When the news broke this morning that actress Rose McGowan had joined the cast of Marcus Nispel's upcoming "Conan" movie as "an evil half-human/half-witch," one question seemed to be on the minds of fans: What about "Red Sonja"?

Originally tagged to play the female barbarian back in 2008, McGowan reported in August 2009 that "Red Sonja" had been delayed. The character was rumored to make a cameo in "Conan," since she made her first appearance in "Conan the Barbarian" comics, but today's casting news certainly makes such a cameo difficult — if not altogether impossible.

Fortunately, MTV News checked in with "Red Sonja" producer Robert Rodriguez during the recent South By Southwest Film Festival to find out where the project is at these days. Read More...

Spider-Man

The name appeared on the May cover for GamePro, so details may be locked up in the information vault until that hits stands, but just what direction Activision and/or Marvel decide to take the new game in will be interesting to watch, particularly if Spidey's treatment offers any clues about how Marc Webb's film franchise reboot will look.

ShamrockEDITOR'S NOTE: The following guest column was provided by comic book historian Alan Kistler, who never ceases to amaze us with his knowledge of all things comics. In order to determine the victor in in his "Last Man Standing" scenario, he painstakingly compared each combatant's powers, how they would interact with other combatants' powers, and each character's equipment, history and tendencies. Basically, he spent a lot more time thinking about this than you will spend reading it — so we hope you enjoy it!

The drinks have been served. The music is on. But this St. Patrick’s Day is different. This day, we find out which Irish superhero (or superhero of Irish heritage) will be the last man standing!

Molly Fitzgerald (a.k.a. Shamrock) steps into the battlefield. Born in Dunshaughlin, Molly is able to call on the spirits of innocent people who died in war and terrorist attacks. With their help, she is able to alter probability in her favor and cause bad luck for her enemies. As soon as she arrives, Shamrock is attacked by Daredevil (a.k.a. Matt Murdock), the Irish-Catholic vigilante of Hell’s Kitchen who's blind but compensates with the rest of his superhuman senses. Read More...

Green LanternIrish or not, comics tweeters sounded off about St. Patrick's Day today. Some love it. Some, like Warren Ellis, want it to leave them alone — and others downright loathe the holiday. And while we're on the subject of green, Geoff Johns got a look at Green Lantern's ring for the movie going into production right now.

Find out what he thought below, along with what Gail Simone wants to write if Marvel and DC ever do an Amalgam Comics line again, who's been working on a WWE comic and who the "Penny Arcade" guys threw a birthday party for.

It's all in the Twitter Report for March 17th, 2010. Read More...

Zenescope Entertainment revealed this week that they've obtained the comic book rights for "Charmed," a supernatural-themed TV series that aired on the WB Network for eight seasons. Created in 1998 by Constance M. Zenescope's "Charmed" comic book series will pick up with an original story that takes place after the series' eighth season. Paul Ruditis and Raven Gregory ("The Gift") are co-writing the title with artist Dave Hoover ("Captain America"). Dead@17Back in 2005, Josh Howard debuted his first creator-owned book "Dead@17" through Viper Comics. Over the course of six miniseries, Howard has chronicled the tale of his heroine Nara Kilday, a murdered teenager who is resurrected to prevent the pending Apocalypse. Now published through Image Comics, the penultimate series in the "Dead@17" saga — "Dead@17: The Witch Queen" — arrives in comic stores later this week.

And while Nara's comic book journey is nearing its end, Howard has indicated that the long-awaited "Dead@17" film adaptation has signed director Dennis Iliadis ("Last House on The Left").

"Last I heard, they had attached Dennis Iliadis as a director," Howard revealed to MTV News. "And we've also set up some meetings at some studios that are interested in it. Right now, meetings are taking place with potential writers."

Howard also confirmed that Michael Dougherty ("Superman Returns") will not write the "Dead@17" movie, although whether Vanessa Hudgens will star in it is still currently unknown. Howard also offered MTV News a preview of his latest miniseries, "Dead@17: The Witch Queen." Read More...

St. Patrick's Day - Comic Book LeprechaunsBy Sujay Kumar

St. Patrick's Day is here and you don't have to be Irish (or guzzling green beer) to enjoy a good comic book. Sure the Green Lantern, Green Arrow, and The Hulk give readers a taste of green, but it wouldn't be this holiday without the true heroes: leprechauns.

While few in the comics world are of true leprechaun persuasion (we don't recommend anyone follow the Green Goblin to the end of a rainbow), there's no shortage of characters that are short, unattractive, and full of enough surprises that they could be leprechauns.

So, sit back, grab a four-leaf clover and enjoy this list of our favorite closet leprechauns this St. Patrick's Day. Read More...
