There are many words you could use to describe a genuine, true-to-life encounter with one of your favorite comic book characters. For comic book writer Justin Gray, that word is "surreal."
In an interview conducted by our very own Elisabeth Rappe at Cinematical, the "Jonah Hex" comic book writer recalled meeting Josh Brolin on the set of the DC Comics adaptation, saying that it was a moment he'd never forget.
"The first time I saw Josh Brolin dressed as Hex was dizzying," admitted Gray. "I mean there's Jonah Hex right in front of me in a surreal moment I'll always remember."
Both Gray and Jimmy Palmiotti, the masterminds behind DC's current run of "Jonah Hex" comic books, were fortunate enough to visit the New Orleans set where Brolin, Megan Fox and a slew of other actors have been filming. Luckier still, Gray was able to discuss the character with Brolin himself.
"He was very happy to sit and talk with Jimmy Palmiotti and I about the role, his portrayal and overall feeling of the film," said the writer. "He was loving the role and you could see it pouring out of him during takes."
Not only is Brolin nailing the role of Hex, according to Gray, but the film itself is hitting the perfect tone.
"The approach they're taking is exactly right, straight western with a style that breaks from the perception that a western should be slow moving," he described. "I wish I could talk more about it in greater detail. Being on and around the set was surreal."
How would you react if you met Jonah Hex in person?
