FROM MOVIES BLOG: I'm being mocked in the MTV newsroom for my excitement over this news, but I don't care. He-Man is a badass, and not because his alter-ego -- Prince Adam -- is named like my name. That's not the only reason anyway. No. He-Man is a badass because he rides a Battle Cat and talks to his magical sword and still wins the day every time. He was also brought to life by Dolph Lundgren in the first movie adaptation of the Mattel toy line, and you just don't mess with that man.
Don't count on Lundgren coming back for the long-gestating second attempt at an adaptation, which has finally found a home with Sony, according to a report in Variety. Sony is partnered with Escape Artists, with the project being led by producers Todd Black, Jason Blumenthal and Steve Tisch, who intend to start "from scratch."

Much has been made of Todd McFarlane's plans for a new, live-action "Spawn" movie based on the character he created in the early 1990s. Back in May, we brought you the first word on how he plans to bring the character back to the big screen in a much darker, grittier film that puts less emphasis on the supernatural side of Spawn, with McFarlane name-checking Leo DiCaprio ("The Departed") as an actor well-suited to play one of the detectives playing a lead role in the film.
During a recent chat with the ever-busy creator, McFarlane shared a bit more insight into his plans for rebooting "Spawn" in Hollywood, and why we could be looking at a very different Hellspawn if/when the character returns to the big screen.
"The reason I want to go small with it is that it's a completely R-rated movie," said McFarlane. "If I sell it up big, studios want that PG-13." Read more...

Given recent comments from Nicolas Cage about wanting to take the "Ghost Rider" franchise in an entirely new direction, it was all but guaranteed that the 2007 comic book film would get a sequel—but today, it became official.
According to Variety, Columbia Pictures is in early discussions with "Batman Begins" and "Super Max" screenwriter David Goyer to work on the story for "Ghost Rider 2," which would presumably star Nicolas Cage as the motorcycle-riding, flame-headed spirit of vengeance.
Goyer hasn't signed the dotted line on the "Ghost Rider" sequel, but word is that Columbia is already planning to move forward with the project based on an earlier script from the "Blade" writer. Read more...

From a cabaret revival in California to a Broadway stage in New York City, actor Alan Cumming has a full schedule in the coming months as he prepares to play the villainous Green Goblin in the Marvel Comics musical "Spider-Man: Turn Off The Dark."
Yesterday in an interview with the Los Angeles Times Cumming verified reports from earlier this month that the musical is indeed back on track.
Cumming is set to star alongside Evan Rachel Wood in her Mary Jane Watson role when "Turn Off The Dark" reportedly premieres in February of 2010, although no further casting announcements have been made. Read more...

Vampires aren't the only creatures flooding the market right now—zombies are making an equally strong push in films like the upcoming "Zombieland" and "Survival of the Dead." Soon, an all-new property with comic book roots might be joining that flesh-hungry pantheon.
The Hollywood Reporter writes that an adaptation of "Xombie," the Devil's Due Publishing comic book and flash animated series from creator James Farr, could be heading to the big screen courtesy of DreamWorks, Alex Kurtzman and Roberto Orci -- the producer pair behind the upcoming "Cowboys and Aliens"—with a screenplay by cop-turned-writer Will Beall. No matter how much we want to see "Sin City 2" begin production, we're not quite sure if it's ever going to happen. Like chasing a carrot on a stick, we've been looking for official word on the "Sin City" sequel for a while now, but it always seems to remain tantalizingly out of reach.
During the Toronto International Film Festival, MTV News tracked down "Sin City" actor Clive Owen (in town to promote his new film "The Boys Are Back") to find out whether he thinks the project is ever going to happen—or if Frank Miller and Robert Rodriguez' follow-up could indeed be just over the horizon.
"I'm hearing it might be next year," Owen told MTV News. "I heard that from a very good source... recently." Read more...

"Buffy the Vampire Slayer" creator Joss Whedon has never been shy about his love for comics, and it looks like we'll be treated to more evidence of that affection in the near future.
In an interview with Complex, Whedon shared some details about the upcoming season of "Dollhouse," and also dropped some info about the episode set to be directed by his "Astonishing X-Men" artist John Cassaday. As if that wasn't enough to get the comics wire buzzing, he confirmed the looming conclusion of Dark Horse Comics' "Buffy the Vampire Slayer: Season Eight" series—and followed that up with the news that we'll definitely see a "Season Nine" for Buffy and co.
"He’s going to f--- up so much," joked Whedon of the fan-favorite artist's "Dollhouse" debut behind the camera. Read more...

FROM MULTIPLAYER BLOG: In the world of video games, two years is an eternity. A game can go from pre-production to retail in that span of time. Consoles can rise and fall. Just think: two years ago, “Halo 3” came out this week. There was no such thing as a DSi. The most recent PS3 exclusive was “Heavenly Sword”. A different world, I tell you!
It’s been two and a half years since Sega signed on to make games of Marvel’s superhero movies. Since then, “Iron Man” turned out to be Sega’s single greatest non-Sonic success in years and “The Incredible Hulk” wasn’t that incredible. Just recently, “Iron Man 2” started building hype. The other games Sega announced it would be making, however, haven’t been mentioned since. That is, until notes from an August meeting between Sega and SCEA were leaked.

Twitter updates were booming last night, which should come as no surprise since most comic book creators are nocturnal. Brian Michael Bendis tweeted a micro-review of the Facebook movie script he's seen, and Rob Liefeld couldn't hold back his excitement coming out of a Deadpool meeting.
Meanwhile, on the East Coast, everyone in comics with a Twitter account seemed to be either out to greet British visitors Andy Diggle and Jock or tweeting their RSVP. Then there was Geoff Johns, who set up his own in-home MAME emulator-powered arcade cabinet. But "Donkey Kong Jr." would prove to be his downfall.
I'm @brianwarmoth, and that mixtape of tweets is waiting for you below in the Twitter Report for September 23, 2009. Read more...
