Earlier this week, word broke that Channing Tatum had joined Chris Evans, Garrett Hedlund, Wilson Bethel and Mike Vogel as finalists for the title role in director Joe Johnston's "Captain America" adaptation. However, there may be an additional actor still in contention for the role.
According to Entertainment Weekly, Sebastian Stan is also in consideration to play Steve Rogers in "The First Avenger: Captain America." Stan is perhaps best known for his roles in the TV series "Kings" and "Gossip Girl, as well as the upcoming "Hot Tub Time Machine."
However, it's worth noting that Stan is a Romanian-born actor, which has caused some speculation that he is not up for Steve Rogers, but is instead reading for another role within the film.
"Avatar" star and Australian actor Sam Worthington has repeatedly mentioned his desire to play Captain America, but he has also openly expressed doubts that he would be cast because of his nationality.
The report also indicates that "Tron Legacy" actor Hedlund is no longer in the running for the role.
Keira Knightley, Alice Eve and Emily Blunt are also reported to be in contention for the female lead, which is rumored to be either Betsy Ross — Steve Rogers' first girlfriend and later the superheroine known as Golden Girl— or French Resistance fighter Peggy Carter.
Hugo Weaving ("The Matrix") is also in talks to appear as Cap's nemesis, the Red Skull. However, his deal is not currently finalized.
