In August, James McTeigue told MTV News he would neither confirm nor deny rumors that he might direct the next "Superman" movie. What he was keen to do was delve into his vision for the next big-screen take on the Man of Steel: he wanted to start the franchise from scratch, avoid an origin story and make the whole thing super dark.

McTeigue had so much to say, it was hard to avoid the idea that he'd had some sort of contact with DC Comics or Warner Brothers about the project. Then last month, DC Entertainment President Diane Nelson told us the company doesn't "have any current plans for Superman." And when we spoke to McTeigue last Friday, it seemed he, too, no longer had concrete plans for the franchise.

"It's in a weird place at the moment," he told MTV News. "They're trying to work out what they're doing. Warner Brothers is trying to figure out their next move on it. There's some things you can do with the 'Superman' franchise, there's other things you can't do. So it hasn't gone anywhere." Read More...

TerminatorThe Terminator franchise made comics news earlier this year when "Terminator: Salvation" spawned releases for the iPhone and iPod touch from IDW. Now, Zack Whedon says his work on a "Dr. Horrible" comic has inspired him to write more for the medium, and his next step will be bringing new "Terminator" stories to comics from Dark Horse.

"I am currently working on a six issue 'Terminator' series for Dark Horse," Whedon revealed in a column for Techland.com. "I just turned in the first script and I’m very excited about it."

Hack/Slash"Hack/Slash" has seen its fair share of swaps on the long road to the big screen. The film saw a director switch when Fredrik Bond replaced Todd Lincoln following the sale of Rogue Pictures to Relativity Media from Universal Pictures. Now, "The Grudge" writer Stephen Susco has reportedly stepped in to write the screenplay which was previously entrusted to "Street Fighter: The Legend of Chun Li" scribe Justin Marks.

Relativity snagged Susco to pen a new draft of the "Hack/Slash" script, according to Bloody-Disgusting.com. Susco comes to the project with several horror credits under his belt, including the first two "Grudge" movies and the still-in-development "Texas Chainsaw Massacre 3D." Read More...

Jaimie AlexanderWith "Thor" shooting set to begin in January, it's no surprise that the actors portraying the inhabitants of Asgard are getting in shape for their godly roles.

Jaimie Alexander, who joined the "Thor" cast in September as the "skilled Asgardian warrior" Sif, has been posting updates from the front lines of her intense training regimen. According to Alexander's Twitter feed, the "Kyle XY" actress has not only been pumping up for the role, but she's also been getting in a hefty amount of stunt training, too.

"Gearing up for a full week of stunts! I LOVE MY JOB!" she posted yesterday. Read More...

Iron Man 2Actor Edward Woodward's death at the age of 79 prompted a string of tweets from the comics crowd this morning, many of whom are unsurprisingly fans of his TV series "The Equalizer." Simon Pegg, meanwhile, holds a special place in his heart for the 1974 movie spin-off of Woodward's series "Callan."

Elsewhere, Jon Favreau hit the editing room hard for "Iron Man 2," and had good things to post about the digital animated shots he's integrating into the film. Read what he had to say after the jump along with Fred Van Lente's hopes for the Marvel Spider-Man summit and Andy Diggle's continued observations from "Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2."

It's all in the Twitter Report for November 16, 2009. Read More...

Grant MorrisonWith Oren Peli's found-footage horror film "Paranormal Activity" making a big box-office splash, it's only natural that everyone's wondering about his next project. An alien-themed scare flick titled "Area 51," the Paramount film has been shrouded in secrecy—but details recently emerged about Peli's plans for the film. One thing the spoilery report didn't mention, however, is what the forward movement on Peli's "Area 51" means for another Paramount project with the same name: Grant Morrison's long-gestating "Area 51" movie based on the Midway video game.

We last reported on Morrison's "Area 51" script more than a year ago, with the comics scribe promising that his script offered "a new take on the mythology." Details regarding Morrison's take on "Area 51" are even more scarce than details about Peli's closely guarded script, but from what we can tell, the scripts' similarities end at the theme, title and studio backing them. FROM MOVIES BLOG: File this one under "here's hoping." Brian Cox is a gifted performer. One of those actors whose mere presence is enough to elevate a movie. "Troy" wasn't that great, but Cox helped make it bearable as Agamemnon. And his roles in "X2: X-Men United" and "Super Troopers" -- already fine films -- are unforgettable, career highlights without question. Also don't forget: Cox was the first person to fill the role of man-eater Hannibal Lecter (spelled Lecktor back then), in Michael Mann's "Manhunter."

Now the word is that Cox is up for one of the dwarves in director Guillermo del Toro's adaptation of "The Hobbit." The news comes from AICN, with Cox being described as a "major contender." The report is clear to state that there's no way of knowing right now if the role is cast or if the producers are just looking at the veteran actor, but either way -- I'll take any Cox/"Hobbit" association I can get.

Wes Anderson's stop-motion animated 'Fantastic Mr. Fox' is so rich with detail — every frame bursting with color and movement and utter coolness — it's almost hard to know where to look. During one scene, though, something jumped out to me: a fox reading a comic book.

The moment occurs about 2/3 through the movie, when Mr. Fox and his family are on the run from three murderous farmers. Fox's 12-year-old son, Ash (voiced by Jason Schwartzman), kicks back and opens a comic book called "White Cape." The audience gets a peek at the cover, but we never see a single page. The title does go a long way toward explaining why the young fox wears a makeshift white cape everywhere he goes — you could say White Cape is the bushy-tailed equivalent of Superman.

It turns out that while viewers never get more than a passing glance at the comic, Anderson and his team went to great lengths to design the book — so much so that they might turn the concept into an actual series. Read More...

Zachary LeviNBC’s recent order of six additional episodes for the third season of “Chuck” will prevent Zachary Levi from appearing in director Kenneth Branagh’s upcoming adaptation of “Thor.”

In an interview with USA Weekend, Levi revealed that he was cast as Fandral — a heroic adventurer who along with Hogun the Grim and Volstagg comprise the trio known as the Warriors Three — before being forced to back out of the role to fulfill his commitment to “Chuck.”

Levi also disclosed that he was initially approached to audition for the title role in “Thor,” which he turned down despite starting a training regimen for the movie. “I’m tall and in pretty good shape, but I’m not big and girthy like that,” said Levi. Read More...
