Bryan SingerAttention X-Fans: It looks like Bryan Singer won't be making a triumphant return to the director's chair for "X-Men: First Class" after all.

According to Deadline.com, the director of "X-Men" and "X2: X-Men United" will move from director to producer on the upcoming 20th Century Fox film, which takes the X-Men universe back to the early days of Professor Charles Xavier's School for Gifted Youngsters. The report indicates that the move was made in order to put the film on the fast track, since Singer is currently committed to direct Warner Bros.' "Jack the Giant Killer" in the near future.

That's not the only silver lining for fans of the X-Men movie universe Singer helped create, as the report also mentions that the film is being envisioned as the first part of a trilogy, with a potential 2011 release. Read More...

The first "Scott Pilgrim Vs. The World" trailer arrived online yesterday, and from the reaction thus far, it appears that the comics world will never be the same. Some love it, some are skeptical of it, but most agree that director Edgar Wright's adaptation of Bryan Lee O'Malley's comic book series is like nothing we've seen before — much like the original series itself.

Now, Universal Studios has released a new set of images from the film to go along with the trailer. Read More...

MC FrontalotWhen I spoke to "Penny Arcade" creators Jerry Holkins and Mike Krahulik last month, the conversation covered a lot of ground — including some talk of the "Nerdcore Rising" documentary that followed musician MC Frontalot on his first national tour. That tour culminated with a show at Penny Arcade Expo, the massive gaming convention organized by the webcomic duo.

Well, the webcomic's "rapper laureate" is at it again this year, bringing nerdcore to the masses at PAX East, which kicked off today in Boston and runs throughout the weekend.

The comics- and gaming-friendly rapper hits the stage tonight (Friday, March 26) with fellow geek-friendly musicians The Protomen, Anamanaguchi and Metroid Metal during the show's 8:30 PM EST concert. MTV Multiplayer editor Russ Frushtick is already on the show floor (so keep an eye out for new and updates), but I managed to get a preview of tonight's performance from the man himself, MC Frontalot. With director Matthew Vaughn's "Kick-Ass" set to bow in theaters in less than a month, it's easy to forget that the filmmaker once had his name connected to a very different comic book property — the "Superman" franchise.

Mark Millar recently denied rumors that his "Superman" pitch with Vaughn never received much traction at Warner Bros.. When MTV News asked Vaughn for his take on the Man of Steel, however, he was quick to indicate that rumors of his Superman film with Millar getting off the ground might have been a bit exaggerated over time.

"That sort of all got blown out of proportion. I had a very brief chat with them and that's all it was. From a 30-second chat, it's become this huge thing," Vaughn told MTV. "It hadn't gone [as far as casting], we just had an idea for a story for Superman — that was it." Read More...

Blu MankumaClark Kent and Lois Lane could be getting a new boss on "Smallville."

Kryptonsite is reporting that Blu Mankuma will appear in an episode later this year as Franklin Stern — the owner and publisher of the Daily Planet in the DC Universe. Stern was created by Louise Simonson and Jon Bogdanove in 1993 during the "Superman: The Man of Steel" series.

James Earl Jones portrayed Stern on a single episode of "Lois & Clark: The New Adventures of Superman" during the first season of that show. Given the history of the character — and the upcoming return of Michael McKean as Perry White — it seems likely that Stern will assume ownership of the paper from Tess Mercer (Cassidy Freeman). We're still waiting for our first look at "Thor" star Chris Hemsworth in costume as Marvel's god of thunder, so when we snagged the actor on the red carpet for "The Last Song" (featuring his brother, Liam Hemsworth), we managed to coax a few details out of him about the look he'll be sporting for the role.

Along with growing his beard out and donning a blond wig, the actor said a big part of his prep for the role involved lessons on the correct pronunciation of Thor's mighty hammer, Mjolnir.

"It's a pretty impressive costume, and I think anyone who put it on would look pretty cool," Hemsworth told MTV News. Read More...

Brian K. VaughnFollowing his departure from "Lost" last summer and with "Ex Machina" slated to wrap up soon, speculation about Brian K. Vaughn's next project has been pure conjecture — until now.

Production Weekly is reporting that Vaughn's representatives "are out this week with his post-apocalyptic heist spec 'The Vault,' set at the real-world Doomsday Vault in the Arctic."

The film's plot is described as "'Ocean’s 11' meets '2012'/'Children of Men'" by SlashFilm, and follows a master thief's attempt to "break into the extremist-controlled Doomsday Vault to steal the one seed that could prevent the extinction of the human race." Read More...
