EDITOR'S NOTE: Each week, MTV Movies Blog subjects two women with very different tastes in horror movies to the highs and lows of the genre, then records their discussion of the films. This time around, the "Gore Girls" tackled David Slade's "30 Days of Night"—an adaptation of Steve Niles and Ben Templesmith's vampire tale set in Alaska. Be sure to check out MoviesBlog.MTV.com for more from the "Gore Girls." -RM

Welcome to Gore Girls! MTV contributor Terri Schwartz doesn't know crap about the horror genre, and she's volunteered to be our Movies Blog guinea pig. She has a good guide too. Fellow contributor Jenni Miller is a bonafide horror enthusiast, and she's willing to walk Terri through her formative experiences with blood, guts, monsters and maniacs. Together, this dynamic duo are THE GORE GIRLS!!! Good luck Terri... you're definitely going to need it.

Our vampire-themed month for the Gore Girls continues today with "30 Days of Night." The setup is actually pretty ingenious for a vampire movie. The blood-suckers hate sunlight, right? And Alaska has, what, 100 days or so of sunlight each year? There's no better place for them to call home, provided they can survive that long hibernation. And "30 Days of Night" has the added bonus of being directed by David Slade, who just wrapped filming on the third "Twilight" movie, "Eclipse." Take it away, Jenni and Terri.

Dollhouse - TwitterNow that Joss Whedon's "Dollhouse" has been cancelled on FOX, expect to see a lot more more tweets over the next few days from the comics Twitterverse. Paul Cornell was among those mourning the show's loss today and had some advice for Whedon.

Matt Fraction, meanwhile, offered some advice to CNN after learning that Lou Dobbs would be leaving his show on the network, and Mitch Breitweiser spoke up about artists being asked to work for free. Find out what they had to say after the jump along with Tony Lee's comics-related findings in India, what Skottie Young was up to at the hospital while waiting for his new baby to be born and Stan Lee's shout-out to Splash Page!

It's all in the Twitter Report for November 12, 2009. Read More...

The "Marvel Super Hero Squad" cartoon premiered in September with a host of uber-cute versions of its characters, but the latest addition to the animated series' roster seemed worth a call-out. Boys and girls, check out the kid-friendly version of Marvel's wielder of the power cosmic: the sentinel of the spaceways known as... "silver britches"? Yes, it's the Silver Surfer.

While this is definitely my favorite of the series' too-cute character profiles thus far, I'm still waiting to see a profile of the cute-ified version of Captain America's Nazi-friendly nemesis, The Red Skull (as voiced by Mark Hamill).

It's no secret that many creators in and around the comics scene have embraced Twitter these days—and many of them make regular appearances in our daily Twitter Report. Perhaps one of the most surprising creators with a regular presence in the Twitterverse, however, is one of the industry's most beloved icons: Stan Lee.

The co-creator of Spider-Man, Iron Man, Hulk, the X-Men and countless other popular characters, the 86-year-old Lee has taken to Twitter with surprising ease. A typical 24 hours with @SmilinStanLee offers readers a host of witty observations, tongue-in-cheek commentary and self-deprecating humor that reveals why Stan "The Man" Lee is one of comics' living legends.

I spoke with Lee about his arrival on the Twitter scene, why he's taken to the microblogging tool so easily, and why communicating with fans on Twitter actually has him feeling like he's gone back in time.

"I heard that some of the people I like are Twittering—like Kevin Smith—and I figured there must be something to it," said Lee when asked how he was first introduced to Twitter's 140-character world. Read More...

Solomon KaneThe U.S. distribution rights for the film adaptation of Robert E. Howard’s “Solomon Kane” have been acquired by Lionsgate.

[UPDATE: "Solomon Kane" director Michael J. Bassett reports on his website that the film has not been picked up by Lionsgate: "Lots of notes and emails coming through telling me that Lionsgate have picked up Kane. Yes, it seems like a good fit but no, it isn’t true – as far as I am aware. Don’t know where this rumour started but sorry folks in North America, you are no nearer to seeing Solomon Kane. Everyone else; early next year."]

According to Fangoria, the rights were picked up at the American Film Market and may lead to “Solomon Kane” having a full theatrical release before coming out on DVD.

The $40 million film was written and directed by Michael J. Bassett and stars James Purefoy as the title character. Bassett’s previous films include “Deathwatch” and “Wilderness” while Purefoy is perhaps best known for his role as Marc Antony on the HBO series, “Rome.” Legendary film actor Max Von Sydow also stars in the movie along with Rachel Hurd-Wood, Pete Postlethwaite and Alice Krige. FreakAngelsSince his comic book debut in 1990, Warren Ellis has been one of the most prolific writers in the comic industry with dozens of original creations in addition to several books for Marvel and DC.

Following the recent announcement that “Black Summer” was optioned by Vigilante Entertainment in addition to the upcoming film adaptations of his “Red” and “Gravel” series, it seems clear that Ellis has become an in-demand comic creator in Hollywood.

With an eye toward more of Ellis' work finding its way to the big (or small) screen, here are five of his projects that would also make excellent films or TV series. Read More...

ConanAs “Conan” gets closer to making his return to the big screen, two of the top FX alumni from Zack Snyder’s “300” adaptation have joined the project.

Shaun Smith has signed on as a creature designer on “Conan” and Scott Wheeler will head up the makeup department. In addition to their time on “300”, Smith created makeup FX for “Buffy The Vampire Slayer” and “The Forbidden Kingdom” while Wheeler has worked extensively on two “Star Trek” movies, “Star Trek: Deep Space Nine” and Joss Whedon’s upcoming film “The Cabin in the Woods.”

DollhouseFROM MOVIES BLOG: "Dollhouse" fans, the news you've been dreading has officially arrived—Joss Whedon's latest television endeavor is dead.

The Hollywood Reporter has the breaking news that Fox has canceled "Dollhouse," the Eliza Dushku-starring series created by Whedon. The article notes that despite a DVR-induced ratings bump, "Dollhouse" just couldn't cut it by the network's standards. As a result, the series will be put out to pasture after the 13th episode of the second season. Episode 11 is currently filming.

Okay, so the upcoming remake of "Clash of the Titans" isn't a comic book movie. I could try to make all sorts of connections between the film's cast (Sam Worthington, Liam Neeson, Danny Huston, etc.) and comic book movies ("Green Lantern," "Batman Begins," "Wolverine"), but let's be honest here: it looks really freakin' cool and that's why I'm posting it here. Enjoy.

Giant scorpions, Medusa, "300"-style brawls and Liam Neeson as Zeus. I'm sold.

If you like what you see (and even if you don't), be sure to check out the Freeze Frame "Clash of the Titans" commentary on MoviesBlog.MTV.com, too.

Kick-AssEarlier today the first "Kick-Ass" teaser trailer hit the 'Net, and now we have another poster from Matthew Vaughn's adaptation of John Romita Jr. and Mark Millar's comic book series.

While the last batch of "Kick-Ass" posters offered a rear view of the film's costumed vigilantes peering over the city in heroic fashion, the new poster that debuted today on MySpace offers a decidedly different take on the Kick-Ass—the costumed alter ego of high school geek Dave Lizewski.

The poster sports the tag line: "I Can't Fly. But I Can Kick Your Ass." and features a bruised and battered Lizewski (as played by Aaron Johnson) staring out from an over-filled dumpster. Read More...
