John CusackLate last year, "Hot Tub Time Machine" actor John Cusack was doing the press for his disaster thriller "2012" and mentioned a comic book movie he was interested in that sounded an awful lot like "Preacher," the celebrated DC/Vertigo series currently in development under director Sam Mendes.

The news had comic (and Cusack) fans buzzing, but alas, the pairing seemed far less likely when MTV News asked the actor about it on the "Hot Tub" red carpet this week.

"What's that?" responded Cusack when asked whether he was indeed interested in an adaptation of the "Preacher" comic book series. Read More...

Iron ManMarvel Comics has revealed the latest set of variant covers for their "Iron Man By Design" project, which has a multitude of artists interpreting the character through different genres and styles.

The covers will appear on a long list of Marvel Comics issues hitting shelves in April — even those that don't feature an appearance by Tony Stark's alter ego. This time around, we get a peek at a medieval Iron Man, a steampunk Iron Man, and what looks to be a Western-themed vampire-killing Iron Man, among others.

My favorite? The creepy, stitched-up Iron Man. It's the scariest version of the character since that shot of a red-eyed Tony Stark sweating alcohol in "Demon in a Bottle." Read More...

Earlier this week, "The Green Hornet" director Michel Gondry described the long-awaited first trailer for the film that he expects to be released in the next few months. And while that's all well and good, there are a few more elements of the film fans are eagerly anticipating news about — namely, those mysterious action sequences he hinted at a year ago.

"I tried to be very precise," he told MTV News during the South By Southwest Film Festival. "I tried to redefine fights in my own style." Read More...

Black HoleThe 2010 Joe Shuster Awards, basically the Canadian Oscars of comics, announced their nominees for the year, and bi-continental webcomicker Rene Engström showed up on the list alongside Francis Manapul and some others who didn't tweet about it.

If comic book movies are your thing, Rick Remender tweeted a link to a short film that may have passed you by -- an adaptation of Charles Burns' "Black Hole," directed by Rupert Sanders. Check it out if you aren't at work, and read some reactions to musician Alex Chilton's death after the jump.

I'm @brianwarmoth, and this is the Twitter Report for March 18th, 2010. Read More...

Heath Ledger's portrayal of the The Joker in "The Dark Knight" won no small amount of praise from fans and critics alike, but what many people don't know is that he wasn't the only actor to be considered for the role.

When MTV News spoke with Oscar-winning actor Adrien Brody during the South By Southwest Film Festival, he confirmed a rumor that he'd been up for the role of Batman's nemesis at one point, and explained the appeal comic book movies have for him.

"I did," said Brody when asked if he'd pursued the role of Gotham's criminal clown. "I met Chris on that." Read More...

"Spawn" creator Todd McFarlane has made no secret of his desire to bring his demonic creation back to the big screen in the form of a low-budget independent film. Given McFarlane's desire to keep the movie tight and contained, it's unlikely he'll look to actors with particularly high pay grades — but that's not to say he can't cast an interesting performer in the central role of Al Simmons.

In the past, McFarlane has talked about keeping Spawn as "a living shadow" without his trademark regalia. If that's the case, then it's important to find an actor who can embody the voice of Simmons more than the physicality. On the other hand, if McFarlane wants to bring Al into the light, he'll want to find someone with an intimidating physique, too.

Depending on the choices McFarlane makes with "Spawn," we think any of these five actors could be the perfect fit for the role of Al Simmons in the character's cinematic comeback. Read More...

Sebastian StanEarlier this week, word broke that Channing Tatum had joined Chris Evans, Garrett Hedlund, Wilson Bethel and Mike Vogel as finalists for the title role in director Joe Johnston's "Captain America" adaptation. However, there may be an additional actor still in contention for the role.

According to Entertainment Weekly, Sebastian Stan is also in consideration to play Steve Rogers in "The First Avenger: Captain America." Stan is perhaps best known for his roles in the TV series "Kings" and "Gossip Girl, as well as the upcoming "Hot Tub Time Machine."

However, it's worth noting that Stan is a Romanian-born actor, which has caused some speculation that he is not up for Steve Rogers, but is instead reading for another role within the film. Read More...

Bryan SingerBack in December, Bryan Singer announced that he would return to the "X-Men" film franchise and direct "X-Men: First Class"— which takes its title from an "X-Men" comic series by Jeff Parker and Roger Cruz that follows the early days of the original X-Men. And while the film will also chronicle the early days of Xavier's school for mutants, Singer's focus is clearly on the relationship between Professor Xavier and Magneto.

"Just doing younger mutants is not enough," said Singer during an interview with The Los Angeles Times. The story needs to be more than that. I love the relationship between Magneto and Xavier, these two men who have diametrically opposite points of view but still manage to be friends — to a point. They are the ultimate frenemies."

The report also confirms that younger versions of Cyclops, Jean Grey and Beast will appear within the film, but Singer specifically avoided answering whether Hugh Jackman would make a cameo appearance as Wolverine. However, Singer did indicate that Jackman would like him to direct one of his upcoming films (which the report speculates is "Wolverine 2"). Read More...

The RiddlerBefore you read the following new item, there are a few things you should know: Hans Zimmer is not directing the next “Batman” film; Hans Zimmer has little to no input on who will be chosen as the villain in the next “Batman” film. But in his mind, there’s no doubt who’d be the best baddie: The Riddler.

“For me, I’d have an enormous amount of fun with The Riddler,” enthused the eight-time Oscar nominee (onetime winner for "The Lion King"), who composed the “Batman Begins” and “The Dark Knight” scores. “There is such a wealth of fun to be had with a character like that.”

In Zimmer’s mind, Edward Nigma is the Batman villain most ripe with potential, in both musical score possibilities and elsewhere. Portrayed by Frank Gorshin and John Astin in the '60s TV series and Jim Carrey in “Batman Forever,” the riddle-obsessed, stick-thin madman doesn’t possess any super powers — which would seem to make him an ideal fit for Chris Nolan’s realistic take on Gotham City. Existence 2.0Last year, writer Nick Spencer and illustrator Ronald Salas teamed up for a three issue miniseries called "Existence 2.0." The series was published by Image Comics and follows Sylvester Baladine, a self-absorbed physicist who finds his mind trapped in the body of the hitman who killed him. While a sequel miniseries — "Existence 3.0." — is currently being released into comic stores, the film rights have already been picked up by Paramount.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Miles Millar and Alfred Gough are attached to produce and adapt "Existence 2.0."

Millar and Goth are perhaps best known for developing and producing "Smallville" for the series' first seven seasons. Additionally, Millar and Gough have collaborated on "Spider-Man 2", "Shanghai Knights", "The Mummy: Tomb of The Dragon Emperor" and the "Aquaman" TV pilot. Read More...
