CagesDave McKean proved that his award-winning artwork can go for the long haul in his feature length movie "MirrorMask" with Neil Gaiman. Now, it sound like he's taken a step forward with adapting his own graphic novel "Cages," according to a tweet this morning.

Meanwhile, Brian Michael Bendis received an old-fashioned fan letter in the mail inviting him to appear at a 10-year-old's school. Unfortunately, there's a sad twist to the story. Find out about that, along with who Edgar Wright saw "Akira" with in 1989, where Steve Lieber's currently trying to obtain a new passport, and what terrible dreams about "Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen" plagued Jonathan Hickman last night.

It's all in the Twitter Report for October 21, 2009. Read More...

As longtime readers know, we've been closely following the ups and downs of a potential adaptation of Brian Bendis' graphic novel "Torso" for quite a while now. The crime drama follows a post-Untouchables Eliot Ness as he investigates the one of the nation's first serial killers, and at one point in the project's move to the big screen, David Fincher was attached to direct with Matt Damon, Casey Affleck and Rachel McAdams tagged for lead roles.

While the project initially attracted significant buzz, Paramount let its rights to the adaptation expire back in January, leaving many people—including Bendis himself—uncertain if it had a future in Hollywood. However, just like any good comic book character, the project isn't staying dead for very long, and Bendis revealed during a recent visit to Splash Page HQ that the "Torso" movie has found momentum once again.

"A week ago I had final, but this weekend, not so much with the final," said Bendis when I asked if he had a "final word" on the project's status. Read More...

The First Avenger: Captain AmericaThe 2011 release date for "The First Avenger: Captain America" inches ever closer as 2009 enters its home stretch, and the key release for Marvel's "Avengers" film franchise looks like it has editor-in-chief Joe Quesada's approval thus far. Quesada wouldn't reveal which actors are in line to play Captain America, but he did predict surprises and offered his initial impression of the script at Big Apple Comic Con last weekend.

"I've seen a couple of outlines and an initial screenplay, and it's going to rock everyone's socks off," told his panel's audience, according to Comic Book Resources. "It's very unexpected, the kind of movie it is." Read More...

The TalismanComic books based on Stephen King's novels have almost become a genre of their own lately, with adaptations and spin-offs of both "The Stand" and his "Dark Tower" series finding new life in the world of graphic novels.

This November, King's 1984 novel "The Talisman" (co-written with Peter Straub) goes the same route with a new graphic novel adaptation published by Del Rey Comics.

The story follows a teenager tasked with retrieving a magical talisman in order to save his dying mother. He must cross back and forth between our world and its alternate—and more dangerous—"twinner" counterpart. Read More...

Bruce CampbellEarlier this week, "Spider-Man 4" director Sam Raimi made a lot of people very happy when he told MTV News that Bruce Campbell would have a "meaty role" in the next "Spider-Man" movie. Thus far, the "Evil Dead" actor's cameos have rivaled even those of comics legend Stan Lee when it comes to pleasing fans, but many Spider-fans have wondered (especially in our comment section) whether Campbell could be destined for bigger and better things in the film franchise.

With fans buzzing about a potential debut for face-changing villain Chameleon or the master of illusion, Mysterio, there's the possibility that all of Campbell's cameo roles could actually be the same person. Of course, those rumors are at odds with some arguing that he'd make a better Kraven the Hunter than either of the two aforementioned bad guys.

Heck, the "Evil Dead" actor was a ring announcer in the first film, a theater usher in the second and a nasty waiter in the third—but could these roles be connected? Should they be? Read More...

Criminal MacabreBack in August, we brought you the news that the comic book series "Criminal Macabre" was headed to theaters courtesy of Universal Pictures. The series, which follows drug-abusing, foul-mouthed private detective Cal McDonald as he investigates all manner of gory supernatural mysteries, regularly featured a familiar face as the model for McDonald on its cover: "Punisher" actor Thomas Jane.

When I recently got Jane on the phone to talk about his directorial debut, the noir thriller "Dark Country," I had to ask him about "Criminal Macabre," too—more specifically, whether there's been any talk of him bringing the downtrodden hero to the big screen.

"[Cal McDonald] is a fantastic character," Jane told MTV News, adding, "I’m born to play that role." Read More...

Hack/SlashNot long ago, a little movie called "Eve" was announced with eerie similarities to "Hack/Slash," the Devil's Due Publishing series created by Tim Seeley. While some fans were worried that "Eve" would derail development on a "Hack/Slash" movie, Seeley and the "Eve" helmer reconciled their differences to keep "Hack/Slash" on track.

Now, it sounds like things are really on track for the comic book adaptation, as Collider recently had the opportunity to speak with "Hack/Slash" producers Adrian Askarieh and Daniel Alter at this weekend's 2009 Scream Awards.

While details are currently being kept under wraps, Alter reaffirmed that a director has been chosen for "Hack/Slash" with other announcements soon to follow. Read More...

Ryan KwantenFrom Anna Paquin's history with "X-Men" to Stephen Moyer's upcoming turn in "Priest" — not to mention Alexander Skarsgård's near-miss with "Thor" — the cast of "True Blood" is starting to realize that as cool as vampires are, nothing beats the comic book scene.

Now, it appears that Ryan Kwanten — who plays the dim-witted Jason Stackhouse on the HBO vampire drama — is getting in on the action, as Moviehole reports that the Australian-born actor is shooting a superhero romantic comedy in Sydney titled "Griff the Invisible."

Not only does the film mark Kwanten's first official foray into the world of superheroes — though it's not the first time his name has appeared on Splash Page — it's also the directorial debut for the film's writer-director Leon Ford. Read More...
