For last week's poll, I asked readers which of the upcoming Marvel Studios movies had you most excited -- and while there was indeed a winner of the coveted "Most-Anticipated Marvel Movie" title, the results also indicated that there's an impressive level of excitement for all of the Marvel movies.
In the end, Marvel's "Avengers" nabbed the top spot in our survey of Splash Page readers, pulling in 29 percent of the total vote. However, it's worth noting that Tony Stark and "Iron Man 2" weren't far behind the superhero team-up project.
Jon Favreau's "Iron Man" sequel tallied 26 percent of the final tally, and managed to accumulate a massive number of votes without a single Twitter from the filmmaker.
But what about "The Last Avenger: Captain America" and "Thor"?
When all the votes were counted, both films collected 23 percent of the vote. However, the actual number of votes gave the edge to Steve Rogers (by only 8 votes!), putting the patriotic super-soldier over the Son of Odin in the third-place slot. Was it Fourth of July sentiment, the character's recent return from the dead in the comic book world, or something else entirely?
Here's what some readers had to say on MTV.com and Twitter:
- @JustinHamill: Is there any question, @mtvsplashpage ? Captain America! I mean, I did just get his shield tattoo'd on me. (Nice ink!)
- Tony Stark: I really want to see The Avengers in the worst way, but as an Iron Man fan since the 60s, he's always going to be #1.
- MarvelKnight: I'm actually looking forward to Thor the most. Its got a different edge, a different style than the other movies, and I'm excited about what we know of the cast right now. Let's see the Thunder God unleashed!
- @lonelypond: Cap...great hero; great story...it'd be nice to see a superhero movie more about heart than SFX...Man w/o Country for sequel
- RamoneC: I loved the first Iron Man, but I see it as a means to get to the Avengers film. Cap will be cool, but they're only real chance at character development is showing how a relic can still be relevant. Thor will end up being a Dungeons and Dragons movie with better direction/casting. I can't imagine how they'll weave him into the Marvel movie universe without it being jarring. I'll still enjoy it though. I've been hoping to see the Vision on screen for years. I figure he's 3 Avengers films away, so the sooner they get the show on the road, the better. Avengers Assemble!
So, now that all the votes have been tallied, "Earth's Mightiest" superteam reigns supreme as the most exciting subject matter for a Marvel movie right now -- and that means 2012 can't arrive soon enough!
Keep an eye out for the next weekly poll tomorrow!
