Conan" for Nu Image/Millennium Films and Lionsgate. "Conan" will mark Nispel's third time reawakening a franchise, the first two being his directorial work on "The Texas Chainsaw Massacre" and "Friday the 13th." Read More...

DeadpoolIt’s the dream of every comic-book fan, whether they’ll admit it or not. The chance to become your favorite character, impact his story, and help determine his future.

Now, after years of lobbying for the role and finally being rewarded with a huge opening for his debut in the recent “X-Men Origins: Wolverine,” Ryan Reynolds has complete control over the character of Wade Wilson. Recently, he clued us in on some of the characters he expects to see in the “Deadpool” spinoff movie -- but, as he told us, the best part of the gig is the hands-on approach that he’s been given in developing it. Blood: The Last VampireOkay, I'll admit not knowing much about the "Blood: The Last Vampire" other than it seems to be a favorite of anime- and manga-savvy friends of mine. But after seeing how well "Death Note," one of my favorite series, was translated to the live-action medium, I'm willing to give anything a shot.

Samuel Goldwyn Films has released a big batch of images from the upcoming, live-action adaptation of "Blood:The Last Vampire," which stars Gianna Jun as Saya, a 400-year-old, half-vampire assassin on a covert mission in Vietnam-era Japan. Tasked with infiltrating a military school to discover the identity of a hidden demon, Saya has to find out which one of her classmates is the deadly creature preying on humans. Read More...

Tim BurtonFROM MOVIES BLOG: Here's a potentially cool outing for you New Yorkers. And with plenty of advance time to plan too! New York's MoMA -- that's The Museum of Modern Art for you troglodytes -- is planning a career retrospective for filmmaker Tim Burton. You know, the guy who did "Batman" and "The Nightmare Before Christmas" and "Edward Scissorhands" and "Pee Wee's Big Adventure" and "Ed Wood" and "Beetlejuice" and... you get the idea. He's a busy guy with a unique vision. A vision of awesome.

According to MoMA's website, the exhibition will present "artwork generated during the conception and production of his films, [highlighting] a number of unrealized projects and never-before-seen pieces, as well as student art, his earliest non-professional films, and examples of his work as a storyteller and graphic artist for non-film projects." It sure is a mouthful, but Burton fans should be very, very excited.
