"Incredible Hulk" director Louis Leterrier recently revealed that he's on the short list of potential directors for "The Avengers," Marvel Studios' upcoming team-up extravaganza featuring Iron Man, Captain America, Thor, Hulk and various other characters from the studio's movie universe.

When MTV News caught up Leterrier during the junket for "Clash of the Titans," his remake of the 1981 classic, we asked him how he'd approach the film if given the chance.

"It all starts with the ensemble... the cast," said Leterrier. "It's all about the cast. It's all about the characters. You have to find the way to enter the movie through the cast." Read More...

Bryan SingerBryan Singer went on the record this month with his "ultimate frenemies" pitch for "X-Men: First Class," but the "X-Men 2" and "Superman Returns" director may have some obstacles ahead before he gets to make that vision a reality. In fact, a new rumor posits that Singer may not get to head "First Class" at all, and 20th Century Fox is actively talking to other directors.

According to an anonymously sourced report over at HitFix.com, Fox met with two other big-name directors last week. Those new candidates reportedly come with recognizable credentials among comic book and geek movie watchers. Read More...

Now that filming for "Green Lantern" has kicked off, it's only a matter of time before we get our first peek at Ryan Reynolds as Hal Jordan, the ring-wielding protector of Sector 2814.

While we couldn't pry any details about the visual elements of Jordan's big-screen debut from from the film's co-writer and producer, Greg Berlanti, we did get an update of sorts on the production — and some thoughts on why Reynolds was the right man to play the pilot-turned-superhero.

"They just started production on Monday," said Berlanti during last week's ShoWest Film Festival. "I grew up reading the comic books, so to be a part of it in any way has been a real dream come true. It's like being a kid in a candy store — seeing the ring, seeing the plan for what Oa is going to look like, and seeing someone like Ryan Reynolds bring it to life has been pretty amazing." Iron Man 2A new image of the Mark VI armor from "Iron Man 2" adorns the cover of this month's issue of "Total Film" magazine.

While it's not much different from previous images we've seen of the armor (identified by the triangle-shaped arc reactor in the chest), the image does offer a nice close-up of the suit's upper-body design. The issue is on sale now.

The Mark VI armor was one of several on display in the latest "Iron Man 2" trailer, which also featured the Mark V briefcase armor and some nice shots of War Machine. Read More...

God of War 3The new health care bill that passed in the U.S. House of Representatives last night stirred up at at least three distinct reactions among comics tweeters. Some came out in support, some disagreed, and Brian Michael Bendis compared the debate to his Marvel creative summits.

Elsewhere, Jhonen Vasquez targeted his tweet rage toward "God of War 3," which has been talking at him too much. Cut-scene haters of the world will understand his pain. Find out whether you agree with all of these guys after the jump, along with who saw a private Reverend Run performance and what a couple of mixers from "Iron Man 2" look like in today's sample of comics community tweets.

Last week, "Green Hornet" director Michel Gondry described his approach toward the fight scenes in his upcoming film starring Seth Rogen as the classic pulp hero. While modern audiences might not be as familiar with the character, Gondry says co-writers Rogen and Evan Goldberg still kept an eye toward honoring the character's roots in 1940s radio and '60s television.

However, the "Eternal Sunshine" director confirmed to MTV News that Van Williams, the man who played the hero alongside Bruce Lee in the original TV series, won't be making a cameo as originally rumored.

"There is the legacy of Bruce Lee that is very heavy to carry," said Gondry. "Seth has the right tone. Evan, his partner, really included a lot of elements from the TV show and from the stories that existed, so we're not so far off." Read More...

Green LanternLast year, Warner Brothers Animation released "Green Lantern: First Flight" — an animated retelling of Hal Jordan's first days as a Green Lantern — to a favorable reception that helped cement Green Lantern's status as one of the top DC superheroes in advance of the upcoming live-action film starring Ryan Reynolds. However, there may be another "Green Lantern' animated film just in time to coincide with the new movie next year.

According to Comics Continuum, Warner Brothers Animation is making another "Green Lantern" direct-to-DVD animated film that will center around the origins of the Green Lantern Corps, along with the very first ring wielders. Given the suggested time frame of the story, popular Green Lanterns like Jordan, John Stewart, Guy Gardner and Kyle Rayner may not appear at all — though it should be noted that this rumor has not been confirmed by Warner Bros.

Earlier this month, comic scribe Geoff Johns hinted at the possibility of a "Green Lantern" animated series. However, the potential animated movie appears to be a different project entirely. Read More...

BleachTite Kubo's "Bleach" is reportedly being picked up by Warner Brothers for a live-action adaptation.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, "Get Smart" director Peter Segal and his Callahan Filmworks partner Michael Ewing are in talks to produce "Bleach" in conjunction with Viz Media.

While the report notes that Segal is attempting to broaden his portfolio of films by "taking on darker, more action-oriented material", it also specifically states that Segal will not direct the film. Read More...

The AvengersEarlier this year, "Incredible Hulk" director Louis Leterrier reiterated his desire to bring "The Avengers" to the big screen. And now a report indicates that Leterrier is indeed in the running to direct Earth's Mightiest Heroes.

"I am on the shortlist, but I'm at the bottom of the shortlist, I'm sure," Leterrier told Ain't It Cool News. "I don't know who the other guys are, but I have a great relationship with [Marvel], and I've been very vocal to them and everyone else that I am the one to direct it."

"I loved my time at Marvel," he said. "I loved those guys. They're fantastic. [Marvel Studios President] Kevin [Feige] is such a passionate boss; he gets his hands dirty. It's a universe I want to keep exploring. I was frustrated with ['Incredible Hulk']. It was like, 'That's it? Only one superhero? Can I do more???' We'll see. Time will tell." Read More...
