The online world has been buzzing with speculation ever since an alleged list of five contenders for the lead role in "The First Avenger: Captain America" hit the 'Net. While there's been no official word on whether the list is legit, we asked you to vote on your favorite from the five contenders last week — just to find out where popular opinion stands on the actors' shield-slinging potential.
Since then, two of the actors have declared they're out of the running, but according to our poll results, they were never really in the running — not when it comes to fan opinion, that is.
With 51 percent of the vote, "The Office" actor John Krasinski was named fans' favorite actor for the role (from among the rumored contenders). His tally nearly doubled that of runner-up Chace Crawford ("Gossip Girl"), who netted 26 percent of the total votes.

While many readers indicated that "None of the Above" would've been their preferred vote, an impressive turnout for the poll made it clear that each of the candidates certainly has some fans. Here's what some readers had to say in the comment section and on Twitter about their votes:
Christopher: Mike Cassidy and Scott Porter both look the part. Can't say anything about their acting though since I haven't seen them in action. I'd say John Krasinki also might look the part, with the chin and all, but I keep getting the mental image of him putting Namor's stapler in a jello mold and then awkwardly smiling at the camera. The main thing is that this is essentially Marvel's version of Batman considering the character represents something as part of their identity. That needs to be acknowledged above all else.
@JonathanLDavis: I feel like I am the only one who thinks that Scott Porter is a no brainer.
John: John Krasinski offers a familiar hometown feel to the role of Steve Rogers. We've already seen him in a day to day life as Jim, and we'll be going through the same trials and adventures seeing him and his character as they fight evil. He's a great choice for Cap!
@lonelypond: I think John Krasinski has stronger screen presence than people give him credit for; comedians often underrated
BFisch: I voted for Krasinski, because I think hes the guy you never see coming who makes a huge impact...and I think hes the better actor out of that list. However, my ultimate choice is still Sam Worthington.
Osaze: Porter and Cassidy definitely look the part. Krasiniski is too tall tho..I mean the dude is 6.3...ALL THE OTHER CONTENDERS ARE ABOUT 6.0...I Really have no clue but i'm sure marvel would make the best decision...hopefully not chase crawford..
David: Hopefully not chace crawford or john krasiniski. Neither of them look like they could take a punch. J.K. is just way too skinny, they would have to cgi muscle onto him. Be like casting Tom Hanks as Superman. Just not a fit.
