Seth RogenEarlier today we brought you the news that "Kick-"Ass" and "Ghost Rider" actor Nicolas Cage might be adding yet another comic book movie to his resume with a villainous role in Seth Rogen and Michel Gondry's "Green Hornet." Now, we have word straight from Rogen himself about the character Cage is in talks to play.

"There was no classic villain, so we had to create a villain," Rogen told MTV News of the film's chief villain.

Given the hero's status as a somewhat unknown commodity among modern audiences and his lack of a recognizable rogues gallery, the decision seems to make sense. But Rogen cautioned that the villain wouldn't be the absurd, over-the-top nemesis that often squares off against masked heroes in theaters these days. Read more...

Ryan ReynoldsRyan Reynolds might not be the first actor to play both DC and Marvel Comics characters in theaters by the time he finishes work on "Green Lantern," but he might be the most tightly scheduled, depending on how the film's shooting calendar matches up with the "Deadpool" production schedule.

Starring in two competing films in 2011 doesn't seem to faze Reynolds, however, least of all because the properties come from opposites sides of comics' Big Two publishers.

"There's no rule that says you can't play two different characters in two different comic-book universes," Reynolds told Entertainment Weekly. Deadpool co-creator Rob Liefeld pointed out Reynolds' comment on his Twitter site. Read more...

LoboProducer Joel Silver's expectations for his Guy Ritchie-directed "Sgt. Rock" movie might be on the back burner, but that doesn't mean the Hollywood power-player behind "Sherlock Holmes" and "The Matrix" isn't looking at other comics right now for material. In fact, it now sounds like Silver has his eye on DC Comics' Lobo, the intergalactic biker with a fowl mouth and Gene Simmons-styled eye makeup.

However, the movie version of Lobo might be slightly more family-friendly than his original comics incarnation, according to Silver.

"I think it's structured now as a PG-13 movie," Silver told a group of reporters, according to SCI FI Wire. "I think we've done it that way, but I love it." Read more...

Kick-AssThere's no arguing that San Diego's annual Comic-Con International has drifted a long ways from being your standard comic book convention, but there's also no denying that it's become the place to get the first look at many of the most-anticipated movies based on your favorite comics.

So, even if you're not attending the big show, what film are you most looking forward to hearing about during the next few days? And who will be the show's "big winner" as far as convention buzz?

Voting in this poll will end Monday, July 27, at 12 PM EST. Make sure to post a comment here (or via Twitter) with your reasons for voting the way you did, as I’ll be selecting responses from readers to feature in a post about the results. Read more...

Nicktoons' animated "Wolverine And The X-Men" series continues to be a hit among kids and comic book lovers alike, and in the next volume of the series to hit DVD (arriving on shelves today), Logan squares off against the foe that first introduced him to the comics world: The Hulk.

Titled "Wolverine and the X-Men: Deadly Enemies," the latest collection of the animated series includes five episodes that feature everyone from Nightcrawler and Gambit to the villainous Shadow King and (my personal favorite) Mojo. And then there's that aforementioned brawl with the green goliath -- which, as you can see in the clip below, offers a nice nod to the blue-and-yellow "whiskered" costume Wolverine wore when he made his debut in the now-classic 1974 issue of "The Incredible Hulk."

Nice use of grenades, eh? After the jump, get the lowdown on all the "Deadly Enemies" DVD specs. Read more...

Wide Awake Even though they put their main character through an unending nightmare, cinematic dreams could be coming true for the creators of "Wide Awake." Do-Over Productions has optioned the horror-themed series for a film adaptation, suggesting the oft-delayed webcomic could be picking up steam.

Created by Eric Trautmann ("JSA vs. Kobra") and Brandon Jerwa ("Battlestar Galactica: Ghosts") with art by Micro Pierfederici and art direction by David Messina, "Wide Awake" made its debut in 2008 with the short story "Behind The Wall Of Sleep" in Image Comics' "Popgun" Vol. 2 anthology.

It's since been followed by series preview "Blink of an Eye," which sees protagonist Amanda Carter take out her sleep-deprived existence (and coffee shortage) on a hovering, one-eyed mass of tentacles. The slaying of nightmare creatures is routine maintenance for the heroine, who is followed into her waking life by the monsters she battles in her sleep. Read more...

Teenage Mutant Ninja TurtlesThe upcoming "Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles" movie finally has a writer -- and it looks like the Peter Laird and Kevin Eastman characters will have no shortage of fight scenes in their next big-screen bow.

According to Variety, "Young Guns" and "The Forbidden Kingdom" scribe John Fusco will pen the screenplay for the new, live-action film based we first brought you news about last year. The article claims that, along with penning several fight-friendly films, Fusco has been "practicing martial arts since he was 12, and continues to study Shaolin kung-fu."

And along with bringing his martial arts savvy to the mix, it appears that Fusco will also be returning to the characters' comic book roots for the film, too. Read more...

Nicolas CageJust as Stephen Chow's involvement in "Green Hornet" has officially come to an end, word comes in that two other actors are circling the project.

Along with confirming an earlier report that actress Cameron Diaz is eyeing a role in the Michel Gondry-directed "The Green Hornet," Variety adds that "Kick-Ass" actor Nicolas Cage is in early negotiations to join the cast of the Seth Rogen movie as well.

If the casting pans out, Cage will play a gangster villain opposite Rogen's masked crime fighter. The report also notes that Diaz's character is a reporter and love interest for the titular hero. Read more...

Back in June, we reported that ABC Family's canceled "The Middleman" television series (based on the Viper Comics series by "Lost" writer Javier Grillo-Marxuach) would say farewell to fans with a cast reading of the unfilmed 13th episode, "The Doomsday Armageddon Apocalypse," along with the release of a comic book adaptation of the episode at San Diego Comic-Con. But fans who can't make the convention needn't feel left out -- all 12 of the original series episodes arrive on DVD July 28, complete with extras and of Easter Eggs only fans can catch.

Splash Page spoke with Grillo-Marxuach about his time with the series, its cancellation and what surprises viewers can expect to uncover in the DVD -- including a very familiar prop from a fan-favorite, sci-fi movie franchise. Read more...

American JesusGiven Matthew Vaughn's recent comments on "Kick-Ass" and Mark Millar's own film success with "Wanted," it's quite apparent that the director and the comic book writer have a good thing going on between them. It's so good, in fact, that Millar and Vaughn are said to be teaming up for "American Jesus" based on Millar's Image Comics series.

But is Vaughn really helming another Millar property? Not necessarily, said the director.

"I'm not [attached], actually," Vaughn told MTV News. "I've been talking to Mark, helping him with it, but people sort of read between the lines with that." Read more...
