From a cabaret revival in California to a Broadway stage in New York City, actor Alan Cumming has a full schedule in the coming months as he prepares to play the villainous Green Goblin in the Marvel Comics musical "Spider-Man: Turn Off The Dark."
Yesterday in an interview with the Los Angeles Times Cumming verified reports from earlier this month that the musical is indeed back on track.
Cumming is set to star alongside Evan Rachel Wood in her Mary Jane Watson role when "Turn Off The Dark" reportedly premieres in February of 2010, although no further casting announcements have been made.
Cumming also related his shared concern with fans when the musical was put on hiatus over the summer after it reportedly ran out of money, a problem that stirred up its share of curriosity given the production's rumored $40 million price tag.
"How can you run out of money? You don't imagine that happening with a huge blockbuster like this. It was all very shocking, but I suppose it all adds to the legend of the show," said Cumming.
Despite the production's drama off-stage, Cumming is apparently a big fan of Bono and the Edge's music and lyrics as well as Julie Taymor and Glen Berger's book – even if the super hero subject matter isn't the most serious thing on Broadway.
"It's a really good script," Cumming said. "It's potentially huge cheese, and it's really kind of not cheese at all."
