As one of the most light-hearted and action-packed incarnations of Batman in recent memory, Cartoon Network's "Batman: The Brave and the Bold" often draws comparisons to Adam West's campy "Batman" series from the swinging '60s. Now the man who out-surfed the Joker could be returning to his costumed roots for the series' second season.
According to Collider, an unnamed creator from the show broke the news during an interview at last month's San Diego Comic-Con.
“Julie Newmar is playing Martha Wayne, and playing Bruce’s father, Thomas Wayne, will be Adam West! I think they’re very appropriate parents for Batman…" said the anonymous creator, "I should probably not be revealing this.”
If the cat is truly out of the bag, it would mean a more matrimonial relationship for Newmar, one of three actresses to portray Catwoman, and West, whose rival "Batman" roles sparked a forbidden passion.
Voice actor speculation aside, show producer James Tucker did confirm the plot of the episode, which will adapt at least a portion of the 1980 "The Untold Legend of Batman" miniseries, specifically the tale of how Batman's father Thomas Wayne once fought mobsters at a Halloween party ironically dressed as a bat.
If the rumor comes to fruition, it certainly wouldn't be the first time West has seen a recording booth, having spent most of the past decade parodying himself on "Family Guy" as the mayor of Quahog.
Of course, this appearance would potentially represent the closest role to Batman that West has played since his series' cancellation more than 40 years ago.
