Back in 2007, Gerard Butler broke through with "300" and seemed like he had the chops, physique and charm to become some kind of a modern Sean Connery-meets-Clint Eastwood type. Sure enough, Hollywood jumped on the Butler train immediately and signed him for everything from the "Untouchables" prequel to "Gamer" to romantic flicks like “P.S. I Love You” and “The Ugly Truth.”
With apologies to my wife–who seems to think “P.S. I Love You” is the most touching piece of film this side of our child’s birth video–I miss the Frank Miller-Gerard Butler tandem. So, when we caught up with the super-busy star recently, we had to ask: Is he ever going to work with the graphic novel legend again?
“I could see myself working with Frank again,” explained the "Law Abiding Citizen" star. “But, I don’t know. Graphic novels are things that I wouldn’t do a lot of, so I would have to really choose carefully before I did.”
And then things got really interesting–as Butler spilled the beans to us that he has spoken to Miller about working together again, not on the proposed “300” sequel but on that other franchise everybody wants to see back on the big screen again: "Sin City."
"At one point, he talked to me about one of the 'Sin City' [movies],” explained the actor, possibly revealing some casting details for whenever Miller and Robert Rodriguez get around to filming their supposed sequels to the gritty 2005 graphic novel-turned-blockbuster. “And we discussed that.”
Although Butler didn’t reveal his character’s name, he reported that Miller wanted him not for this next film, but likely for the one after that.
Which of the so-far-unused Frank Miller “Sin City” characters could you see Gerard Butler playing in one of the sequels?
