Ryan Reynolds isn't done collecting comic book movie roles, as he's now putting the upcoming "R.I.P.D." on his to-do list.
In an interview with Collider, producer Neal Moritz revealed that Reynolds will headline "R.I.P.D.," based on the Dark Horse comic book of the same name. Reynolds will star as a recently deceased police officer who investigates his own death, all with the help of the Rest in Peace Department and a gunslinger that's been dead for hundreds of years.
The screenplay was written by Matt Manfredi and Phil Hay, who are also working on the script for "The Boys."
According to Moritz, "R.I.P.D." is one of Reynolds' current "favorite projects" and is currently scheduled to begin production in January of next year, once the actor has finished work on "Green Lantern" and the R-rated comedy "Change-Up" alongside Jason Bateman.
While Reynolds has been cast in the leading role, Moritz said that he's still in the process of casting another actor to star opposite the erstwhile Hal Jordan.
"He'll be teamed with somebody," said Moritz. "It's a fantastic relationship between a cop who's recently died who would do anything to get back to his wife. And a gunslinger who died hundreds of years ago who has seen it all and is jaded by it all and it's the two of these guys together and it's the relationship between these two guys that is absolutely fantastic."
Despite the grim tone, Moritz clarified that "R.I.P.D." would shoot for a PG-13 rating.
By joining "R.I.P.D.," Reynolds now has four comic book movie roles to his name. In addition to the currently shooting "Green Lantern" and the upcoming "Deadpool," he also held a leading role in "Blade Trinity" opposite Wesley Snipes and Jessica Biel.
