Thankfully, "Scott Pilgrim vs. the World" hasn't seemed to deter director Edgar Wright from his long discussed plans for an "Ant-Man" movie — in fact, the filmmaker recently met with a Marvel Comics icon to talk about the project.
Wright met up with legendary Marvel creator Stan Lee for lunch the other day, according to reports from Lee's highly entertaining Twitter account. The comic book icon revealed that he and Wright spoke about the miniature superhero and his big screen debut.
"Marvel is prepping a movie starring-- Ant Man!" declared Lee. "I had lunch with the cool, young director Edgar Wright (Shaun of the Dead) and, as you'd imagine, we had fun discussing the tiny hero."
"Ant Man is just one of the many wild treats Marvel has planned for you, such as Iron Fist, Dr. Strange, Black Panther and more, more, more," Lee added.
Rumors of an "Ant-Man" movie go back at least to 2006's Comic-Con when Wright was part of a Marvel Studios panel alongside "Iron Man" director Jon Favreau and "The Incredible Hulk" director Louis Leterrier. While Wright's film has yet to materialize, there were some reports that "Ant-Man" could become a Pixar project in light of the Disney-Marvel merger — though Pixar's John Lasseter shrugged those rumors off.
Whether or not Wright's meeting with Lee is a sign that the "Scott Pilgrim" director is back on the fast track with Hank Pym's movie debut remains to be seen. But according Wright's own comments, the meeting satisfied at least one itch for the filmmaker.
"Sometimes you shouldn't meet your heroes in case they disappoint," said Wright. "[Stan Lee] does not disappoint."
