Filmmaker Zack Snyder has long said that he would not direct a sequel to "300" until the completion of a new graphic novel from Frank Miller — but based on the latest word from Miller, Snyder might want to get his Spartan armor ready.
In an interview with Hero Complex, Miller revealed that he is not only working on a graphic novel sequel to "300," but he already has a title in the form of "Xerxes," clearly derived from the name of the first film's villain played by "Lost" actor Rodrigo Santoro.
"It's the battle of Marathon through my lens," Miller said of the novel's plot. "I've finished the plot and I'm getting started on the artwork." Read more...

FROM MULTIPLAYER: If you've watched the teaser trailer for "Batman: Arkham Asylum 2," you may have noticed a few brief hints at some of the villains that'll be appearing in the much anticipated sequel. Well, here's the rundown, and unless Warner and Rocksteady are really trying to throw us off the trail, we fully expect each and every one to have an important role in the sequel:

When MTV News sat down with "Avatar" filmmaker James Cameron ahead of this week's "Behind The Screen" special (Wednesday, 4 PM EST), his blockbuster 3-D film and the new footage from it that we're revealing during the special weren't all that was discussed. Yesterday, we brought you an update on "Battle Angel Alita," Cameron's planned adaptation of the popular manga series, and now we have some thoughts from the filmmaker on a subject near and dear to our hearts here at Splash Page HQ: superhero movies.
"I've sort of made it pretty clear that Spider-Man was the guy I liked when I was a kid and I wasn't too interested in the others," Cameron told MTV News when asked if he's ever been approached about characters other than Spider-Man. (The director previously voiced his desire to bring Marvel's famous webslinger to the big screen during this year's Comic-Con International in San Diego.) Read more...

When last we reported on actress Katee Sackhoff, the former Starbuck was rumored to be picking up a healthy pile of Typhoid Mary comics and dropping hints at a possible Marvel Comics movie role. Now it appears the "Battlestar Galactica" alum and mystery star in the upcoming season of Fox's "24," is switching gears from actor to author as the co-writer behind an upcoming comic book project.
Sackhoff told TV Guide last week that she'd be announcing a new project entitled, "Versus" with co-creator and screenwriter Sxv'Leithan Essex at next summer's San Diego Comic-Con International.

Well, apparently it wasn't Robert Downey Jr. who called Sherlock Holmes a superhero — but that doesn't mean the comparison isn't an apt one. When we sat down to chat with the actor and his "Sherlock Holmes" co-star Jude Law during a recent press event, we had to ask him about another little project on his radar these days: "Iron Man 2."
While Downey was remarkably tight-lipped about the future of the "Iron Man" franchise (and his potential involvement in "The Avengers"), we did manage to forge a comic book connection between the two actors when the topic turned to Law's sealed-in-ink comics cred.
"Oh, it's going to be great," said Downey of "Iron Man 2," only to remark that a widely disseminated quote in which he compares Sherlock Holmes to a superhero didn't actually come from him. However, Law said he might want to take credit for the quote anyways. Read more...

It's been a long two years for fans waiting for Mark Millar and John Romita Jr.'s hyper-violent "Kick-Ass" characters to come to life onscreen, but as the latest poster to hit the 'Net reveals, the film's costumed cast can finally be viewed in full.
Big Daddy is the latest to join a series of movie posters playing off the merits of conventional super powers. Beginning in November with a poster featuring Kick-Ass and the tagline "I can't fly. But I can kick your ass." and followed by another featuring The Red Mist ("I can't read your mind…"), the poster that debuted on UGO now puts the spotlight on Cage's character, proclaiming, "I can't turn invisible. But I can kick your ass."

Last week, we asked MTV readers to vote on their favorite comic book movie of 2009, and now the votes are in!
With more than 50 percent of the total votes, "Watchmen" was the top choice among fans — and by a wide margin, too. When all the votes were tallied, Zack Snyder's live-action adaptation of the classic Alan Moore graphic novel was the clear-cut winner over "X-Men Origins: Wolverine," which received half as many votes to nab the second-place spot.
However, while many predicted a victory by Rorschach, Nite Owl and the rest of "Watchmen" cast, there were some surprises in the final vote — namely among the animated features. Read more...

Titan Books, the publisher of the upcoming "Kick-Ass" movie book, has released some new art from the project created by the "Kick-Ass" comic book series' co-creator, John Romita Jr.
The "Kick-Ass" movie book, which we first told you about back in June, currently doesn't have a release date — but it does have some great artwork from Romita that will be featured in the film. As the artist told us himself, the live-action film will include some form of animation based on his art and designs for the characters' real-life vigilante costumes.
The three pieces of art released by Titan include a pair of shots featuring Big Daddy and Hit Girl (played by Nicolas Cage and Chloe Moretz, respectively), as well as what looks to be a painted set of mug shots depicting various villains. Read more...

"Dexter" having fans in the comics community shouldn't come as a surprise to anyone, but the season finale last night was the talk of the Twitter Report follow list, with Frank Tieri and Scott Allie among those tweet-gasping at its conclusion.
Meanwhile, Tony Moore has his sights on a specific actor to play the Vulture in "Spider-Man 4," and he posted some thoughts on that casting choice. You can check out who he wants after the jump along with some artwork by Tony Millionaire, Stan Lee's vision for his own private island and Ron Marz's post-mortem analysis of the New York Giants game yesterday.
It's all in the Twitter Report for December 14, 2009. Read more...

Sure, a lot of attention's been paid to Sunnydale's favorite vampire slayer, Buffy, but she's not the only character from Joss Whedon's "Buffy-verse" to make a successful transition from television to comics. IDW Publishing's ongoing "Angel" series continues this week as a new writer begins scripting the adventures of Angel, the vampire with a soul (played by David Boreanaz in the television series), and his demon-slaying crew.
"Fables" creator Bill Willingham jumps on board as the series' regular writer with issue #28, kicking off a six-part arc titled "The Crown Prince Syndrome." The storyline promises to explore Angel's new celebrity and the problems it creates — including a distinct lack of quality brooding time.
IDW has provided Splash Page readers with an exclusive first look at "Angel" #28, featuring a story by Willingham, interior art by Brian Denham and covers by Denham, Jenny Frison and David Messina. Read more...
