Chris EvansWhen the news first broke last week that Chris Evans will play Captain America in the upcoming Marvel Studios feature "The First Avenger: Captain America," it's safe to say that reader response was... mixed. Still, the actor seemed to receive a warmer reception than previous "leading candidate" John Krasinski, who inspired a pretty polarizing reaction from readers.

With all that in mind, it only seemed right to poll readers and find out exactly how you're feeling about the latest news involving Steve Rogers, the man who will rally Iron Man, Thor and the rest of The Avengers in their 2012 team-up. And with thousands of votes cast and some well though-out comments, it looks like you had a lot to say!

As expected, opinion of Evans as the new Cap turned out favorable, but many readers took a "wait and see" approach with the casting — expressing equal parts optimism and uncertainty about the former Johnny Storm becoming the new Steve Rogers. Read More...

The BoysScreenwriters Matt Manfredi and Phil Hay re-imagined the tale of a noble warrior challenging the gods for "Clash of the Titans," but the duo is taking on a decidedly different type of story with the adaptation of Garth Ennis and Darick Robertson's no-holds-barred comic book series "The Boys."

Now an ongoing series published by Dynamite Entertainment, "The Boys" caused no small amount of controversy when it first launched in 2006 due to its graphic content — eventually prompting a change in publishers. However, the move didn't cause Robertson and Ennis to back down in the slightest with their over-the-top tale about a black ops unit tasked with policing superheroes by any means necessary. The series was optioned in February 2008 for adaptation as a live-action movie, and the "Titans" pair were attached to the project later that same year.

MTV News caught up with Manfredi and Hay to chat about their script for "The Boys" and the pair shared their thoughts on the process of adapting the adult-oriented comic and some of the key scenes in the latest draft of the screenplay. Read More...

The Avengers (Ultimates)While there are still a few roles that need to be cast, yesterday's report that actor Chris Evans will play Captain America provides one of the final pieces in a long-developing puzzle that, when completed, will bring together a host of Marvel Studios superheroes for "The Avengers."

Currently scheduled to hit theaters in May 2012, "The Avengers" will team Captain America, Iron Man, Thor and Nick Fury against an unknown enemy (possibly The Hulk) that the heroes must unite to defeat. And though we're still not sure what form that enemy will take, Evans' casting as soldier-turned-superhero Steve Rogers now gives us a pretty good idea how Earth's Mightiest Heroes will look when they arrive on the big screen.

From familiar faces in new roles to unknown actors playing some of the world's most iconic characters, it's time to get to know your Avengers, folks. Read More...

With reports circulating that Bryan Singer is no longer a lock to direct "X-Men: First Class," it's well worth wondering who could replace him.

The possibility of Singer's departure due to other cinematic commitments comes with a silver lining, as Fox has reportedly met with two big-name replacement directors that are well-loved and recognizable amongst comic book and geek genre fans. Hopefully, that also means the directors being approached are actually right for the job — that they have some connection to the "X-Men" material or the core premise of powerful youths discovering how to effectively use their abilities for the first time.

If Singer really is leaving the franchise, these five directors could provide a unique take on the youthful "X-Men" spinoff. Read More...

Michael RosenbaumFollowing the news that "Smallville" has been picked up for its tenth season and recent hints in "Absolute Justice" that Lex Luthor survived his apparent death in Season 8, speculation has mounted that Michael Rosenbaum would return to the series and reprise his role as Clark Kent's greatest nemesis.

A recent post on Rosenbaum's Twitter account regarding "good news coming soon" was taken by several fans as potential confirmation that Rosenbaum would come back to "Smallville" during the tenth season. However, a later post from Rosenbaum (caught by Kryptonsite) emphatically denied the rumors.

"Sorry," wrote Rosenbaum. "It's not 'Smallville' related. I've already stated that I'm not returning. I'd never lead you guys on like that. I appreciate your support." Read More...

300Back in 2007, Zack Snyder's adaptation of Frank Miller's "300" solidified his status as a feature film director to be reckoned with. And while Snyder has indicated his interest in returning for a potential sequel, the original "300" may return to theaters in 3D.

During an interview with Coming Soon, Snyder revealed that Warner Brothers' conversion of "300" into 3D helped convince him to use the 3D process on his next project, an animated feature called "Legend of the Guardians: The Owls of Ga'Hoole." Read More...

Big Daddy - Kick-Ass - Nicolas CageIn "Kick-Ass," Chloe Moretz's 11-year-old Hit Girl is a knife-throwing, sword-wielding, bloody killer of bad guys. At one point her dad (Nicolas Cage) shoots her in the chest, and only after the pre-teen shakes off the shooting with a smile does the audience realize she's been wearing a bulletproof vest.

These are boundary-pushing scenes, no doubt, even for an R-rated film, and in an interview with MTV News, Cage admitted he was originally unsure where filmmakers should draw the line.

"There were a lot of feelings about [the violence]," he said of Moretz's character. "I was concerned. I knew it was going to be something that was uncomfortable for me as an actor." Read More...

Chris EvansWhile everything is still far from official and awaiting studio confirmation, a new report indicates that actor Chris Evans has accepted the role of soldier-turned-superhero Steve Rogers in the upcoming Marvel Studios film "The First Avenger: Captain America."

[UPDATE: Variety is now indicating that the deal is official, though Marvel Studios and Evans' reps have not confirmed.]

According to The Hollywood Reporter, negotiations have moved quickly since the offer was first made to Evans last week. Neither Marvel Studios nor the actor's representatives have confirmed the report at press time.

If Evans indeed becomes the face of Captain America, it will be the fourth live-action movie based on a comic book series in which he's starred.
