This week's Top 10 posts were all over the map, from post-VMA reactions to more info on some of the recent announcements that rocked the comics biz. Here's how the week looked:
10. Move over, "Twilight," an official sequel to Bram Stoker's "Dracula" is on the way—and it's a graphic novel!
9. A new video featurette from "Solomon Kane" added to the film's already high praise. This one could be a sleeper hit, folks!
8. Bruce Campbell said he has a major role in "Spider-Man 4"... and there was much rejoicing!
7. Michael Fassbender explained how The Riddler factored into his portrayal of a "Jonah Hex" character.
6. More photos of Clark Kent's new costume in "Smallville" (as well as some shots of Brian Austin Green as Metallo) had readers buzzing about the new look for the live-action DC characters.
5. Edward Norton weighed in on those rumors that he'll have a cameo in "Iron Man 2." Read more...

Ever wonder what comic book creators feed their kids in the morning? Well, at least one writer out there has discovered waffles with Star Trek characters on them. I can't imagine there's any better way to casually encourage sci-fi conversations with the family at the breakfast table. The Twitter Report kicks off today with that pic from Duane Swierczynski and some Jim Lee Batman artwork that is magnificent.
Right after that, there's a piece of trivia that came to light on Twitter in the last 24 hours -- apparently "Amazing Spider-Man" writer Dan Slott was high school chums with one of my favorite webcomics creators, Bill Barnes of the library strip "Unshelved." Click on down to check those out, along with tweets from Paul Pope, Evan Dorkin and Tony Moore. It's all in the Twitter Report for September 18, 2009. Read more...

New "Astro Boy" posters, pictures and teasers have been trickling in all year, but the latest look at the October film offers a fun slice of action and shows how its animated world will move. Osamu Tezuka's classic boy robot character floats around smoothly, and Donald Sutherland's voice acting is unmistakable in the clip, which features a small robot, a giant vehicle, a high-altitude urban chase and an apparent suicide near the end if I'm not mistaken. Check it out and let me know if you agree:
With a cast including Nicolas Cage, Kristen Bell, Samuel L. Jackson and Eugene Levy, among others, the lively character casting and vibrant movements should really pop. And though the lighting is pretty dark and foreboding throughout this scene, it does take place at night, so I hope the colors catch up with the daylight in the next glimpse that comes along. "Conan" and "Red Sonja" are heading to the big screen eventually, but while we wait for the Robert E. Howard creations to hit theaters, an entirely different fantasy comic book might get the movie treatment first.
Variety reports that "DevaShard" -- a Fluid Comics-created maxiseries filled with swords, sorcery and other fantasy elements -- is receiving a film adaptation courtesy of Vanquish Motion Pictures. "Underworld" co-creator and actor Kevin Grevioux will executive produce. Grevioux also provided a story treatment for "DevaShard," which Heather Kenealy, alongside Vanquish toppers Jay Douglas and Nav Gupta, will adapt into the movie's screenplay. Read more...

"X-Men Origins: Wolverine" director Gavin Hood did his homework on Logan's character and history when he set to work on the film. Much of that history, however, includes excessive cigar chomping. Those same smoking habits became an editorial target at Marvel after editor-in-chief Joe Quesada came to power and tobacco use has since been discouraged throughout their titles. Wolverine did enjoy the occassional cigar in Hood's film, however, earning a negative reaction from the American Medical Association Alliance. Fox followed suit with a special anti-smoking public service announcement on this week's DVD release of the movie, and Hood expressed a personal interest in its inclusion.
"My biggest fan on this movie is my nephew, who's 12 years old," Hood told MTV News. "You certainly don't want for that audience or any audience to suggest that smoking is cool, given what we now know about smoking, which was not the case 40 years ago when the comic book character was created." "Priest" is assembling quite the cast already -- in addition to "Twilight" actor Cam Gigandet and "True Blood" star Stephen Moyer, among several others, a trio of new actors have just been announced for the project.
According to multiple sources, actress Madchen Amick and actors Christopher Plummer and Brad Dourif are joining the cast of "Priest," based on the popular manga series of the same name.
Paul Bettany stars as the titular warrior priest who must track down his kidnapped niece, presumably abducted by a group of vicious vampires. Variety reports that Amick will play Shannon, the mother of the kidnapped niece and wife of Stephen Moyer's still unnamed character. Although Dourif and Plummer's roles aren't entirely clear yet, director Scott Stewart announced their casting by way of Twitter. Read more...

Most comic-to-film stories seem marred when a fan-favorite detail gets lost in translation, but in the case of Mark Millar and John Romita Jr.'s "Kick-Ass," one character seems to have gained something in the comic's transition to the silver screen.
The title character's cohort in crime fighting, The Red Mist, has inherited a righteous mop in place of his Zorro-style bandana from the comics—a stylistic variation actor Christopher Mintz-Plasse seems pretty keen on.
"[The look] fits for the character," Mintz-Plasse told MTV News, "The character is very in his dad's shadow. He doesn't get to hang out a lot with friends because he always has a bodyguard around. He kind of wanted that wild side—that '80s glam-rock kind of look. And I love [David] Bowie—I love that kind of hair." Read more...

To date, Ryan Reynolds is the only known cast member of the upcoming Martin Campbell-directed "Green Lantern," but a recent casting call has offered a first glimpse into the other characters surrounding Hal Jordan in the DC Comics adaptation.
According to SpoilerTV, an allegedly official casting notice reveals four familiar characters that will appear in Hal Jordan's first live-action flight -- Carol Ferris, Dr. Hector Hammond, Sinestro and Abin Sur. While the authenticity of the casting call can't be verified just yet, it nonetheless provides some interesting possibilities about "Green Lantern."
In the comics, Carol Ferris is an occasional love interest of Hal Jordan's. Carol runs the Ferris Aircraft business for her ailing father, has a strict no-dating-employees policy, which interferes with her and Hal's romance. The casting call's description of Carol as a 26-32 year old work-a-holic sounds pretty on the money. Read more...

Now that "Scott Pilgrim vs the World" has finished its principle photography, director Edgar Wright is waist-deep in all of those gloriously over-the-top special effects that the story demands. He offered a status update today in his tweeting. Creator Bryan Lee O'Malley took notice.
Meanwhile, on the set of "The Losers," Idris Elba snapped a pic of his fellow cast members relaxing together between takes. It's probably one of the best group shots to make it out of production so far. You scope out all of those, as well as a pile of great links to "Strangers in Paradise" creator Terry Moore's recent con sketches, featuring Batman, Wonder Woman and a Wolverine girl. I'm @brianwarmoth, and this is the Twitter Report for September 17, 2009.
Scott Pilgrim pt 1: @edgarwright I saw some half finished Scott Pilgrim effects today. I think it was Miss Gwen Stefani who once opined "This shit is bananas. B-a-n-a-n-a-s"

Not everyone can work with their siblings, especially when it comes to creative endeavors. Luckily for "Heroes" actress Brea Grant and her brother Zane, a love of sequential art seems to be a family trait, with the two teaming to revision the roaring '20s via the undead in their upcoming IDW Publishing series "We Will Bury You."
Featuring interior art by Kyle Strahm and covers by Ben Templesmith ("30 Days of Night"), the first issue isn't slated to arrive in stores until early 2010, meaning that between a comic release, Brea's recent "Halloween II" role and the Sept. 21 premiere of "Heroes" Season Four, it's not a bad time to be a Grant sibling.
Of course, according to Brea Grant, it's never been a bad time to team up with her brother. Read more...
