Dethklok vs. The GoonIt's a big week for comic books with ties to the movie and television world, and that means you better bring a few extra dollars to the shop this time around. Here's what you need to pick up this week to make your life complete:

"DETHKLOK VS. THE GOON" (Dark Horse) -- The crossover that is very likely to rock your face off and tattoo an inky black mark upon your soul is here, folks. Here's hoping your affairs are in your order, because when Nathan Explosion, William Murderface and the rest of Adult Swim's "Metalocalypse" cast face off against The Goon, there's no way a single comic book can contain the collateral damage.

We brought you the exclusive announcement of this one-shot story back in March, along with a video promo for the project created by "Metalocalypse" creator Brendan Small. If you haven't seen it yet, make sure to do so. Read more...

RedWarren Ellis and Cully Hamner's WildStorm series "Red" stirred up speculation several months ago when Bruce Willis entered headlines as a candidate to star. This weekend, Morgan Freeman joined the "Die Hard" actor as a possible cast member as well.

"It does indeed look real promising, and I'm very hopeful," Hamner wrote on his blog in response to the Variety story. "But I have to point out that, to my knowledge, neither actor is a done deal, and even if I'm wrong and they are, it doesn't mean the movie will even get made." Read more...

Jennifer's BodyWe brought you news back in May of the upcoming "Jennifer's Body" graphic novel based on the horror film by Diablo Cody ("Juno") and starring Megan Fox. Now we get a peek at two covers from the first issue of the comic, both featuring illustrated versions of a blood-drenched Fox.

The story of a demonically possessed high school teenager who feeds on her male classmates, "Jennifer's Body" hits theaters this fall -- but the tie-in comic arrives on shelves sometime in August.

Writer Rick Spears is handling all of the stories collected in the comic (which occur within the "Jennifer's Body" universe), while Jim Mahfood ("Kick Drum Comix"), Tim Seeley ("Hack/Slash"), Nikki Cook ("DMZ") and Ming Doyle ("Popgun") will handle the interior art. There's a nine-page preview of one of the stories at ShockTillYouDrop.com, along with covers by Eric Jones and Frank Cho (which I've posted here). Read more...

Just last week we received confirmation from "Kick-Ass" director Matthew Vaughn that Nicolas Cage and Chloe Moretz will indeed be wearing their costumes from the comic book, and also heard that the images of Moretz released thus far are not how her vigilante alter ego will look in the film. Now we have a description straight from Cage himself about his costume for the film -- and what you can expect to see when his character, Big Daddy, appears on screen.

"Yes, yes you will," Cage told MTV News when asked whether we'll see him in full-on costume during the film. "That's going to happen... the cape, the full shebang." Read more...

Spider-Man & BatmanLast week's poll asked readers to vote on the comic book movie sequel they're most eager to see, and when all the votes were tallied, Hollywood heavy-hitters Spider-Man and Batman both emerged victorious with the most-wanted follow-ups to their respective films.

In the end, "Spider-Man 4" and "Batman 3" tied for the top vote-getters in the poll, each nabbing 29 percent of the total votes. However, Jon Favreau's just-wrapped "Iron Man 2" followed closely on their tails, tallying 26 percent of the votes.

After the top three options, it wasa big jump down to the rest of the poll's choices. Read more...

Black WidowEveryone knows a picture is worth a thousand words, but in the case of the seductive spy from "Iron Man 2," an image could inspire fans to purchase four comics' worth of text.

Following last Friday's pictorial debut of Scarlett Johansson as the Black Widow, the LA Times released an opportune first-look at the upcoming "Black Widow: Deadly Origin," a four-issue miniseries designed to engage longtime fans with a new tale while catching new fans up on the adventures of the former soviet super spy.

Written by Paul Cornell ("Doctor Who," "Captain Britain and MI: 13") with art by Tom Raney (“Dark Reign: Hawkeye”), the series links Natasha Romanoff's sordid past with a modern-day weapon she's unwittingly passed on to her former love interests -- meaning the lives of heroes such as Hawkeye, Daredevil and, of course, Iron Man are all at stake. The "Watchmen" Director's Cut DVD hits shelves this week, capping a limited-release run in theaters, and now that we're at the mid-point of 2009 it's hard not to look back on the film a little more fondly. With few blockbuster-level comic book films on the immediate horizon and mixed reactions to the last one ("X-Men Origins: Wolverine") comic fans might feel an understandable urge to revisit Zack Snyder's adaptation of the epic Alan Moore and Dave Gibbons series.

Along with 25 minutes of extra footage (and significantly more violence and gore, according to Snyder), the "director's cut of "Watchmen" will also offer a host of behind-the-scenes clips and making-of video moments -- including the following "The Unfilmable Is Filmed" featurette that puts the vast scope of the project in the spotlight:

The "Watchmen" Director's Cut DVD hits shelves Tuesday, July 21, and will be screened July 25 at Comic-Con in San Diego. Owners of the Blu-ray version of the film will also be able to use the BD Live feature to watch Snyder's Comic-Con panel that accompanies the screening.

Planning to pick up "Watchmen" this week? Looking forward to the Director's Cut of the film? Let us know in the comment section!

The FlashLast year, Richard Donner tagged his former assistant, comic book scribe Geoff Johns, as an ideal writer to script the next Superman film. Johns, meanwhile, told MTV News he "would love a crack at Superman or the Flash."

Now, it appears both voices were heard by someone in charge, as Johns was brought in as a producer and consultant for DC's upcoming, live-action "Flash" movie.

Johns has already developed a treatment for the film, which will be written by Dan Mazeau, according to The Hollywood Reporter. The article, which says Johns will stay on as a producer for "The Flash," calls the hire part of Warner Bros. broader strategy to develop DC Comics properties on the big screen with increasing input from comics creators, including Johns, Marv Wolfman, and Grant Morrison. Robert Downey Jr. and Jon FavreauBack on April 6, we brought you the news that "Iron Man 2" filming was officially underway -- or more accurately, director Jon Favreau brought us the news via Twitter. Now, a few weeks shy of four months later, Favreau has reported (via Twitter) that filming is completed on the much-anticipated sequel to the 2008 blockbuster.

"We just wrapped principal photography," posted Favreau on Saturday, immediately following it with, "Next stop, San Diego."

The director had been posting updates on the conclusion to various cast members' photography throughout the day, including the final scenes at Tony Stark's workshop. And when all was said and done, Favreau and the "Iron Man 2" cast and crew did exactly what one might expect "Iron Man 2" star Robert Downey Jr.'s comic book alter ego to do after a hard day's work: they partied. Tim BurtonIt's been 20 years since Tim Burton's "Batman" introduced a moody Michael Keaton to movie audiences, effectively re-establishing the caped crusader as an obsessive loner after extended periods of live-action and animated campiness. While the more whimsical elements of 1992's "Batman Returns" sometimes overshadow Burton's legacy of gothic motifs, his two films' darker take on Batman and the Joker are echoed in Christopher Nolan's Bat-blockbusters.

MTV spoke with the "9" producer ahead of his appearance at this year's Comic-Con in San Diego about his time with the franchise and his take on cinematic superheroes -- namely, Nolan's acclaimed "Batman Begins" and "The Dark Knight."

"These [movies] are great. When I got involved with [the Batman franchise] many years ago things were ripe for a different interpretation," Burton told MTV News. "When you look at character novels and [regenerated characters], they're such strong things that they can take reinvention." Read more...
