It looks like "Green Lantern" isn't the only space-faring comic book movie property in the works -- there's an entirely different character taking to the big screen to fight the fears of Earth's outer orbit.
Dark Horse's "Fear Agent" is in early development at Universal, according to The Hollywood Reporter. The Rick Remender-penned series is considered "an open-writing assignment," with a spec script currently controlled by "Air Force One" producer Jonathan Shestack. Universal is looking to bring Shestack on board to produce the comic book film.
"Fear Agent" focuses on Heath Huston, a borderline alcoholic astronaut from Texas. He's also one of the last remaining Fear Agents, a task force assigned with eliminating threats to the planet Earth. The series is heavily rooted in science fiction, though it's equally notable for its various plot twists and horrific turns.
Last year, Remender spoke about the possibility of a "Fear Agent" movie coming to fruition. The scribe -- who currently writes Marvel's "Punisher" comic books -- admitted that there were plans "in the works" to bring the series to film, though he couldn't elaborate beyond that. He did, however, offer some casting suggestions.
"If I had my choice of the actor to play Heath Huston I'd say Jon Hamm or Aaron Eckhart."
Eckhart and Hamm have both played comic book characters in their career -- the former starred as Two-Face in "The Dark Knight," while the latter briefly portrayed the role of Lex Luthor in a parody video. With Remender's endorsement, perhaps one of them can continue on in the world of comic books.
