After last weekend's flood of "Green Hornet" casting news and updates, could an announcement regarding the new Kato be next on the schedule?
According to The Korea Times, actor Kwon Sang-woo recently passed an English audition for the role of the title character's sidekick -- an audition that was attended by the film's star and writer Seth Rogen and director Michel Gondry. The report goes on to say that a final announcement regarding the role will be made within the next month.
While Kwon is an unknown property in the US, the actor has already established himself as a hot star in Korea. Prior to embarking on a career in acting, he was a successful model contracted to be the face (and abs) of various marketing campaigns. Read more...

If you were at Comic-Con this past weekend, you may have seen the dazzling “Iron Man 2” footage that included War Machine in battle and that iconic red-and-yellow suit soaring through the sky while dodging explosions.
It sure was impressive work from Jon Favreau, a man who came up in indie films like “Swingers” and “Made,” and not too long ago raised geek concerns with his appointment since the only big-budget film he’d ever made was “Zathura.” Recently, we caught up with the director on the set of “Iron Man 2,” and he was eager to talk about how much the first film had taught him about blending the two worlds. It's been far too long since Megan Fox appeared on the site here (five whole days!), so it's about time we heard from the "Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen" and "Jonah Hex" actress. During a recent press event for her upcoming horror film "Jennifer's Body," Fox offered an update on the other comic book movie she's attached to star in: an adaptation of Michael Turner's "Fathom" series.
"They just wrote the first draft of the script, and everybody's really happy with it," Fox told MTV News. "I haven't read it yet, but the studio's really happy with it and there's growing excitement around the project." Read more...

With a duo of high-quality actors zeroing in on "Red," the Bruce Willis-starring comic book adaptation, it was only a matter of time before the film snagged a director -- and with this particular director, time is a tricky thing.
The Hollywood Reporter notes that filmmaker Robert Schwentke is in negotiations to helm "Red" for Summit Entertainment. Schwentke's most recent directorial effort comes in the form of "The Time Traveler's Wife," an adaptation of the science-fiction romance novel starring Eric Bana and Rachel McAdams.
In addition to having worked with comic book movie veterans -- Bana was once the Hulk, mind you -- Schwentke's involvement in "Red" isn't as unnatural as you might think. The DC/Wildstorm adaptation has a heavy thriller vibe, which Schwentke previously tackled in 2005's "Flightplan." Read more...

Tony Stark is Iron Man. Comic book fans have known this since the character made his debut in 1963, but at the close of last year's blockbuster movie, the hero's secret identity became public knowledge in the film's fictional universe, too. So, where do you go from there?
"Now, the exciting action of the sequel is asking: 'What does that really mean, to a real person in a real world?' And then we heighten it for our superhero reality," director Jon Favreau said of the first flick's final scene.
During our tour of the "Iron Man 2" set, we visited Stark's "garage" filled with interactive virtual computing environments -- and a Shepard Fairey-style Iron Man poster on the wall. The sequel to last year's hit film finds Stark living an even more outrageous life, juggling the responsibilities of being both a businessman and superhero in the public eye. Read more...

The leader of television's "Torchwood" team appears to have his eye on leading an entirely different set of heroic operatives: The Avengers.
At last weekend's Comic-Con International, "Torchwood" star John Barrowman attended a special panel for "Torchwood: Children of Earth," the recent third miniseries in the BBC franchise. Comics Alliance reports that during a Q&A with the audience, the onscreen Captain Jack told the audience that he'd like to play another popular Captain -- namely, Steve Rogers.
"You know what I want to play? Captain America," Barrowman proclaimed to the wildly receptive crowd, before adding that it "so won't happen." Read more...

Celebrity-created sequential art is always a sensitive subject among serious comic book fans. Many stars, such as “Mayhem” creator Tyrese Gibson candidly address their motivations for entering the medium, while others take a less hands-on approach to addressing audience skepticism. While it’s far too early to tell which route a given star will take, there should be plenty of opportunities to tackle the topic as Jeff Katz's American Original puts comics behind comics with the production of a new line of graphic novels collected under the “Comedy Death Ray” banner.
Announced during San Diego Comic-Con, the line is planned to feature titles by Bob Odenkirk, Sarah Silverman (pictured), Patton Oswalt, B.J. Novak, David Cross, Janeane Garofalo, Paul Scheer and Zach Galifanakis among others. Read more...

Marvel's graphic novel edition of "Pride and Prejudice" won't be the only Jane Austen-based work on comic-store shelves when Tony Lee's new project hits shelves March. Last week at Comic-Con, Del Rey and Random House announced the "Doctor Who" comics writer as their recruit to adapt "Pride and Prejudice and Zombies" to graphic novel form as well. Lee will be taking the assignment very seriously.
"It's a tough adaptation, because even though you think it's great because it's 'Pride and Prejudice' with zombies, but it's still 'Pride and Prejudice,' the writer told MTV News. "It's a very deep book full of scenes with women discussing marriage." Read more...

Next month's "G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra" movie premier may have some fans awaiting with cautious optimism given its deviations from its source material, but there's one development in Joe canon that should have "G.I. Joe: A Real American Hero" fans interested -- a new comic book series penned by Max Brooks.
IDW has announced that former "Saturday Night Live" scribe and author of zombie survival tome "World War Z" is writing an upcoming five-issue "G.I. Joe" miniseries due out next year. Read more...

You'll have to pardon the tremor in our regular features over the last week, folks -- there was this little thing called Comic-Con happening in San Diego that threw us off our normal routine. Here's hoping the ridiculous amount of Comic-Con coverage we sent your way more than makes up for the shuffled schedule.
To that end, the results from last week's poll seem like a good place to get back on track. We asked readers to vote on the comic book movie they were most looking forward to hearing about during the big show, and the results were, well... less than surprising. Read more...
