Platinum Studios certainly has its hands full -- in addition to the Robert Downey Jr.-starring, Jon Favreau-directed "Cowboys and Aliens" adaptation and the Brandon Routh-headlining "Dead of Night," Platinum is planning on bringing yet another comic book franchise to life.
Variety reports that "Mal Chance" is developing in conjunction with Platinum Studios CEO Scott Mitchell Rosenberg and producer Tony Krantz, best known for his work on "24" and "Mulholland Drive." Scott Murphy will adapt "Mal Chance" for the big screen.
Written by Martin Pardo with art by David Morancho, "Mal Chance" focuses on a deadly female assassin named Lola, also known as the legendary Red Mantis. She is the most prized killer for a powerful Chinatown gangster, but is soon in the crosshairs thanks to her own boss. In order to seek vengeance upon her betrayer and his compatriots, Lola must team up with Dennis, a junior FBI agent that she inadvertently falls in love with.
According to producer Krantz, "Mal Chance" is a "wonderfully visual world steeped with contemporary and complex characters, all playing on the edge of life and death decisions."
Given Krantz's prior experience on the high-octane Fox series "24," the action-packed "Mal Chance" seems to be in good hands. While Krantz isn't currently mentioned as the film's director, there's always the chance that he could step behind the lens given his upcoming work on "The Big Bang" starring Antonio Banderas and Clifton Collins Jr.
