Green LanternRyan Reynolds, already causing controversy by starring in different superhero projects from Marvel Comics and DC Comics, is going to need a lot more than a power ring to combat his deadliest foe yet: the global economy.

Inside Film reports that production on "Green Lantern," the Reynolds-headlining superhero film from Warner Bros. and DC Comics, is currently in jeopardy due to the financial climate in Australia, where the film is currently pegged to shoot. Read More...

Batman - Adam WestWhether in live-action roles or animated iterations, a multitude of actors have donned Batman's cape and cowl over the years. With today's release of "Batman: Arkham Asylum," I thought it would be fitting to devote this week's poll to The Dark Knight and ask readers which incarnation of the DC hero they prefer above all others—and where they stand in the great Batman debate.

Does Christian Bale's growl make a better Batman than Michael Keaton's "crazy-eyed" glare? Does the combination of Kevin Conroy's voice and Paul Dini's scripts push the star of "Batman: The Animated Series" to the top of your list? Heck, maybe your favorite Batman is the savior of "Arkham Asylum" these days.

Well, now's your chance to vote up your favorite Dark Knight, folks. Read More...

Rob Zombie's "Halloween II" hits theaters August 28, and with the multi-talented creator serving as Guest Editor over on MTV Movies Blog, we couldn't help but pick his brain about comics, too. Given his decision to publish "The Haunted World of El Superbeasto" as a comic prior to its big-screen release, we know he's a comic fan—but what's on his subscription list these days?

We asked Zombie that very question during a recent shoot in—of all places—New York City's Abracadabra Magic & Costumes shop. While he confessed to not being up on current comics, he did recommend some work by one of his favorite creators.

"I would go back and read anything that Jack Kirby drew," Zombie told MTV News. "As a kid, I took Jack Kirby for granted, because he did so many comics and pumped out so much work." Read More...

Twitter - Scott PilgrimWhen you're a writer with as much clout as Brian Michael Bendis, life offers you certain occasional luxuries—like bicycle valets! Meanwhile, creators Andy Diggle and Brian Keene discussed what's in their word processors right now, and "Scott Pilgrim vs. the World" creator Bryan Lee O'Malley shared his new poster for the upcoming Penny Arcade Expo.

Elsewhere, a certain comics writer seems to have the Twitter Report in his sights, according to a message he sent Splash Page editor Rick Marshall last night. Click on through to find out who it was, as well as a Green Lantern sketch by Jill Thompson, a "Batman and Robin" opinion from Paul Pope and birthday wishes to a favorite writer of mine, Mr. Anthony Johnston of "Wasteland" fame.

It's all in the Twitter Report for August 25, 2009. Read More...

The Pekar ProjectPerhaps not as well-known as Superman—and certainly not as chiseled as the Man of Steel, either—"American Splendor" creator Harvey Pekar is nonetheless a comic book legend. The autobiographical "Splendor," which details Pekar's musings on life's everyday occurrences, has already crossed over into theaters in the form of a 2003 Paul Giamatti-starring film. Now, Pekar is trying out a whole new medium: the Internet.

Harvey Pekar and Smith Magazine are teaming up for "The Pekar Project," an all-new ongoing webcomic series written by Pekar and illustrated by artists Tara Seibel, Joseph Remnant, Rick Parker and Sean Pryor. The series will be edited by Jeff Newelt. Read More...

Wanted - Angelina Jolie"Wanted" director Timur Bekmambetov has made no secret of his desire to bring Angelina Jolie back for the sequel to last year's hit film based loosely on the comic book series by Mark Millar and J.G. Jones. However, her character's final scene in the film made such a return unlikely—if not impossible.

While Jolie previously told MTV News she didn't think her character, Fox, would be making a comeback for "Wanted 2," it's worth noting that this is still the world of comic books—and as all fans know, no character stays away very long in comics. In fact, when we spoke to Bekmambetov recently, he not only reiterated his plans to bring Jolie's character back, but he said they already have a plan for how it's going to happen.

Batman: Arkham AsylumThe waiting is finally over, folks. "Batman: Arkham Asylum" hits shelves today, giving you the chance to discover for yourselves why I've been raving about the game for so long.

MTV's gaming editor, Russ Frushtick, has already declared it an early favorite for "Game of the Year," and as I mentioned in my own review of "Batman: Arkham Asylum," his praise for the game is certainly well-deserved.

Just in case you missed some of our recent assessments of "Arkham," here's a quick roundup of what we've been saying around MTV HQ about Batman's latest video game adventure: Read More...

Hancock 2Just last week, "Hancock" director Peter Berg spoke about the prospects of a sequel to the Will Smith-starring superhero film, saying that such a project would need to have the right script before he could give it any serious thought. As it turns out, the right script is closer to reality than one might have guessed.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, "Hancock 2" has nabbed a pair of screenwriters in Adam Fierro and Glen Mazzara. Fierro and Mazzara are mostly known for their television writing, previously collaborating on FX's "The Shield" and writing independently for Fox's "24" and NBC's "Life," respectively.

"Hancock 2" is the first major motion picture for Fierro, while Mazzara has turned in a screenplay for the unproduced "Hater." Read More...

Family GuyEven with Hollywood's traditional superhero summer season winding down, comic fans can expect plenty of nods to their genres of choice this fall with Fox's flagship animated series "The Simpsons" and "Family Guy" both sporting familiar themes in their respective September season premieres.

"The Simpsons" 21st season premiere, titled "Homer The Whopper," features the one-two punch of a guest appearance and co-writing credits from Seth Rogen. The upcoming "The Green Hornet" star will reportedly project his personal experiences training for a heroic role onto Homer as celebrity fitness trainer Lyle McCarthy, hired to whip Homer into shape for the role of "Everyman," a film adaptation based on Comic Book Guy's latest superhero creation. Batman: Widening GyreIt's another hefty week for comics, with some great options from the world of crossover comics properties. From Dark Knights to Green Goliaths and everywhere between, here's a breakdown of what's on my list this week:

"BATMAN: THE WIDENING GYRE" #1 (DC): Back in May, Kevin Smith told Splash Page that this could be the last Batman story he ever writes—which should be reason enough to pick it up. Having previously authored "Batman: Cacophony" (which featured my favorite new villain, Onomatopoeia, created by Smith during his "Green Arrow" run), Smith promises to introduce a brand new character in "Widening Gyre," which he's writing alongside his frequent collaborator in both comics and film, artist/actor Walt Flanagan.

With the combined comics cred of Smith and Flanagan and a new character in the wings, this one's a can't-miss pickup for readers this week. Read More...
