Rainn Wilson has already met the people behind the comics at DC. Now, it looks like he'll have a chance to leave his own mark on crime-fighting characters. Wilson will re-unite with his "Juno" co-star Ellen Page for a new superhero comedy from "Slither" writer and director James Gunn at the end of the year. The new film, simply titled "Super," will assemble the "Office" and "X-Men: The Last Stand" actors with Liv Tyler to take a stab at comedy centered around the spandex-and-capes genre.
"Super" will begin production in December, according to Variety. Gunn will reportedly direct his own script for the movie under the production company This is That, which most recently put out "Adventureland."
In the story, Wilson's character adopts a pseudo-superhero alter ego and dubs himself the Crimson Bolt. Though he lacks any real powers, he picks up a wrench as his primary means of distributing justice.
Wilson has already been a rocker and a slimy office co-worker, so this should round out his résumé nicely. Just what Page and Tyler will be doing in the film remains to be seen, but the cast for "Super" certainly has plenty of geek-friendly cred.
The character sounds like it would have been a good fit in "Mystery Men." We'll have to wait and see whether his costume design swings more toward that of The Shoveler or if Gunn goes for a sleeker "Kick-Ass"-style wardrobe.
