Joseph GattLast month, actor and motion-capture artist Joseph Gatt caused a stir when he revealed that he had been cast in director Kenneth Branagh’s “Thor.” Now that the film is in full production, Gatt has confirmed that he will be portraying a villain within the movie.

“Marvel [is] really into secrecy and protecting their scripts and characters, so there’s not much I can say except that I’m playing a bad guy with a lot of action,” said Gatt during an interview with Screen Rant. While Gatt withheld the specifics of his part, he also hinted that his character would give Chris Hemsworth’s Thor “a lot of grief.”

Given Gatt’s physical similarities to one of Thor’s long time adversaries, popular speculation is that he will portray Skurge, the Executioner — a longtime ally of Thor’s brother Loki and the Enchantress. Read More...

Spider-ManIt looks like we were relatively spot-on with our picks for a "Spider-Man" director, as three of our five suggestions are now being rumored as top contenders to bring your friendly neighborhood webslinger back to the big screen. However, one of them — "500 Days of Summer" director Marc Webb — looks to be the favorite.

According to Deadline Hollywood, Sony's current director wishlist includes Webb, James Cameron ("Avatar"), David Fincher ("Zodiac"), and Wes Anderson ("Rushmore"). The site claims that Webb has already met with producers and studio execs about the "Spider-Man" reboot, and the plan is to get the film into production this year for a 2012 release. The long production time will allow the studio to film in 3-D.

Captain AmericaWith the predominance of “Spider-Man 4” and “Thor” news over the last few weeks, “The First Avenger: Captain America” has been relatively quiet by comparison. However, as “Captain America” gears up to begin filming in June, director Joe Johnston has indicated that the film may take Cap in unexpected directions.

“It's not going to be a Captain America that you expect,” said Johnston during an interview with Boxoffice.com. “It's something different. It is influenced by the comic book, but it goes off in a completely different direction. It's the origin story of Captain America. It's mostly period— there are modern, present-day bookends on it — but it's basically the story of how Steve Rogers becomes Captain America.”

DESCNot even two full days have elapsed since Robert Downey Jr. officially departed "Cowboys & Aliens," but the "Iron Man 2" actor might already have a replacement in the form of James Bond.

According to Variety, Daniel Craig is currently in negotiations with DreamWorks and director Jon Favreau to fill Downey's stirruped boots in "Cowboys & Aliens," the upcoming film based on the Platinum Studios graphic novel series.

Craig would play protagonist Zeke Johnson, a Western hero that must unite a group of Apache Indians and his fellow gunslingers alike against the common threat of alien invasion. Read More...

Brace yourselves, Spider-fans: We have our first official pitch for the new Peter Parker.

At last night's red carpet for the National Board of Review, "Weeds" star Hunter Parrish threw his hat into the reboot ring, telling MTV News he's got the right stuff to bring your friendly neighborhood Spider-Man to the big screen.

"I hear Spider-Man is up for grabs, so I'm going to go for that one," he said. Read More...

Ultimate Spider-ManEDITOR'S NOTE: With the "Spider-Man" movie franchise scheduled for a 2012 reboot, it seemed appropriate to focus this week's "Adapt This" feature on a Spidey story that would be a good fit for Peter Parker's revamped return to the big screen. -RM

THE STORY: "Ultimate Spider-Man" #16-21 by Brian Michael Bendis (W) & Mark Bagley (A) - Marvel Comics

WHAT IT'S ABOUT: A reality TV star based on the original Marvel Universe villain Kraven the Hunter shows up declaring that he wants Spider-Man as his next trophy. He's wrestled "50-foot crocodiles" in his native Australia, and he declares that he's going to take his show on location to New York City and bring Spidey home in a body bag. Read More...

The "Human Target" television series premieres this weekend with stars Mark Valley ("Fringe"), Jackie Earle Haley ("Watchmen") and Chi McBride ("Pushing Daisies"), and while the project is based on a DC Comics title of the same name, fans are likely to notice a few big differences between the TV series and its source material.

For example, main character Christopher Chance no longer assumes the identity of clients who are targeted for assassination, and instead creates a new identity that will put him close enough to protect them and reveal the killer. Valley explained why the change was necessary.

"To be honest with you, when I was reading the comics, I would get a little bit confused," he confessed. "It's a graphic novel and usually it's pretty explanatory, but I was getting a little confused [about] which one is Chance and which one is the real person." Read More...

By far one of my favorite characters in the DC Universe, The Spectre makes his debut in the upcoming "Justice League: Crisis On Two Earths" animated feature. Check it out:

The Spectre

The character will make his debut in the first animated short from DC's new Showcase series, which spotlights lesser-known characters from the DCU. The "Spectre" animated short will be available on the "Justice League: Crisis On Two Earths" DVD and Blu-Ray when it hits shelves February 23. Read More...

Now that Sony's "Spider-Man" movie franchise is looking for a new director, the search is on for a filmmaker who can bring Peter Parker's teenage adventures to the big screen. But as anyone who's ever tackled a high-profile reboot knows, starting over can be tough.

That's why "Star Trek" director J.J. Abrams (who we recently suggested as a potential "Spider-Man" director) seemed like the perfect person to ask for advice about how Sony should approach the task of rebooting the "Spider-Man" movie franchise.

"When I first heard they were rebooting it, I thought, 'Really?'" Abrams told MTV News at the National Board of Review red carpet. "Didn't they just do it? Then I realized, 'No I'm just old.' I thought the first one just came out." Read More...

Spider-ManFROM MTV.COM: Monday's shocking announcement that one of the decade's most successful film franchises has thrown in the towel on a fourth installment hit fans as hard as a Sandman punch to the face. Now, Raimi and Tobey and Kirsten and everyone else are going to move on to other projects, and all we can do is miss them — and, of course, look back on the better days.

Remembering back to the 2001 press conference in a wrestling ring that started it all — yep, I was there! — all the way up to Monday's sad goodbye, it somehow seems like "Spider-Man 4" was the most dramatic movie in the series, simply through its production twists and turns. And so, it is with great affection that we look back on the roller-coaster ride of the Spidey movie we'll never see.
