Christoph Waltz"Inglourious Basterds" actor Christoph Waltz, whose role as a Nazi in Quentin Tarantino's violent World War II-era film is expected to earn him an Oscar nod, is being rumored for part of the chief villain in Seth Rogen and Michel Gondry's "Green Hornet"—a role Nicolas Cage left behind just last week.

According to Deadline Hollywood, Waltz has been cast as Chudnofsky, the gangster who goes up against Green Hornet and his partner, Kato.

Back in July, Rogen described the character to MTV News as "scary," but "not over-the-top." Read More...

Twitter - VMAsKanye West was the talk of Twitter last night at the VMAs for his un-prompted interruption of Taylor Swift's acceptance speech, and some of comics' biggest names were among those sounding off. If you're interested in a quick rundown of what Mark Waid, Brian Michael Bendis and several others posted. Look no further than the Twitter Report.

And even if you're not, you can still read on to find out which writer is scheduling his week around the release of "Marvel: Ultimate Alliance 2," what happened after Phil Hester announced he was open to reading other people's scripts and which new projects Steve Niles is excited about.

It's all in the Twitter Report for September 14, 2009. Read More...

Chris EvansWith prominent roles in the "Fantastic Four" films, "The Losers," and Edgar Wright's upcoming adaptation of Bryan Lee O'Malley's "Scott Pilgrim" series, Chris Evans has quickly established himself as one of the more comics-friendly actors in the biz these days. However, with the lackluster performance of 2007's "Fantastic Four 2," the studio recently opted to go the reboot route for the next film about Marvel's first family of superheroes.

So, the question now becomes: Will we see Evans reprise his pitch-perfect performance as Johnny Storm?

"I don't think I'm going to be involved in it," Evans told Cinematical. "I would imagine a reboot would be—a reboot!" Read More...

Jeffrey Dean MorganWith Guy Ritchie announced as the director for "Lobo," it's only a matter of time before the main man himself gets cast. I've already listed some of my suggestions for who should play Lobo, but there's another actor that's vying for the role—and despite his former status as a Comedian, his designs on the last Czarnian are hardly a joke.

Jeffrey Dean Morgan of "Watchmen" and "The Losers" wants to add "Lobo" to his ever-growing list of comic book characters. The actor spoke with Superhero Hype about his desire to play the DC Comics antihero in Guy Ritchie's upcoming adaptation.

"[They're] making 'Lobo' right now," said Morgan. "That would be cool. 'Lobo' would be very cool. I don't think that I'm as big as Lobo is, but if you could, like, transplant Mickey Rourke's body on my head, that would be just great." Read More...

Julian SandsDespite the show's title, "Smallville" is anything but small. In fact, the number of DC characters making leaps from the paneled page to the CW television series is continually getting bigger, with perhaps one of the more important characters finally arriving in Clark Kent's neck of the woods.

According to EW.com, actor Julian Sands has been cast to play Jor-El in the upcoming ninth season of "Smallville."

Sands is expected to make his debut as Clark's biological father in the November-debuting episode "Kandor," which reveals Jor-El's ties with the menacing General Zod—a character first made famous in "Superman: The Movie." Read More...

Superman[UPDATE: Video from this interview and a response to concerns raised by Mark Millar about the quotes have now been posted. -RM]

Now that Warner Bros. has a mandate to produce a new Superman film by 2011, speculation goes in several directions anticipating what form Kal-El will take. "Kick-Ass" and "Wanted" creator Mark Millar notably pitched an epic take on the Last Son of Krypton, which subsequently received little interest from WB.

However, even though he still harbors a deep love for the Man of Steel, Millar now says he expects his trilogy-long Superman tale to remain in stasis despite WB's renewed mission.

"I don't think they could afford me now," Millar told MTV News. "I'll stick with Marvel." Read More...

Bruce CampbellLast we heard regarding Bruce Campbell and "Spider-Man 4," director Sam Raimi was not only hoping the "Evil Dead" actor would return for yet another cameo, but was also trying to figure out where to fit the fan-favorite actor in the next film.

According to a report on Access Hollywood, it sounds like Campbell is not only returning for the next "Spider-Man" movie, but Raimi has found him a big role in the much-anticipated sequel.

"In the next installment in the superhero franchise, [Campbell] has been told he has a major part – but didn’t yet know anything about his character," reported the site. Read More...

DC EntertainmentIt's been another week of big announcements in the comics biz, and with the 2009 VMAs practically on our doorstep, it's hard to imagine a more hectic week. Nevertheless, here's how the week looked as far as the top stories and buzz-generators from around Splash Page HQ:

10. My one-on-one interview with new DC Entertainment chief Diane Nelson yielded some interesting hints about where the company is looking for future projects, and what fans can expect from the new environment at Warner Brothers.

True BloodThis weekend, the HBO vampire series "True Blood" wraps up its second season, but don't expect the bloodsuckers to stay dead for too long—not only will this year's ratings ensure a third season for "True Blood," but many of the cast members will be popping up in other places outside of Bon Temps, Louisiana.

One such place, believe it or not, is the comic book world—whether in a film adaptation or in the paneled pages themselves, these five "True Blood" regulars all have a connection to comics.

ANNA PAQUIN: Currently, actress Anna Paquin is best known as the telepathic Sookie Stackhouse on "True Blood," but comic book fans know her for a different role: the power-absorbing mutant Rogue in the "X-Men" franchise.

Although her character hasn't been seen since "X-Men: The Last Stand," Paquin has expressed interest in returning to the franchise, assuming she gets a little more butt to kick, that is. Read More...

Rainn WilsonRainn Wilson has already met the people behind the comics at DC. Now, it looks like he'll have a chance to leave his own mark on crime-fighting characters. Wilson will re-unite with his "Juno" co-star Ellen Page for a new superhero comedy from "Slither" writer and director James Gunn at the end of the year. The new film, simply titled "Super," will assemble the "Office" and "X-Men: The Last Stand" actors with Liv Tyler to take a stab at comedy centered around the spandex-and-capes genre.

"Super" will begin production in December, according to Variety. Gunn will reportedly direct his own script for the movie under the production company This is That, which most recently put out "Adventureland."

In the story, Wilson's character adopts a pseudo-superhero alter ego and dubs himself the Crimson Bolt. Though he lacks any real powers, he picks up a wrench as his primary means of distributing justice. Read More...
