Marvel TransformersWith "Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen" hitting theaters today, it's easy to forget that, along with blockbuster movies of the live-action and animated variety, long-running cartoon series and hundreds of toys, Hasbro's shape-changing robots have a long history in the comics world, too.

Earlier this week, we gave you our list of the five most important "Transformers" comics you should check out, and now we thought it might be worth taking a trip down memory lane with Optimus Prime, Megatron and the rest of the "Robots in Disguise" and examine the twists and turns of their long journey on the printed page. The AvengersEven for a comic book movie screenwriting veteran such as Zak Penn, the task of bringing multiple Marvel characters together in one film is a daunting one. It's so daunting, in fact, that Penn isn't even sure it'll work when he has to write "The Avengers" this summer.

"It's hard to make a good movie," the screenwriter told a crowd gathered at a Los Angeles Film Festival panel last night, according to Sci Fi Wire. "We all have the best intentions, and it still might suck." Read More...

The Last ManDon't count the last man on Earth out of the picture yet, folks. Hot on the heels of Shia LaBeouf saying that he was no longer interested in playing Yorick in "Y: The Last Man" comes word that the actor is still very much interested in the project -- he's just not ready for it right now.

"I am!" LaBeouf told Collider when asked if he was still hoping to star in the Vertigo comic book adaptation. "You see, the thing is Brian K. Vaughn [writer of 'Y: The Last Man'], Neil Gaiman, the guys who write the 'Criminal' series, these are all my favorite, this is my favorite stuff to read. It's the stuff that I love. 'Y: The Last Man' is my favorite comic book. It's also [director] DJ Caruso's favorite comic book. We do want to make it. It's just too 'Sam Witwicky.'" Read More...

Sure, Spider-Man and the X-Men both had catchy songs in their cartoons, and Batman had a whole movie soundtrack full of Prince tunes, but comic books themselves don't usually come with theme songs. However, with the release of "Runaways" #11 today, Marvel Comics is looking to buck that trend by releasing their first-ever "theme song" for a series -- as well as a new music video they're exclusively debuting here on Splash Page.

We're proud to present your first look (and listen) at the "Runaways Theme Song," featuring vocals by Marvel editor Nick Lowe, who oversees the series.

Created in 2003 by "Y: The Last Man" comics scribe (and "Lost" television series writer) Brian K. Vaughan, the teen superhero series "Runaways" is now in the midst of its third volume (with a film also in the works), and has counted notable creators such as "Buffy the Vampire Slayer" creator Joss Whedon among its authors over the series' celebrated six-year run. Issue #11 of the new volume hits shelves today and kicks off a new story arc by writer Kathryn Immonen and artist Sara Pichelli. Read More...

Callum BlueJust as "Superman II" viewers kneeled before Zod, so too will "Smallville" fans bow before the very same menace -- except this time, Terence Stamp is nowhere to be found.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, actor Callum Blue has joined the ranks of "Smallville" as a series regular playing General Zod, the Kryptonian villain made famous in the Christopher Reeve-starring "Superman" movies. Read More...

Tupac ShakurTupac Shakur lived on in the hearts of many after he was shot dead in 1996. Now, the roads might be paved for him to live on in new graphic novels as well. Eminem and Public Enemy are appearing in comics these days, and 50 Cent is looking to them for inspiration, so it might not be so surprising that Death Row Records, bought during bankruptcy in January for $18 million, could become a comics publisher as part of its new multimedia ambitions.

"Our goal is to continually breathe new life into Death Row," WIDEawake Entertainment Group founder Lara Lavi told Billboard.com. Read More...

FREDDY VS. JASON VS. ASH: THE NIGHTMARE WARRIORSI'm running a day late on this week's edition of "Best Bets," but I hope you'll excuse the delay. When someone offers advance tickets to "Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen," any self-respecting geek worth his long boxes knows that decisions have to be made and schedules should be shuffled for Optimus Prime -- and let's be honest here, Megan Fox.

So, without further excuses on my side, let's get right to the best of this week's comics with Hollywood ties, shall we?

"FREDDY VS. JASON VS. ASH: THE NIGHTMARE WARRIORS" #1 (DC/Dynamite) -- Not only is it the sequel to 2007's "Freddy Vs. Jason Vs. Ash" miniseries, which was based on the script to a movie that would have tied together the "Freddy Vs. Jason" movie and the "Evil Dead" trilogy (and that alone should be enough to excite, well... anyone), but "Nightmare Warriors" is co-written by James Kuhoric and comics/movie veteran Jeff Katz -- who provided the script treatment for the original "Freddy Vs. Jason Vs. Ash" story. Basically, "Nightmare Warriors" is likely to be every bit as good as you hope it will be. Read More...

Earlier this year, "Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen" star Tyrese Gibson announced plans to create his own comic book series, "Mayhem," about a gun-slinging vigilante battling with a crime lord for control of Los Angeles.

MTV News caught up with Gibson during a recent "Transformers" press event, and along with sharing a few more details about "Mayhem," the actor also mentioned that he was still waiting for movement on the long-rumored "Luke Cage" movie, as well as word on a potential role in -- get ready for this -- Marvel's upcoming movie "The First Avenger: Captain America."

"The energy from Comic-Con really did something to me," Gibson told MTV News of what prompted him to try his hand at comics. "Instead of me sitting back and waiting on 'Luke Cage' to finally happen -- which I'm still looking forward to doing once they get the script together -- and instead of me waiting on 'Captain America,' which they were talking about me for, I'm going to create my own. And that's what I did." Read More...

The Last AirbenderFROM MTV MOVIES: The lavish ice palace had gone silent. The Fire and Water nations were no longer waging acrobatic battle between its frosty walls, and from the snow covered steps to the blown-glass chandeliers hanging above the balconies, a beautiful tranquility had descended.

Meanwhile, the production was in full, hectic swing across town, where another massive hangar housed another set for M. Night Shyamalan's gargantuan, fantastical adventure story, "The Last Airbender." Packs of extras wearing Samurai-like battle gear wandered here and there. Workers drilled and sawed and hammered. And Shyamalan and his star, Dev Patel of "Slumdog Millionaire" fame, were in the middle of it all, filming a pivotal fight scene.

Take after take, they kept at it, kept pushing to get it perfect, until the director decided to move on. "We'll live with it," Shyamalan said with a smile as MTV News watched from the sidelines.

Wolverine and DeadpoolYesterday, we reported on "X-Men Origins: Magneto" writer/director David Goyer's comments regarding the scheduling of various X-Men movies after the success of "X-Men Origins: Wolverine" at the box office. With a sequel to "Wolverine" planned and a "Deadpool" spin-off movie green-lit almost immediately after the first "Wolverine" box office report arrived, there's now some uncertainty about when we'll see previously announced films like "X-Men Origins: Magneto" or "X-Men: First Class" go into production.

Here at Splash Page HQ, we're wondering which of the X-Men films you'd like to see first. Are you hoping for more of Ryan Reynolds and the "Merc with a Mouth" before diving into the origins of the "Mutant Master of Magnetism"? Would you rather see a Logan-less team of X-Men coming together for the first time, or more of Hugh Jackman's adamantium-filled adventures? Read More...
