X-Files investigators Fox Mulder and Dana Scully will collide with a brand new threat this July, thanks to a new series announced at this weekend's C2E2 convention in Chicago.
Written by "30 Days of Night" co-creator Steve Niles and Adam Jones, guitarist for the band Tool, the six-issue series will send FBI Agents Mulder and Scully to Alaska just in time for the long season of darkness to take over the region. While investigating a strange murder, the pair discover (as usual) that all is not what it seems in the case.
Veteran artist Tom Mandrake ("The Spectre") will provide interior art for the series, which pairs DC's Wildstorm imprint with "30 Days" publishers IDW Publishing. Wildstorm has provided Splash Page readers with the first, exclusive look at the standard cover to the series, created by Andrea Sorrentino. Variant covers by Tom Mandrake and Sam Kieth ("The Maxx") will also be available. Read more...

Hellboy creator Mike Mignola has made a name for himself in and around the comics world on a variety of projects, but it's his horned, cigar-chomping demon with a heart of gold that's made him one of the most celebrated creators in the biz. After shepherding his creation to the live-action world alongside director Guillermo del Toro, Mignola is concentrating his efforts on Hellboy's adventures in print these days — though he's hoping to see a third film in del Toro's "Hellboy" movie universe just as much as anyone.
During this weekend's C2E2 convention in Chicago, Mignola sat down with MTV News for a long discussion of all things Hellboy, and revealed how one of the fan-favorite characters of Hellboy's universe almost made his big-screen debut in "Hellboy II: The Golden Army." Read more...

Episode Title: "The Eleventh Hour"
Written By: Steven Moffat
Story: Recently regenerated, the 11th Doctor finds himself with little time to acclimate to his new body as the Earth is threatened by an alien menace. The TARDIS is wrecked, his sonic screwdriver is busted, and he only has 20 minutes to save the world. It's a race against time with new companion Amy Pond!
The Who, What and How: Matt Smith hits the ground running as the new face of "Doctor Who," and manages to offer both an individually impressive performance and a unique spin on The Doctor that goes far in making the role his own. He has big shoes to fill in the wake of former star David Tennant's departure, but Smith does an admirable job of proving to fans that he's not only a worthy successor, but a damn fine actor who can deliver on both the nutty and deadly serious moments of "Doctor Who" tales. By far one of the most notable moments in the "Iron Man 2" trailer that arrived in March was the debut of Tony Stark's briefcase armor, a longtime element of the hero's history and a valuable tool in his arsenal of high-tech armor.
Veteran "Iron Man" artist Bob Layton, who along with writer David Michelinie was responsible for some of the character's best-loved tales and landmark moments (the celebrated "Demon in a Bottle" storyline and the introduction of characters Jim "Rhodey" Rhodes and Justin Hammer, for example), told MTV News he was just as surprised as anyone when he saw the briefcase armor debut — except he saw it almost half a year ago and had to keep it a secret until now.
Speaking with me during this weekend's C2E2 convention in Chicago, Layton recalled his visit to the set of "Iron Man 2" last summer, which included a surprise introduction to the new armor, which just so happens to be colored in the familiar "Silver Centurion" red-and-silver pallet he used throughout a significant portion of his run on the comic. The Shadow knows what lurks in the hearts of men, but what does "The Shadow" producer Michael Uslan know about plans for a new film to feature the pulp hero?
Last month, rumors hit the 'Net that an upcoming "Shadow" film co-produced by Uslan and Sam Raimi (a well-known fan of the character) was being shopped around Hollywood to various studios. While most reports agreed that there was some uncertainty where the project would land, other reports indicated that former "Spider-Man" director Raimi (whose 1990 film "Darkman" was actually his take on The Shadow sans rights to the character) might not direct, and instead hand the reins over to "30 Days of Night" and "Twilight: Eclipse" director David Slade.
During this weekend's C2E2 convention in Chicago, I put the question to Uslan for some clarification on the status of "The Shadow." Read more...

"Doctor Who" kicks off a new season tonight with a new set of stars, so when actors Matt Smith and Karen Gillan dropped by Splash Page HQ, I made sure to get some thoughts from them on where their adventures will lead (and who they'll run into) in the coming episodes.
From weeping angels and vampires to an encounter with the reptilian Silurians, the new season promises to offer quite a bit for new and longtime "Who" fans to get excited about. Of course, you don't need to hear this from me — you can see for yourself what the duo had to say in this video:
"We meet Amy [Pond] in a really, really interesting way that kind of determines their relationship for the first part of the series, so that's a very big thing," said Gillan of the season premiere, which airs tonight (April 17) on BBC America at 9 PM EST. Read more...

We're only weeks away from "Iron Man 2" hitting theaters, but fans can get up close and personal with some of the armor, outfits and weapons that made the first film such a hit during this weekend's C2E2 convention in Chicago.
Hollywood auction site Propworx is kicking off a massive auction of props from Jon Favreau's 2008 blockbuster as the grand finale of the weekend's show, but CEO Alec Peters gave Splash Page a guided tour of some of the highlights.
Along with a pair of helmets (Mark I and Mark III) and the humongous upper torso of ol' shellhead's nemesis, Iron Monger, the auction will also include Pepper Potts' gala dress worn by Gwyneth Paltrow, the Hugh Hefner robe worn by Stan Lee, and a host of other cool items big and small. Heck, they even have a light-up arc reactor. Read more...

Beyond "Kick-Ass" and "Wanted," Mark Millar has several other creator-owned works that could become major motion pictures, such as "Nemesis" and "American Jesus." But how cool would it be to see some of Millar's work-for-hire comics on the big screen — like "Old Man Logan," for instance?
Set several decades in the future, "Old Man Logan" depicts a worn out version of the hero formerly known as Wolverine. Logan hasn't popped his claws since a villainous uprising cleared the world of his superhero allies, but a surprise visit from his old pal Clint Barton — the blind archer more commonly referred to as Hawkeye — galvanizes the former X-Man into embarking on a road trip across a ravished and hero-free America.
As the rights to the necessary properties are currently held by a multitude of different movie studios, it would take a considerable amount of effort to actually create an "Old Man Logan" movie. But if the right deals were made to turn Millar and Steve McNiven's celebrated "Wolverine" run into a theatrical reality, here are some of the actors I'd cast for the film adaptation. Read more...

Just in case you needed a reason to be jealous of Jon Favreau this week, he's already seen "Iron Man 2" in IMAX and Olivia Wilde dressed up for "Cowboys and Aliens." I just wanted to throw that out there.
Elsewhere, jealousy was distinctly not the emotion present in Rob Liefeld's response to Roger Ebert's unenthusiastic review of "Kick-Ass." Cast and crew of "Kick-Ass" be aware: Rob Liefeld has your backs, and he loves your film! Woe to those who do not. Check out what he said, as well as what Jim Lee's been drawing, and what Bryan Lee O'Malley's new Scott Pilgrim shirt looks like after the jump.
It's all in the Twitter Report for April 16th, 2010. Read more...

It should come as no surprise to anyone who's read "Kick-Ass" that, well... there's a lot of ass-kicking going on in director Matthew Vaughn's adaptation of the hit comic book series by John Romita Jr. and Mark Millar.
Still, the early hype for the film has generated some controversy around the movie world, with some wondering whether the violence in the film is simply too much — especially given that much of the carnage is caused by a 12-year-old girl. Chloe Moretz, who's since reached the ripe old age of 13, plays the aforementioned pre-teen assassin Hit-Girl.
When MTV News caught up with the stars of "Kick-Ass" during this week's L.A. premiere, we asked them about the violence and the controversy surrounding the film.
"First of all, it's less [violent] than it was in the comic," Romita told MTV News. "The comic was more intense. But I think it's got a purpose — to show what this little girl and what the father are." Read more...
