When Kevin Smith dropped by Splash Page HQ this week to talk about his new book, "Shootin' The Sh*t With Kevin Smith: The Best of the SModcast," it was only natural that we pick his brain about some of the comics-related projects on his plate these days—including, of course, his current DC series "Batman: The Widening Gyre."

Previously, Smith told us he'll be introducing a brand new character to the DC universe in "Gyre." While this character made a brief appearance in the series' first issue, the second issue arrives on shelves today with more info about Gotham's mysterious new vigilante. Check out the following video for Smith's thoughts about the character and the series, and consider this your SPOILER ALERT!

"Issue 2, that's where you finally meet our character, the character that me and ['Gyre' artist] Walter Flanagan came up with," Smith told MTV News. "His name is Baphomet. I don't think you learn that until issue 3, but f--- it. I spoiled it." Read more...

RoopsterBluewater Productions has churned out plenty of comic books about familiar faces, with plans in the works for Michael Jackson and "Twilight" author Stephanie Meyer biography comics. But it's not an exclusively human party at Bluewater, as evidenced by a one particular rooster.

MTV News has the first look at "The Adventures of Roopster Roux," Bluewater's upcoming graphic novel adaptation of the popular children's book and audio series. Comedian Steve Harvey, best known as one of the Original Kings of Comedy, will lend his likeness as the comic book's narrator, a duty he performs with the books and audio tapes. Read more...

Beasts of BurdenTHE STORY: "Beasts of Burden" by Evan Dorkin (W) and Jill Thompson (A) – Dark Horse Comics

WHAT IT'S ABOUT: Something's not quite right in Burden Hill. The picturesque American suburb is plagued by haunted dog houses, zombie road kill and far too many black cats. With their "people" distracted by the monotony of day-to-day life, it's up to a hodgepodge of neighborhood dogs (and one reluctant cat) to protect their community from supernatural threats.

Under the guidance of an aging society of "Wise Dogs," canines with abilities beyond those of average pets, the beasts begin to take matters into their own paws. Read more...

Yesterday, I gave you the full breakdown on the "Justice League: Crisis On Two Earths" featurette that appeared on the DVD for DC's "Superman/Batman: Public Enemies" animated movie. Not only did we get our first look at Ultraman, Power Ring and the rest of the JLA's alternate-universe counterparts, The Crime Syndicate, but we also found out about the origins of the next animated feature from the DC Universe.

However, since my recap and the shoddy-at-best images I posted only go so far, here's an exclusive video preview of "Crisis On Two Earths," courtesy of the good folks at DC and Warner Bros. Premiere. I'm pretty sure you'll agree that it's even better than I described it—and that James Woods makes a pretty terrifying Owlman.

So, tell me, folks—was that Justice League Detroit we caught a glimpse of there? Read on for the full specs on "Justice League: Crisis On Two Earths," scheduled to arrive on shelves Spring 2010. Read more...

Twitter - Doctor WhoDid you get your sonic screwdriver all lit up this week because you heard Neil Gaiman would be writing episode 10 in the next season of "Doctor Who"? Well, put it away because according to his Twitter account, that's not going to be happening. (It's a nice thought, though.)

Elsewhere, micro-reviews are trickling in for "Superman/Batman: Public Enemies," at it appears to have Scott Kurtz', approval, which isn't necessarily easy to acquire. (Oh, and here's Splash Page editor @RickMarshall's review of "Superman/Batman: Public Enemies"—just in case you missed it yesterday.) Both of those are in the mix today, along with a picture of Christpher Mintz-Plasse's quality family time with "Wanted," Bryan Lee O'Malley's comics vocabulary recommendations and Chuck BB's David Bowie postcard from Andy MacDonald.

I'm @brianwarmoth, and this is the Twitter Report for September 30, 2009. Read more...

Edward James OlmosBack in August fans learned that "Battlestar Galactica's" Edward James Olmos had joined the ranks of Seth Rogen, Cameron Diaz, Jay Chou and Christoph Waltz to star in Michel Gondry's "The Green Hornet." One question remained, however. Just what kind of role would the sometime William Adama be taking on?

In an interview with the Los Angeles Times, Olmos revealed he'd be playing Michael Axford, a reporter for the Daily Sentinel, the newspaper run by protagonist Britt Reid's father James. Read more...

FROM MOVIES BLOG: This week, fans get to celebrate almost a century of "The Wizard of Oz" with a 70th Anniversary DVD/Blu-ray release of the 1939 film. It's fitting then that we have some exclusive new information to share with you on the screen adaptation of Todd McFarlane's "The Twisted Land of Oz" toy line.

MTV Splash Page editor Rick Marshall spoke to the man himself recently, and he was more than happy to delve into the project's genesis, some basic story elements and what the future holds. There's new stuff in here, things you haven't heard yet. The short version: this ain't your granddaddy's "Wizard of Oz." "Spawn" creator McFarlane has some dark ideas kicking around in his head, and they mesh very well with the inherently creepy qualities of "Oz."

For more of Todd McFarlane's plans for a new "Oz" movie, head over to MoviesBlog.MTV.com.

Cam GigandetOne thing I’ve noticed over the course of my life is that chicks dig dudes on motorcycles; one thing I’ve noticed over the last year or so is that chicks also dig Cam Gigandet. So, if the team behind the currently-shooting “Priest” adaptation are concerned about attracting the female demographic, some info I got recently from Cam makes me think they have no need to worry.

“Right now I’m shooting a movie with Paul Bettany that’s called ‘Priest,’ which is going to be an unbelievable film,” he explained when he stopped by the MTV studio last week. “The sets are just unbelievable—and we ride around on motorcycles.”

With any luck, Gigandet joked, not only will he and Bettany look cool as they channel their inner Wild Hogs, but they’ll also look like they know what they’re doing. Read more...

Green LanternBy Blair Marnell

The “Green Lantern” feature film may soon be moving its beleaguered production to Mexico; which would negate the previously rumored shift to Louisiana.

According to Inside Film, the decision hasn’t been finalized yet. But if the production were to remain in Australia, it would cost an additional $20 million to make.

The site quotes an anonymous source allegedly connected with the studio as saying, “We still haven’t given up on ‘Green Lantern,' but the way the exchange rate is going up it’s looking more and more unlikely.” Read more...

The Walking DeadWhen it was announced last month that "The Walking Dead," Robert Kirkman's long-running comic book series about life after the zombie invasion, would be adapted as an AMC television series directed by Frank Darabont ("The Shawshank Redemption," "The Mist"), it's safe to say that everyone was surprised by the news. Why? Because it was one of the most forehead-slappingly appropriate matches of a filmmaker to a comic book property in, well... I'm hard-pressed to think of any filmmaker/comic pairing that tops it.

I caught up with Kirkman recently to chat about the "Walking Dead" television deal, and the hardworking writer shared some details about why he's just as pleased with the pairing as the rest of us, and what we can expect when "The Walking Dead" and its host of zombies shamble onto TV screens.
