NBC’s recent order of six additional episodes for the third season of “Chuck” will prevent Zachary Levi from appearing in director Kenneth Branagh’s upcoming adaptation of “Thor.”
In an interview with USA Weekend, Levi revealed that he was cast as Fandral — a heroic adventurer who along with Hogun the Grim and Volstagg comprise the trio known as the Warriors Three — before being forced to back out of the role to fulfill his commitment to “Chuck.”
Levi also disclosed that he was initially approached to audition for the title role in “Thor,” which he turned down despite starting a training regimen for the movie. “I’m tall and in pretty good shape, but I’m not big and girthy like that,” said Levi.
Levi’s comments are the first official confirmation that the Warriors Three will appear in “Thor.” Back in October, actor Dominic Cooper was linked to the role of Fandral after being spotted with confidential script slides from “Thor.”
As for the rest of the Warriors Three, veteran actor Brian Blessed — previously rumored to play Odin — would be a perfect fit for the boisterous Volstagg. Additionally, Hogun the Grim could easily be portrayed by either Colm Feore (“24”) or Stellan Skarsgård (“Pirates of the Caribbean: At World’s End”), both of whom have been confirmed to appear in “Thor” in currently unannounced roles.
“Thor” is set to begin filming in January with Chris Hemsworth in the leading role along with Tom Hiddleston, Anthony Hopkins and Natalie Portman.
