When Tony Stark soars onto screens in next year's "Iron Man 2," he'll have to contend with Mickey Rourke's fierce Russian weapons-maker Whiplash. But as tough as he is, there's no question that Stark's Mark III armor is significantly more souped up than what we've seen of Rourke's whip-clad prison rags... but what if we haven't seen the full extent of Whiplash's armor?
A clue could lie in Marvel's upcoming "Iron Man Vs. Whiplash" comic book, a four-issue miniseries announced on Marvel.com that sees the "Iron Man 2" villain pitted against the heroic Tony Stark. The series is written by Marc Guggenheim and Brannon Bragga with art from Phil Briones, but it's the Whiplash character design from Marko Djurdjevic that could foretell the villain's eventual appearance in "Iron Man 2."

Djurdjevic's version of Whiplash clearly has the same illuminated whips and long hair of Mickey Rourke's on-screen interpretation, but the armor is a major upgrade for Iron Man's nemesis. Wearing what looks to be a scrapped together version of Tony's Mark II armor (even though that's supposedly the base for the War Machine suit) and a mask akin to Vega's in "Street Fighter," this Whiplash looks much more battle ready than his live-action counterpart.
The miniseries is being touted as a refresher course on all things Whiplash before "Iron Man 2" hits theaters. Editor Bill Rosemann describes the series as "every True Believer's chance to crawl inside the twisted head of the wicked Whiplash."
So, is the "Iron Man vs. Whiplash" miniseries just a loose interpretation of the character, or is this an attempt to get fans up to speed with what Whiplash will finally look like on the big screen? Time will tell, but if this is Rourke's eventual outfit, maybe some Splash Page readers will be a little less skeptical towards the character.

Do you think this version of Whiplash will be seen in "Iron Man 2," or perhaps something to this effect? If so, what are your thoughts on the armor? Let us know in the comments!
