The world of Asgard just got a little bigger in the form of actors Jaimie Alexander and Colm Feore signing up for the big screen adaptation of "Thor" from Marvel Studios.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Feore and Alexander are joining the likes of Chris Hemsworth, Tom Hiddleston and Natalie Portman in "Thor." Alexander will play Sif, a "skilled Asgardian warrior who can hold her own against any man" and also a lover of Thor's.
Feore, meanwhile, is slated to play an as-yet-named villain. No matter which villain Feore winds up playing, he's sure to have a menacing presence—just check out the telemovie "The Storm of the Century" for one of the creepiest performances ever captured on film.
Still, it's worth pondering who Feore could play. One might automatically assume that Loki is ruled out, but I'm not as convinced—there could be some sort of bait-and-switch at play between Hiddleston and Feore, not unlike Liam Neeson's surprise portrayal of Ra's al Ghul in "Batman Begins." Frankly, Feore would make for a terrific, older Loki.
There are plenty of other villains that Feore could assume, but given the secrecy of his character, one might guess that he'll have a connective role between "Thor" and the other Marvel Studios films. How cool would it be if Feore simply had a cameo as the Red Skull paving the way for the following summer's "The First Avenger: Captain America"? He'd be absolutely perfect for that role.
Until we've gotten official word from Marvel Studios—or, just as likely, until the film itself hits theaters—we'll be in the dark on Feore's character. Either way, it's exciting to see "Thor" bolster up its acting force.
What do you think of the casting of Feore and Alexander? What villain should Feore play?
