Although still unconfirmed, it appears that David Goyer is at least being considered as the writer for the new Superman movie, tentatively titled "The Man of Steel." And according to the initial report, long-rumored candidate Mark Millar was never even a possibility to work on a "Superman" movie.
Not one to take a punch without giving one right back, Millar took to his message board and went "on the record" to defend against the allegations against his famous "Superman" pitch, stating that both he and "Kick-Ass" director Matthew Vaughn were seriously considered by Warner Bros. over a year ago.
"I must stress that the 'inside info' on my relationship to the movie is nonsense," Millar said of the report. "I can say on the record that Vaughn had meetings with [Warner Bros.] about our ideas over a year ago." Read more...

The early word is out on "Scott Pilgrim vs. The World," director Edgar Wright's adaptation of Bryan Lee O'Malley's beloved comic book series, and the word is somewhere between "fantastic" and "awesome." Let's go with "fantawesome."
Universal held a test screening of "Scott Pilgrim" in New Jersey, yielding wildly enthusiastic reports from the fans lucky enough to attend. One Twitter user called the movie a "nerdgasm," while another remarked that it is "100% respectful to the books."
"I was lucky enough to see this awesome nerdfest of a flick known as Scott Pilgrim vs The World," wrote Tumblr user L2BT. "It was a lot of fun and Edgar Wright did an impressive job bringing the comic to the screen. Pilgrim is going to gain even more followers once this hits theatres in August. Kids are really going to geek out over this. Hard." Read more...

The path to casting "The First Avenger: Captain America" has been filled with plenty of rumors and speculation with varying degrees of fan support, but today's report on five potential "Captain America" contenders is certainly one of the most provocative of the bunch.
Currently, it's unclear whether one of these young actors will wield the shield as Steve Rogers — but at the very least, these would-be superheroes are in good company, as there has been an abundance of actors both popular and unknown connected to Captain America over the years.

While the verdict's still out on whether David Goyer is writing a new Superman movie titled "The Man of Steel," the prospect of the "Batman Begins" co-writer penning Clark Kent's return to the big screen certainly raises some big questions — especially for anyone hoping to see Superman and Batman team up down the road.
Earlier this month, a rumor hit the 'Net claiming that "Batman Begins" and "The Dark Knight" director Christopher Nolan had been tagged to shepherd a new Superman movie franchise. While DC Entertainment denied the rumor last week, today's reports would seem to indicate that the Batman pair are indeed involved in some capacity with plotting the course of the Man of Steel's future.
So, if Superman and Batman are now under the same creative team's purview, is it crazy to think those two worlds could overlap at some point? Before you get too excited for a "Justice League" movie, there are some important points to consider. Read more...

Superman's next big-screen adventure has a new writer and working title, and they should both be familiar to comic book fans. According to online reports, "Batman Begins" co-writer David Goyer will pen the screenplay for a film titled "The Man Of Steel" that will see DC's iconic hero fly back into theaters.
UPDATE: AintItCoolNews reports that Goyer is not a lock to write "Man of Steel," according to Legendary Pictures founder Thomas Tull. At press time, reps for Goyer and Warner Bros. have not responded to requests for comment.
Variety reports that Goyer's script will involve significantly more action than 2006's "Superman Returns," and will feature the hero battling Lex Luthor and Brainiac. Neither "Superman Returns" actor Brandon Routh nor director Bryan Singer are expected to return for the film. Read more...

After filling his resume with somewhat gritty character roles in recent years, Mickey Rourke may finally have the chance to play a real family man — that is, if raising a barbarian warrior in Lionsgate's upcoming "Conan" film counts.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, the "Iron Man 2" star is in negotiations to take on a new, patronly role as the father of Conan.
Rourke joins 12-year-old Leo Howard, who stars as a young Conan before the character enters adulthood as portrayed by former "Stargate Atlantis" star Jason Momoa.
The actor's on-camera fathering skills may have left something to be desired in 2008's "The Wrestler," but depending on which direction Lionsgate decides to take the character, he could be restored to a parent worth avenging. Read more...

Last week at the Los Angeles premiere of "Justice League: Crisis on Two Earths", the producers were quick to praise the film's character designs by artist Phil Bourassa. And while Bourassa's "Justice League" movie hit stores yesterday, he also provided character designs for the "Planet Hulk" animated movie which was released earlier this month. Bourassa is also the character designer for one of the upcoming Marvel Animated feature films: "Thor: Son of Asgard."
Recently, Bourassa posted several early designs from "Thor: Son of Asgard" on his Deviant Art page (via Comic Book Movie). Bourassa also provided commentary for several of the pieces: Read more...

When it comes to the “Spider-Man” movie franchise these days, it seems like there are far more questions that answers. Are all these casting rumors accurate? Will the king of 3-D, James Cameron, have any influence on how Marc Webb tackles the gig? And did Sam Raimi ever get close enough to rolling cameras that there were concrete plans for the supporting characters ?
Over the years, we’ve spoken with Anne Hathaway many times and always found her to be exactly as you’d expect: Sweet, polite and never one to speak out of school. And when it came time to speak with her last week for the upcoming release of Tim Burton's “Alice in Wonderland” re-imagining, we remembered that it was our first time talking with the actress since Raimi’s “Spider Man 4” plans fell apart. So, it seemed reasonable that Hathaway might finally be willing to reveal how truthful those rumors were about her having a role in the now-canceled film.
Hathaway gave us a statement that reminded us of that earlier fact about her: She’s sweet, polite and never one to speak out of school. Read more...

As we mentioned back in September, HBO's vampire drama "True Blood" has more connections to comics than you might think — and now you can add another one to the list. Charlaine Harris, author of the Sookie Stackhouse novels that inspire the television series, will make her comics debut this year.
"Grave Sight," the first book in Harris' series of novels about a woman named Harper Connelly who can sense the final moments of the recently deceased, will be adapted by Dynamite Entertainment into a comic book hitting shelves in 2010.
"I'm thrilled to join such great writers," said Harris in an official statement announcing the project. "I'm excited about seeing a different vision of my novels, and I've seen enough of the Dynamite Entertainment to know this will be an interesting and entertaining process." Read more...
