"High School Musical" star Vanessa Hudgens has become one of the most sought-after young women in Hollywood with upcoming turns in both the reimagined "Beauty and the Beast" film "Beastly" and Zack Snyder's alternate-reality thriller "Sucker Punch."

A self-professed fan of all things Snyder, Hudgens confessed to having watched "300" several times already when MTV News spoke with her on the set of "Beastly" -- including a viewing of the action-heavy Frank Miller adaptation the previous night. Given that segue, we had to ask her: Are there any comic book characters or stories she'd like to bring to the screen?

"Wonder Woman?" she ventured, only to quickly launch into a story of the important role comics played in bringing her to the screen. Read More...

300In addition to writing a few new "Sin City" stories for "Sin City 2," Frank Miller is also hard at work on a new tale for the sequel to "300."

Director Zack Snyder teased in an April MTV interview that there was a way to continue the franchise, and Miller previously claimed that he would set his new script after "300" during the Greco-Persian Wars and featuring "some of the same characters." Now, Snyder indicates that Miller may be moving along and re-visiting Greece to do research as he completes the graphic novel that will become the "300" sequel. Read More...

Seth MeyersThe MTV mothership announced its slate of in-development programming this week, and among the titles announced is one particular project that should pique the interest of comic book fans.

"The Awesomes" is described as an animated half-hour series created by "Saturday Night Live" head writer Seth Meyers and fellow SNL-er Mike Shoemaker that "follows an unassuming superhero and his cohorts as they battle evil villains, the paparazzi, and a less than desirable reputation as bumbling losers." WatchmenIf you didn't feel like you got your money's worth paying to see "Watchmen" in its original 162-minute incarnation, there is good news today, because Zack Snyder has announced that the film is returning to theaters in select cities this summer, even longer than before.

"Watchmen: The Director's Cut," which Snyder called "considerably more violent" and "sexier" than the movie's original version, will only be out for a week leading up to its DVD and Blu-ray releases, but the director's will cap the limited run by hosting a July 25 screening at Comic-Con. Female ForceDon't let the cover of Bluewater Productions' new "Female Force: Volume I" fool you. Sarah Palin and Hillary Clinton have not formed a ladies' version of the Justice League -- which is too bad, because there's a great crossover to be had with Robert Smigel's X-Presidents.

While Palin is indeed brawling in at least one comic -- Devil's Due Publishing's "Barack the Barbarian" -- Bluewater instead opted for a non-fiction series about prominent figures such as Oprah Winfrey and Condoleezza Rice, several of whom appear in the new "Female Force" collection. Read More...

Brandon RouthActor Brandon Routh will complete a unique comic book movie trifecta when he wraps work on "Dead of Night." The star of "Superman Returns" already grabbed a top-shelf role in a superhero movie, and soon he'll appear in theaters in a live-action adaptation of "Scott Pilgrim Vs. The World," based on the hit indie comic.

The third jewel in his comics-movie crown will be his starring role as Dylan Dog in the upcoming film "Dead of Night," which will round out his résumé nicely with an Italian comics horror property -- one which Routh told MTV News his producers might lighten up a bit from its source material. Cowboy BebopThe "Cowboy Bebop" camp has been awfully quiet lately. Following initial reports that Fox had acquired the multi-faceted space western for a live-action release starring Keanu Reeves as Spike Spiegel, new details have been sparse. Fortunately for fans, screenwriter Peter Craig broke Internet silence this week, reassuring Beboppers that the project is progressing -- and will be faithful to the source material.

In an interview with Anime Vice, Craig explained his latest "Bebop" script is nearly complete and better than ever thanks to his anime immersion. Read More...

The Dark KnightIt would probably be the understatement of the year to say that both comic book fans and general movie audiences were somewhat disappointed when "The Dark Knight," the second highest-grossing film of all time, failed to garner a "Best Picture" nomination during last year's Academy Awards. While there was no shortage of complaints and head-shaking at the time, the conspicuous absence of one of the most-watched films of the year (and in Hollywood history) sparked quite a bit of discussion regarding the relevance of the Oscars for the modern audience.

Apparently, that debate didn't fall on deaf ears. As reported on MTV.com earlier today, the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences has decided to expand the pool of "Best Picture" nominees from 5 to 10 films. In their announcement regarding the change, the group specifically cited "The Dark Knight" debacle as one of the factors in the decision. Read More...

The LosersWith just about every lead role filled, the only thing left for "The Losers" to achieve -- other than actually completing the film, of course -- is a release date. Well, as someone more famous than I once said, mission accomplished.

According to Box Office Mojo, "The Losers" will hit theaters on April 16, 2010. The DC Comics adaptation will debut on the same day as New Line's "A Nightmare on Elm Street," leaving geeks of both the comic book and horror persuasions with a choice between which genre they value more. Read More...

Joe QuesadaDon't let Mickey Rourke's appearance as a whip-clad Russian prisoner fool you -- if you ask the right person, such as Marvel's Editor-in-Chief Joe Quesada, you're likely to find out that Rourke's a pretty nice guy.

That's the scoop from Quesada himself, who talked about meeting the actor on the "Iron Man 2" set in his most recent Cup O' Joe column. According to Quesada, Rourke is a far cry from his on-screen persona. Read More...
