The New York Yankees and the Philadelphia Phillies are officially going head-to-head in this year's World Series, causing folks from all walks of life to root for one baseball team or the other—in fact, even the heroes of the Marvel Universe are taking sides.
Earlier in the season, Marvel Comics editor-in-chief Joe Quesada spoke with MLB.com about the various baseball franchises competing for a shot at the World Series title, which has now been whittled down to the Yankees and the Phillies.
According to Quesada, the two characters in the Marvel Universe that would most easily be identified as Yankees fans are Wolverine and the Thing. Read more...

Earlier this year, it was announced that Universal had picked up the film rights to Rick Remender and Tony Moore’s epic sci-fi comic, “Fear Agent.” And while the series may be wrapping up next year, Remender is hinting that “Fear Agent” may have an even brighter future on the silver screen.
“The details are being ironed out,” Remender teased to Newsarama. “The real announcement will be much cooler and come with fireworks and dancing ladies with boobs. If this happens the way it might happen, it’ll be great.”
Back in August, Remender told MTV News that he hoped “Fear Agent” would become “a giant $100 million dollar movie.” Remender also stated that “Mad Man” star Jon Hamm would be one of his top choices to play the series' main character, Heath Hudson. Apparently, Jon Hamm is also heavily favored by Remender's “Fear Agent” co-creator and artist, Tony Moore. Read more...

It's been a busy year at the movies for robots big and small, from blockbusters like "Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen" and "Terminator: Salvation" to this week's significantly more tame "Astro Boy." This November, Marvel Comics’ classic, semi-robotic antihero Deathlok heads back to print in a big way, too—with a new seven-issue miniseries from Marvel’s mature label, MAX.
Originally created in the '70s by Rich Buckler and Doug Moench, Deathlok is the name adopted by Luther Manning, an American soldier in a post-apocalyptic future who is killed in action then resurrected as an experimental cyborg. And it all happened years before "Robocop."
Marvel has provided Splash Page readers with a preview of "Deathlok" #1, featuring a story by acclaimed novelist Charlie Huston (“Moon Knight”) and artist Lan Medina (“Foolkiller”). Read more...

Mastodon's rumored role as composers for the "Jonah Hex" score has since been confirmed, and the band has now opened up with some details about what their tracks will sound like behind Josh Brolin, Megan Fox and John Malkovich. When "Jonah Hex" hits theaters in 2010, it will have an original sound playing behind it that channels both Pink Floyd and Neil Young.
"Some of it was heavy, some of it was very moody," Mastodon bassist Troy Sanders told Paste. "A lot of it was spacey, Melvins B-sides, Pink Floyd-like, surreal outer space, like Neil Young’s 'Dead Man.' Swirling, nausea music." Read more...

They're all waiting after the jump in the Friday Twitter Report for October 23, 2009. Read more...

Last spring's "Thor" casting contest conjured more rumors than most fans could shake an Uru hammer at, so when the storm had finally settled to reveal Chris Hemsworth as the son of Odin, many reserved judgment—that is, until they saw him lead a starship as Captain George Kirk.
While his heroic role fetched plenty of fan support, Hemsworth's biggest booster to date may just be his former "Star Trek" director J.J. Abrams, who had nothing but great things to say about the actor's Starfleet performance.
"It’s very exciting. We really lucked out," Abrams told MTV News in an exclusive interview ahead of the "Star Trek" DVD/Blu-Ray release next month. "He’s so crazy handsome and he’s so strapping with the classic leading man look. I sort of wish I had dirtied him up a little bit, messed his hair up a little bit." Read more...
