Something unthinkable is happening in Hollywood, as Mandalay Pictures has picked up the rights to "Unthinkable," a comic book series from Boom Studios.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, writer Mark Sable's "Unthinkable" will be produced by Mandalay's Peter Guber and Cathy Schulman, with Boom's Ross Richie and Andrew Cosby producing as well. "Unthinkable" marks the latest Boom comic book to get optioned for film, with "Tag" and "2 Guns" currently set up at Universal Pictures.
Sable's "Unthinkable" boats a provocative premise — following the events of September 11th, novelist Alan Ripley is recruited into a government think tank alongside several other creative minds. Their job is to conjure up the wildest disaster scenarios they can possibly think of, but the think tank is eventually closed and Ripley is sent on his way.
Years later, the attacks that Ripley and his compatriots hypothesized start coming to fruition, and it's up to him to figure out who is responsible — but not if the government gets to him first.
THR recalls an interesting anecdote where Sable was detained by Los Angeles International Airport security guards after the discovery of one of the writer's scripts for the "Unthinkable" comic book series.
"Talk about life imitating art imitating life," Sable wrote on Twitter shortly after the problem was resolved. "Nothing like starting the day explaining you're not a terrorist, but [you're] writing about them."
