Jaimie AlexanderThe world of Asgard just got a little bigger in the form of actors Jaimie Alexander and Colm Feore signing up for the big screen adaptation of "Thor" from Marvel Studios.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Feore and Alexander are joining the likes of Chris Hemsworth, Tom Hiddleston and Natalie Portman in "Thor." Alexander will play Sif, a "skilled Asgardian warrior who can hold her own against any man" and also a lover of Thor's.

Feore, meanwhile, is slated to play an as-yet-named villain. No matter which villain Feore winds up playing, he's sure to have a menacing presence—just check out the telemovie "The Storm of the Century" for one of the creepiest performances ever captured on film. Read more...

Ever since the moment "The Avengers" movie became official, there's been speculation about what the plot will entail—specifically, what force could be so great that it would need the combined efforts of Iron Man, Captain America, Thor and the stars of the rest of Marvel's solo movies to share the spotlight. The most obvious answer has always been Hulk, the green-skinned behemoth that first forced the eclectic group of heroes to team up in the comic book world.

When MTV News caught up with Edward Norton, the actor who brought Hulk (or rather, his alter ego Bruce Banner) to the big screen in 2008's "Incredible Hulk," we asked whether he could see the character return to the screen for a brawl with Earth's Mightiest Heroes.

"In the comics, there was always a tension between the rest of the superhero community and he was always this problem... They treated him as this problem," said Norton. Read more...

Justice LeagueEven though most fans have quietly given up on George Miller's would-be Justice League film over the past year or so, Hollywood certainly hasn't forgotten about Warner Bros.' flagship superhero property—especially now that DC Entertainment has been formed to specifically serve those interests.

Case in point: A recent Risky Biz Blog post regarding the yet-to-be released "Sherlock Holmes" movie mentions a writing team Splash Page readers may remember.

According to the blog, Warner Bros. plans to have, "Kieran and Michele Mulroney, the scribes who are penning its 'Justice League: Mortal' tentpole" write a "Sherlock" sequel. Read more...

DeadpoolDespite this month's DVD debut of "X-Men Origins: Wolverine," things have been relatively quiet regarding the film's most mouthy (or in this case, mouthless) supporting character Wade Wilson, better known to fans as Deadpool.

Now if the excited posts on Deadpool co-creator Robert Liefeld's Twitter page are any indication, the project could be healthier than ever.

"Great Deadpool movie meeting! Lauren Shuler Donner and her team are headed in the right direction!" Liefeld Tweeted last night. Read more...

We haven't heard anything from the live-action "Cowboy Bebop" movie front in a while, so when MTV News had the chance to chat up Keanu Reeves, the actor bringing main character Spike Spiegel to the screen, we made sure to check in on the adaptation of the beloved anime series.

"There's a draft of the script, but the writer did such a great job [that] in order to make the movie, you would need half a billion dollars," Reeves told MTV News during a press event for "The Private Lives of Pippa Lee," his recent film with Robin Wright Penn. Read more...

Captain AmericaAfter the comment section of yesterday's Twitter Report caught fire with casting suggestions for Captain America, it seemed natural to bring the conversation into this week's poll.

Readers have suggested everyone from "Mad Men" actor Jon Hamm to "True Blood" vampire Alexander Skarsgard as their picks for weakling-turned-supersoldier Steve Rogers—and a few well-known actors have thrown their names into ring, too. We've heard from John Barrowman ("Torchwood"), Channing Tatum ("G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra") and even Tyrese Gibson ("Transformers") making their pitches for the role. And then there's that pesky rumor about Will Smith...

So, with "The First Avenger" still in search of its lead, who should play Captain America? Read more...

Amazing Fantasy 15When I read the news that Jack Kirby’s kids were seeking copyrights to all their father’s Marvel creations, I found it curious that Sony is one of the studios sent termination notices.

Why? Because Sony’s only Marvel-based movies that might have anything to do with Kirby’s legacy are those in the “Spider-Man” franchise—and he’s never had official credit for co-creating Spider-Man or the other major characters in the superhero’s mythology.

Apparently, bloggers at The Hollywood Reporter were also intrigued by the claims of the Sony/Spider-Man part of the case, especially after getting their hands on two of the notices, which respectively seek to recapture rights to most of the original characters from the Fantastic Four and Spider-Man comics. Nicolas Cage as SupermanWay back in the '90s, Michael Keaton was Bruce Wayne, comic books came with a dozen variant covers and Nicolas Cage was the actor tagged to bring another DC icon, Superman, back to the big screen. And now we have a peek at what the "Ghost Rider" actor might have looked like as the Man of Steel.

Or do we?

A photo that recently popped up on TimBurton.jp purports to be a leaked image from Cage's screen test for the role of Superman, complete with spandex costume and long, "Death of Superman"-era hair. They've also posted a video that features some of the concept art created for the film, which was set to be directed by Tim Burton and feature a story initially conceived by Kevin Smith. DeadpoolSuper Hero Squad, eat your heart out. Rob Liefeld posted a great pic from Deadpool Day last night, and I hope that's a Federal holiday, because it sounds like it should be. (Liefeld continues to one of the greatest reasons a comic book reader can use Twitter, but feel free to disagree in the comment section.)

What you definitely shouldn't disagree with is the great advice Marvel's art hunter C.B. Cebulski often posts on Twitter. Today, he tweeted some depressing info, calling out prospective Marvel employees for playing the "I'm dying" card when trying to get work. If I'm ever on my deathbed, I do not want to have to have those kinds of deadlines to worry about—but that's just me.

Read on for those posts, along with Erik Larsen's take on the recent Jack Kirby family challenge to Marvel. It's in the Twitter Report for September 22, 2009. Read more...
