Astro BoyFootage (and new casting announcements) from "Astro Boy" wowed audiences during Comic-Con, and now Summit Entertainment has released six new images from the CGI adaptation of Osamu Tezuka's massively popular manga.

The film tells the story of a scientist, Dr. Tenma (voiced by Nicolas Cage) who replaces his lost son with a powerful robot (Freddie Highmore), who must then come to terms with his own identity as a child, a robot and, most importantly, a hero. Along with Cage, actors Donald Sutherland and Bill Nighy also voiced characters in the film, and today we have our first look at all of their characters in the new images -- as well as a few more shots from the much-anticipated film. Tim BurtonAmong comic book movie fans (and movie fans in general) Tim Burton doesn't really need any introduction. The director of 1989's "Batman" practically invented the "dark superhero" trend in Hollywood, and has gone on to have a creative hand in some of the most entertaining, unique films to hit the big screen.

One of those films is the upcoming post-apocalyptic ragdoll adventure "9," directed by Shane Acker and co-produced by Burton and "Wanted" and "Wanted 2" director Timur Bekmambetov. We're talking to Burton on Thursday, and we'd love to incorporate questions from Splash Page readers in our interview with the celebrated filmmaker.

[UPDATE: Thanks for sending your questions! The period for submitting questions is now over. Our interview with Burton will be posted soon!] If you have questions for Tim Burton, send them to tips@mtvmoviesblog.com before Thursday (July 30) morning. Questions about "9" are encouraged, but feel free to ask about any of his other films, too!

The Secret of NimhFROM MOVIES BLOG: One of my weirdest obsessions as a wee lass was Don Bluth's 1982 animated film "The Secret of NIMH." I must have watched it dozens of times on television and was impressed enough by its humble rodent cast to read the book it was based on. If you've never seen it -- or read Robert C. O'Brien's book, "Mrs. Frisby and the Rats of NIMH" -- you should.

"NIMH" is the story of a widowed field mouse named Mrs. Frisby (renamed Mrs. Brisby in the film) who is faced with an enormous problem for such a fragile little animal. She has a sick child who she must evacuate from their home in a farmer's field before its plowed. To do so, she needs the help of a group of highly evolved field rats who live nearby. When she enlists their assistance, she discovers that they need her just as much as she needs them.

VillainsLook at the Joker, Lex Luthor, Adrian Veidt: sometimes being a bad guy is just more fun. That’s certainly the belief of the main character in the Viper Comics miniseries “Villains,” who decides he wants to learn the dark art of villainy after discovering the old guy living next door is actually a retired baddie.

Universal is giving the series the big-screen adaptation treatment and producers are conceiving the film as a big-budget, super-dark adventure directed by someone with a sensibility similar to the men who’ve helmed “Fight Club” and “Collateral.”

“I think we want to go big with it,” producer Sean Bailey told MTV News. “My personal ambition is to have it be operatic and epic. If Michael Mann or David Fincher were ever to go make one of these movies, what would that look like? That’s my hope for it. To be in that kind of world.” Read More...

Jennifer Love HewittWorking with former "Party of Five" producer and comic book writer Allan Heinberg must have planted a creative seed in Jennifer Love Hewitt's head. The "Ghost Whisperer" star, who already appeared in a line of comics based on her CBS TV series character, now has a comic of her own launching in the fall from "Doctor Who" and "G.I. Joe" publisher IDW.

Her new ten-issue series "The Music Box" will be a sequence of horror stories surrounding an old-fashioned device with an ugly history.

“The chance to create my very own comic, and a horror/thriller at that, is like a very fun nightmare come true," said Hewitt. "I've always been fascinated by the notion that an inanimate object can hold as much malevolent energy as a human being can. And when they two meet, or are at cross purposes, very bad things can happen." Read More...

ConanDark Horse expanded the Robert E. Howard wing of their publishing catalog this week with the announcement that they will publish comics based on upcoming films from Paradox Entertainment. Paradox's slate of films featuring characters by the fantasy author include the "Conan the Barbarian" relaunch, now being directed by Marcus Nispel instead of Brett Ratner, and this October's "Solomon Kane."

With Dark Horse's considerable history publishing Conan, Kull the Conqueror, and Solomon Kane comics, the partnership comes as little surprise. Read More...

Warren EllisAuthor Warren Ellis already has a long list of brilliant, fan-favorite comic book series, animated series, optioned properties and even a novel under his belt, so it's no surprise the "Transmetropolitan" writer is currently working on the film treatment for a project that should have more than just comic book fans taking note.

Ellis announced on his website yesterday that he's currently scripting a treatment for an untitled project involving Arthurian legend and the Knights of the Round Table. The project will be produced by Hollywood Gang, who previously co-produced "300" and optioned Ellis' graphic novel "Ocean" with Chris Sprouse. According to Ellis, they're currently calling the project "Excalibur," despite his reservations about tying the film to the 1981 John Boorman epic. Read More...

WolverineIt seems like just yesterday we were reporting the box office success of "X-Men Origins: Wolverine," and now we have news that the solo debut of Hugh Jackman's favorite comic book character will be hitting DVD and Blu-Ray in a few months.

Arriving on shelves September 15, "Wolverine" will be released in Blu-Ray, Special Edition DVD (2 discs) and standard DVD, along with a variety of special features on all formats. While the film received mixed reviews from audiences, there's no denying that it overcame some significant obstacles (including a highly publicized leak of an early version of the film) on its way to becoming the top-grossing comic book movie of the year. (And then there's the matter of that "Deadpool" solo movie it spawned, too1)

After the jump, I've posted all the specs for the various "X-Men Origins: Wolverine" formats hitting shelves. Read More...

Scott PilgrimGiven the fascination with video games for both "Scott Pilgrim" creator Bryan Lee O'Malley and the title character of his massively popular series, it seems like a natural that the project make the jump to gaming -- and that's exactly what it's going to do.

The news leaked out during this weekend's Comic-Con in San Diego, but details are still pretty slim regarding the "Scott Pilgrim" game. What is known, however, is that the game is being developed by Ubisoft Montreal (the same company who developed the "TMNT" tie-in games for the 2007 film) and it will be released alongside Edgar Wright's "Scott Pilgrim Vs. the World" movie.

Along with following all six volumes of the book, the game will unfold in a side-scroller environment. What platforms it will be released for -- and whether it will be a disc-based game or of the downloadable variety (a la "Watchmen: The End Is Nigh") is still unknown.

Keep it locked to Splash Page for more details as news develops.

Looking forward to playing the "Scott Pilgrim Vs. the World" game?

So far, we've learned from the "Iron Man 2" cast that War Machine will make a significant appearance, Black Widow could be good or evil, and Sam Rockwell will be reinventing the character of Justin Hammer. Director Jon Favreau weighed in as well at Comic-Con with his own details on the film, stating that the sequel won't leave an open-ended cliffhanger for Marvel's 2012 "Avengers" movie.

"We're working towards 'Avengers,' but by the same token we want to resolve this film and make ['Iron Man 2'] play on its own," Favreau told MTV News. "It's not a serial. It's a self-contained film." Read More...
