Mattel & DC at Toy Fair 2010The wait is over, comics fans — an awesome Blue Devil action figure is on its way!

Okay, so maybe I'm the only one who's that excited about DC's blue-skinned stuntman-turned-superhero finally getting an action figure in his old-school look — but I'm willing to bet there's something for every fan to love in Mattel's upcoming line of toys based on the DC Universe. Along with the DC Universe Classic figures, Mattel also unveiled a variety of new toys from the hit animated series "Batman: The Brave and the Bold," as well as other DC characters of all shapes and sizes during this year's Toy Fair.

While we're big fans of "Brave and the Bold" around Splash Page HQ, it was the over-sized Hourman, Green Lanterns (Alan Scott, Tomar-Re, and Guy Gardner) and Obsidian figures that really impressed the heck out of us. Of course, running into superstar DC writer Geoff Johns in the showroom was a nice bonus, too... but now we're just name-dropping. Read More...

We gave you a peek at all of the upcoming "Iron Man 2" toys from Hasbro earlier today in our Toy Fair 2010 spotlight, but we weren't the only ones taking an interest in Tony Stark's latest toy technology, it seems.

Iron Man 2

"Iron Man 2" star Robert Downey Jr. dropped by the Hasbro showroom this weekend to check out the company's new line of products inspired by his alter ego's armored adventures. And from what we can tell in these images, the line has Tony Stark's approval. Read More...

Logan Lerman"Percy Jackson & The Olympians" didn't quite wield the power of the gods when it arrived in theaters this weekend and came in second at the box office to "Valentine's Day," so what does that mean for its star, Logan Lerman, and rumors that he's up for the lead role in Marc Webb's "Spider-Man"?

As regular readers are already aware, Lerman set the 'Net on fire recently when he mentioned in passing that he was in talks to play Peter Parker. Even though Lerman backed off that statement a bit in a subsequent interview with MTV News, we pondered exactly what might be at stake when Lerman makes his debut in "Percy Jackson" — and now it's time to figure out whether playing a god means he'll be playing a superhero. We're still a few months away from "Iron Man 2" hitting theaters, but you can get your fix of Tony Stark's armored alter ego a little early thanks to Hasbro's upcoming line of toys inspired by the film.

Along with a variety of figured based on the movie itself, Hasbro unveiled some other, equally cool Iron Man-themed figures and toys at this year's Toy Fair convention — including figures inspired by armor worn by Tony Stark in the comics and assorted members of Iron Man's rogues gallery. The toymaker also offered a peek at several vehicles in the toy line and wearable "Iron Man 2" gear.

Oh, and did I mention the radio-controlled walking Iron Man and "Tony Starch" Mr. Potato Head? Read More...

Iron Man 2Jon Favreau has a lot riding on Skywalker Sound today as "Iron Man 2" enters its final stage of sound mixing. As evidenced by the Twitter Report today, he seems to be on the home stretch, while Edgar Wright wants everyone to know that he is still very much hard at work on wrapping up "Scott Pilgrim vs. The World."

Elsewhere in comics, celebrated writer and Internet vulgarity baron Warren Ellis clocked in with another birthday. I doubt anyone else in comics attracts the kind of well-wishing over Twitter that he does, and I've noted a few below. Click past the jump and you'll also find some killer Galactus art by Mike Deodato, the video game Jason Aaron wants to write, and a look at "Mouse Guard" creator David Petersen coloring some Muppets.

It's all in the Twitter Report for February 16, 2010. Read More...

Ghost In The ShellMasamune Shirow’s futuristic thriller “Ghost in the Shell” appears to be one step closer to a live-action film. According to Laeta Kalogridis — an executive producer of "Avatar" and the screenwriter of "Shutter Island" — the adaptation of the cyberpunk Manga is the next movie on her docket.

When asked about her upcoming film projects, Kalogridis told Shock Till You Drop, "I've got 'Ghost in the Shell,' which is an adaptation of another manga and anime with DreamWorks and Steven (Spielberg) producing that and I'm hoping that the draft will come in pretty soon and I'm hoping he'll like it, and other than that, I'm sort of keeping myself open right now because I'm not really sure what I want to do."

"I have loved ('Ghost In The Shell') for years and years and years," added Kalogridis. "It could actually be three two-hour movies, which is what I would vote for, but it's the seminal cyberpunk text as something like 'Neuromancer.' I mean, it really just is, and there's nothing else like it." Read More...

SupermanLast April, word broke that comic scribe Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa had signed on to write an updated version of the musical "It's a Bird…It's a Plane…It's Superman" with director Kevin Moriarty at the Dallas Theater Center in Dallas, Texas. With the revived musical scheduled to open in June, Aguirre-Sacasa has started to elaborate on the changes he made to the original musical by Charles Strouse and Lee Adams — the Broadway legends behind "Bye Bye Birdie."

Aguirre-Sacasa told Comic Book Resources the story will be set in 1939, one year after Superman's first sighting in Metropolis.

"By making it a year after Superman's debut, we could cut into the story," he explained. "Enough time has passed that Lois Lane is already in love with Superman (and not interested in Clark) and Lex Luthor wants to kill Superman." Aguirre-Sacasa also indicated that the interplay between Clark and Lois would be in the style of the classic '40s film, "His Girl Friday." Read More...

The CrowDirector Stephen Norrington's upcoming relaunch of "The Crow" may finally be on the verge of getting a greenlight to begin production.

"The producer and visual effects people are crunching numbers," Norrington told Mania.com. "We've opened discussions with major cast but nothing is final yet."

Norrington also indicated that "The Crow" would probably be filmed before his supernatural World War II thriller, "The Lost Patrol." Additionally, Norrington stated that he hopes to begin filming "The Crow" during the summer and that he expects to deliver a first draft of the script later this month. Read More...

Spider-ManFollowing the smash success of “Avatar,” James Cameron is Hollywood’s new guru of greatness. It’s no surprise, then, that filmmakers looking to master the complexities of 3-D, science-fiction and state-of-the-art special effects are seeking him out for guidance as if he were a bearded man sitting atop a mountain.

Now, in a new development that should thrill fans of our friendly neighborhood webslinger, MTV News has learned the name of the latest filmmaker to meet with Cameron: "Spider-Man" director Marc Webb.

“Last [week] we met the director of [the next ‘Spider-Man’ film],” Cameron’s producing partner Jon Landau revealed to us when he stopped by the MTV studio, explaining that the “Avatar” filmmaker and Spider-Man’s new gatekeeper compared notes Wednesday evening. “[Webb] wants to do the next one in 3-D, which they’ve announced that they want to do. So, we want to try to support that as much as possible.” Read More...

"Jonah Hex" hits theaters in June, but NECA Toys and Collectibles debuted new figures and prop replicas from the upcoming film during this year's Toy Fair convention.

While we've seen "Jonah Hex" stars Josh Brolin and Megan Fox in costume at various points throughout the production, NECA's trio of collectible figures offered up one of the first peeks at John Malkovich, who plays Hex's nemesis in the film. Little is known about Malkovich's character, plantation owner Quentin Turnbull, except that he blames Hex for the death of his son and has sparred with the confederate soldier-turned-bounty hunter frequently in the DC/Vertigo comic book series.

NECA also showed off a pair of prop replicas from the film, including Turnbull's silver-handled cane and one of Jonah Hex's tomahawks. Read More...
