Despite his potential future role as leader of Marvel's merry mutants the X-Men, young Cyclops Tim Pocock isn't calling the shots just yet. The rumors fueled by Pocock's seemingly telling post on Twitter about a 2010 "X-Men: First Class" shooting schedule last week have since been retracted by the "X-Men Origins: Wolverine" star and one of the leading forces behind all things "X" now says 20th Century Fox has something entirely new in mind for the franchise.
Slashfilm caught up with Lauren Shuler Donner at a press event for the UK release of "Origins" and asked the longtime X-Men producer if there were any claws to Pocock's comment that he was, "Currently shooting Australian TV series till February 2010...then X-men first class," which she refuted.
Shuler Donner reportedly denied such a project was moving forward, telling reporters that the project won't be filming anytime soon and that no actors have signed to star, although the young mutants from "Origins" had been optioned for potential further movie roles.
Even though the case seems closed on a "First Class" film for now, Shuler Donner did apparently dish on Fox's immediate, if yet-to-be-pitched film slate – namely an "X4" sequel and the possibility of a cinematic take on "The New Mutants," an adaptation of the first ever X-Men comic book offshoot.
Noticeably absent from the conversation were mentions of either the Ryan Reynolds "Deadpool spinoff" or a potential "X-Men Origins: Magneto" film, but the projects certainly weren't denied either, meaning fans still have plenty to keep an eye on.
Are you up for an "X4?" Would you prefer the franchise be taken in a "New Mutants" direction or is a "First Class" adaptation in order? Pop your claws in the comments, bubs.
