Last month, word broke that Rose McGowan had joined the cast of director Marcus Nispel's "Conan" reboot as "an evil half-human/half-witch" opposite Jason Momoa's title character. The announcement came as surprise, since McGowan had also been attached to star in an adaptation of Robert E. Howard's "Red Sonja" for nearly two years.
[UPDATE: Moviefone reports that a publicist for Fox has denied the rumor.]
According to a report on Pajiba, Megan Fox is rumored to be replacing McGowan as the lead in "Red Sonja." The report also claims that the previous incarnation of the movie has been scrapped and that director Douglas Aarniokoski has also left the project. However, the rumor has yet to be verified at press time.
Howard's "Red Sonja" was re-imagined as a contemporary of Conan's during the '70s by Roy Thomas and Barry Windsor-Smith. If the "Red Sonja" movie follows the established origin for the character — a young girl is brutalized during the murder of her family and becomes a fierce warrior to seek her revenge — then Fox could potentially be better suited to play the younger Sonja than McGowan.
