Criminal MacabreCal McDonald is a mess of a man... and that's the way fans like him. Created by renowned horror scribe Steve Niles, the drug-infused anti-hero's publishing history is as varied as his nearly 20 years of "Criminal Macabre" adventures with Dark Horse Comics.

Between several comic book series, novels, and online content, McDonald has killed a monster in almost every medium. Now with the possibility of a film adaptation on the way, the paranormal detective could be poised for a jump from self-imposed obscurity to mainstream monster hunting. Read More...

Jessica AlbaIs it not enough that Jessica Alba has already played iconic comic book characters in "Fantastic Four" and "Sin City"? Apparently not, as rumors swirl today about her involvement with yet another paneled page property.

ICv2 is reporting that Alba has acquired the screen rights to a French comic book series titled "The Insiders." The news originated from "various French language Websites," which also pegs Alba's "Sin City" director Robert Rodriguez as her partner in securing the comic's film rights. Read More...

Green Lantern First Flight"Wonder Woman" producer Bruce Timm and director Lauren Montgomery had very little time between that film and their work on "Green Lantern: First Flight," but luckily they had a sturdy crutch to lean on -- Jose Lopez.

Lopez is responsible for a large portion of the designs in "First Flight," Timm told reporters, and his work on the project was the exact fresh take Timm wanted in order to distinguish the film from his "Justice League" animated series. Read More...

Roland KickingerLast week, the new "Conan" found its director in the gore-happy Marcus Nispel ("Friday the 13th"). The hunt was on for the man to wield the broadsword, and Lionsgate was said to be on the lookout for an unknown to play the iconic part. The Hollywood Reporter is claiming that they may have found him .... and he's a dead ringer for cinema's first Conan, Arnold Schwarzenegger.

Austrian actor Roland Kickinger is currently in talks to star in the remake, and is not only a physical match for the original "Conan the Barbarian" actor, but he shares a similar biography. He's a body-builder turned actor, and he had a role as a T-800 in this summer's "Terminator: Salvation." He also played Ah-nuld in "See Arnold Run," an A&E biopic about the Schwarzenegger's run for the California governor's office. Read More...

Memories of my childhood: Jonah Hex used to freak me out, big time. As much as I loved reading the comic tales of the Western anti-hero with the messed-up face, I also had many a nightmare fueled by him -- particularly when my father brought home this issue for his impressionable young son. Now, Jonah is coming back with an awesome recent episode of “Batman: The Brave and the Bold,” and an upcoming "Jonah Hex" movie starring Josh Brolin and Megan Fox.

And, according to the latter, “Hex” sequels are sure to follow.

“You don’t think there will be a sequel to ‘Jonah Hex’?” Megan Fox teased when we caught up with her recently, discussing the future of the gunslinging bounty-hunter. “They leave it open for a sequel.” Read More...

Actors Michael Cera and Jack Black are getting ready to offer audiences a uniquely skewed history lesson this weekend in "Year One," but when the pair sat down with MTV News to discuss the film, we also managed to pick their brains about a few other projects to which they're lending their considerable talents -- namely, the "Scott Pilgrim Vs. The World" adaptation and potential remake of the animated classic "Heavy Metal."

It was recently announced that Black was contributing something to the animated "Heavy Metal" film that could also feature contributions from Zack Snyder, James Cameron and other Hollywood notables -- but exactly what that contribution would entail, well... just watch the video.

"Me and Kyle [Gass], Tenacious D, we wrote a song for the 'Heavy Metal' remake," Black told MTV News. "Hopefullythat will happen. The song is kick-ass."

Cera, meanwhile, weighed in on the difficulty of the much-discussed "Scott Pilgrim" fight scenes -- and how director Edgar Wright makes them look easy.

Looking forward to "Scott Pilgrim" and (if it's green-lit) "Heavy Metal"? What about "Year One"?

Dr. DoomOver at Multiplayer, MTV's mecca of all things gaming, editor Russ Frushtick has the scoop on THQ's debut of "Marvel Super Hero Squad" earlier today. As you'll probably recall, the "Super Hero Squad" game is based on the upcoming younger-oriented "Marvel Super Hero Squad" animated series.

After his "Super Hero Squad" demo, Frushtick couldn't help but share an image from the game's menu screen featuring everyone's favorite Latverian dictator, looking like he definitely isn't a morning person.

The worlds of comic books and hip-hop certainly seem to be bumping into each other more often these days -- whether it's lyrics and album art referencing popular characters and storylines, or even the musicians themselves popping up in comics. In the case of 50 Cent's new street album, "War Angel," it's the concept of a comic that inspired the album's title and best summarized the vibe of the project.

"I used the War Angel title for it [because] I read a comic book through Marvel Comics. The guy who created it, he's done 'Nightmare on Elm Street' and illustrations I'm familiar with," 50 told MTV News. "He created this concept: War Angel. God created these angels to create war. It's necessary on some level. I took the concept. It's kinda from the perspective I grew up under."

While the "War Angel" miniseries that debuted the Brian Pulido character in 2005 was actually published by Avatar Press (not Marvel), we'll forgive 50's attribution confusion. I mean, come on -- do you want to be the one to tell him he made a mistake?

PersepolisProbably the best known Iranian creator in comics today, Marjane Satrapi's two-volume graphic novel memoir "Persepolis" captivated readers internationally when it was published by Pantheon before the feature-length animated adaptation she directed earned an Oscar nomination. This week, she and fellow filmmaker Mohsen Makhmalbaf let their views be known about the recent, contested Iranian election, and presented a document that she believes proves current president Mahmoud Ahmadinejad lost to challenger Mir Hossein Mousavi.

"Ahmadinejad received only 12 percent of the vote, not 65 percent," said Satrapi, according to Adnkronos. She and Makhmalbaf presented the document, which they claimed came directly from the Iranian electoral commission, to the Green Party MPs in the European parliament. Read More...

Green LanternWriter Marc Guggenheim is hard at work managing a monthly comic book series and screenplay based on "Resurrection," his story about life on Earth after an alien invasion, but when I spoke to him about both projects last week, I had to ask him about another film he's working on, too -- one that also involves aliens and humans, and has its roots in the comic book world.

Along with "Resurrection," Guggenheim is co-writing the screenplay for the live-action "Green Lantern" movie based on the DC hero who uses a powerful ring to guard the Earth and surrounding areas of the universe against danger. He and fellow writers Michael Green and Greg Berlanti delivered yet another draft of the screenplay last week, and while he couldn't share many details about the film's plot, he did share some thoughts about the scripting process, the multitude of casting rumors and -- possibly most intriguing -- a new Green Lantern they created for the movie.
